Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year!!
mc2mc2: yeah I think I'm gonna give up on that painting haha
sketcheth: here's some stuff...not as much as I promised to update sorry
Max Challie: sorry this update turned out to be much later than i said
a la bapsi: Thom Yorke's the lead singer of Radiohead, that song is from his only single album called The Eraser...I would say check out both the Eraser and Radiohead albums (they're all pretty different in style though Ok Computer and Kid A are probably my favourites)
A tua mãe: haha sadly it's not really the case...I got a lot more studying to do
DStraX: thanks for the comment
Smallish update again sorry...my scanner isn't working so I promise I'll post some pencil stuff later (I'm getting sorta slack these days
Another attempt with the brush (I don't like this one as much though)
an enviro for playing around with colours...it's a bit oversaturated
er...messing around, didn't ref so it looks kinda wonky, not really sure what to make of it
did a study from a photo...you can tell I have NO set rendering method lol...its all over the place....I worked on this on and off for the past few days while doing new year stuff with family and each time I open up photoshop to work on it I paint a different way haha....it's such a mess.
would love some crits on colour
I like the colours in the girl piece.
I think what would make it a stronger picture would be to refine the rendering on the girl, or just her face, so it's a nice contrast against the scratchy background.
Hahaha...you say you've got some different rendering styles in there...I would say that's definitely true, but still, it looks good the parts separate...as HunterKiller said, the face could use some polishing...that would just help draw in some focus with the image...besides, that's what we want to look at. You're asking for crits on color though? Sorry man...it looks good...and I'm no expert. I was going to say maybe look to make sure that you have your secondary light sources in there...reflected light and what not. But then again, I can't see the reference, so they might be nonexistent! Looks good all the same man. I can't wait to see more.
Hi PaperX (waves)
How's things in NZ?
HunterKiller_: thanks man, yeah you're right about that..
sketcheth: the original photo was kind of edited (you know, kind of bloomy and such), I just chose it cuz I liked the colours
JERI: HEY DUDE!!! its going good man! how are you? PM me your msn or something, love to catch up with ya
Some newish stuff:
Speed paint I gave up on:
Teen Challenge entries, the topic was Dead or Alive...I painted two pieces cuz I wasn't satisfied with the result...still not really, but it was good practice
really nice studies man, nailed the lighting on the top two in particular. I like the colours and composition of the speedpaint further up too, solid beginnings. cool stuff.

kick ass study
Dude, this stuff looks great! I really like those digital figure studies...nice values...just beautiful. I'm really loving that sketch of Alice and the Cheshire cat...I'm really glad to see these more regular updates!
The SP is really nice as well, I love the saturated colors you've been using lately. It'd be really neat to see if you can push yourself to the opposite extreme and do a self portrait that really favors realism and careful blending in skin tones and stuff. Really be sporadic with the styles, it'll loosen you up!
Keep at it, I can't wait for the next post! Can't wait!
wookiedabo: Thanks man!
zou: thank you, I'll keep working on it!
tengu nz thanks
sketcheth: sorry about not updating as regular as I should...I tried doing what you suggested but kinda failed....
Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!!!
another self portrait...I'm really trying to work on my colours...not very satisfied with this...
I also translated a really good tutorial written by LINRAN in Chinese, check out his sketchbook if you haven't already, amazing stuff!
click on the pic below to read the tutorial (not very 56k friendly...)
mc2mc2: thanks dude, I'll try!
So yeah, I decided to get my ass in gear and work harder from now on, so I'll be trying to keep updating this sketchbook everyday!
another self portrait...
i also did some studies today but its too late to scan, since the scanner's not in my room and it'll probably wake up the entire household with its noise.
It's great to see you working again! I love how experimental your self portraits are and how un-experimental mine are. Really, man...keep this going, it looks great so far. I like those colors quite a bit actually, especially the warm/cool shadows...pretty stuff. Keep it up!
sketcheth: Thanks man, I think I'm going to do daily SP's from now on too....A CHALLENGER APPEARS! haha
sorry no scanned stuff again today...tried to work on my lines but failed pretty miserably so was kinda annoyed for the whole day...meh art's such a bitch.
a study I did last week I think, didn't finish and forgot to post:
another selfportrait, gonna do these daily now...
AvisNocturna: thanks i wish i could nail the lines faster and more accurate tho...
Cavematty: thanks man, your stuff is looking pretty sweet as well
urgh a bit too tired from life drawing today to scan stuff sorry, still did a self-portrait when I got back though...can't say its my best effort but I'll stick to doing one per day.
oooh fancy edgework going in here....
there are soem perspective problems in the self portrait that has happened due to the tones and edges though
And yer studys getting better man.
Cant wait to see beign a rockstart soon....
bhanu: haha thanks man I dunno about being a rockstar...got a looooong way to go before I even consider myself decent compared to most of CA anyhow....thanks for pointing out about the perspective man...I'll pay more attention next time Have you checked out Lin Ran's tutorial I translated yet? its pretty sweet man, the link's in my sig or just above, I found it pretty useful even if you don't use photoshop.
Sorry guys I kinda got lazy and didn't scan as much as planed (then again I have like about a sketchbook worth of stuff I haven't posted in here so kinda no point posting stuff that's too old...
er...read a bit too much Shintaro Kago
coffee shop sketches
Jase/Rusty, damn looking at him draw in real life is insane, man he's too good
Kinda old doodle that I sorta liked, the girl's face is ref'd though
really bad SP today....man the nose is so off and slanted...urgh
Some thumbnails for the new Teen Challenge, topic is Insomnia...quite like it, think I'll enjoy this one
Clearly you've made vast improvements...
...it's also obvious you devote a lot of time and effort for your love of art.
Keep at it!
mc2mc2: thanks man...me too, me too...
Glory666: thanks for the support
Um....I felt really unmotivated today...was working on my teen challenge entry and it turned out pretty bad....would love some critique and thoughts on it so far....I kinda wanna scrap it and start again lol... its supposed to be the eyes being kept open with the eyelashes being sewed btw...
SP of the day...man the likeness is kinda off on this one....gotta work on those coloursssssss

I think her butt would be a lot bigger especially from foreshortening, and maybe her head a little big? But excellent rendering my friend, you followed the basic form of the torso really nice and your eyes just glide over it, its a wonderful viewing experience.
Nice colours, again, really. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...8&d=1233326035
Definitely looks as though you are approaching this in a good way, the painters, way. Much more advanced than anything i've ever done. Delicious work my friend!

Wow! Diligence! I'm so proud! :3
Seriously though...this is really impressive. I really like those life drawings...the continued self portraits are also really nice...keep going at it man, I can't critique because i'm being shown up by you, but I have to say...your work is something else... already seeing the development happen..I like those pelvis studies...
Your art is looking great man. Love your pencils, and your portraits show great character with those brush-strokes. Keep em coming.
hunchbackmagee: thanks for the crit! I have a short attention span so when I don't like something I'm working on I tend to scrap it pretty quick heh...
Kronos: thanks man...I don't think I deserve that much praise haha...will keep updating though, DAILY!
sketcheth: no way man, YOUR sketchbook was the reason for me to get my lazy ass to keep updating, thanks for the constant inspiration
Hive_minD: thanks, will do!
working on a new concept for Teen Challenge....kinda cliche so far though...meh getting a bit frustrated over this...not feeling very creative recently
Today's SP...kinda lazy but I sorta like the outcome...really loving this brush
