really cool work mate, been using this as my desktop for about a week now http://www.gorillaartfare.com/IA/e4.jpg
I really appreciate all the step-by-step's and explanations in your multiple threads too, thanks!
Those one hour studies are great. You're getting a more natural look as well. You're using Photoshop right? Is that some "dual brush" trickery going on to get that fine texture in the strokes? All my shit looks like default round brush. Argh.
The lightning in your environments is SO beautiful, you really have away with colours. Especially how the Water is reflecting...it is painful somehow, cause this shows me how much i still have to learn, you really are an inspiriration :>
Also the LMS Entry, the colors are so well balanced out, i don´t know what to say...ah, and i like her costume XD
And thank you for commenting on my blog, i didn´t recognized that at first cause the entry was so old already XDD
Viele Wege führen nach Rom
Great update, I always enjoy your posts, great idea with the one hour studies they're looking great by the way I belive the 4th from the top the "unknown" is a Maxfield Parrish if I'm not mistaken
-yep its "Winter" by Maxfield Parrish 1906
Can't really find words to describe how I love your work.....
There is always glowing in them.
BTW, I've been using your brushes since I first started paint digitally, and they are still always on the top of my brush tool bar.
wow i'm not sure i said it before so : "wow!"
abd i dont mean wow just for your last post
more more more
WOW 2 bitchin' hot updates I didn't see!
fuck I have had to learn too much maths for University. :/
but I'll pass the tests for good as far as it looks…
now for some hot ass crits: "I had enough of those motherfucking uncrited pics on this motherfucking plane (I mean thread)"
Post 1145: (that'S a lot of posts)
#1: nice colours in the fore and middle ground
BG is too white and fogy imo
it could use more teeth (like a focuspoint) were the copm already leads the eye (this pit type place in the chasm) I thought about a stone structure like stonehenge or such)
#2: snow looks great (like a fast executed casper david friedrich) but the foreground looks displaced and alien
and the structed green in the very down right looks unloved, like a half life 1 texture
#3: I like how you walk that dog and his owner through all of them exotic enviros
the only(!) thing I dislike about this pic is the big roundish stone structure in the right part of the pic
only the dog looks too stiff for such a close look
gotta love the way you work reds, greens and blues into the snow
#5: the uper right part is too dark imo (only a bit though)
#6: WTF this will be a hell of a BBQ!
extending the blood into some kind of lake would highten the gorey effect
reminds me of clubing baby seals (no reason to dislike the pic *g*)
#7: sharper edges!
#8: Freud would have quite some fun looking at those sketches ^__^
I'm glad you become more and more comfortable with the pencil
very refreshing value range (something some of your coloured enviros lack)
#9: HWAT! thx a ton for the WIP, they are always a pleasure
there are a lot of things to love and or hate with this pic
it's just beautiefuly strange in what it show, but some areas look too raw and undetailed
I myself pussed out of the LMS due to many faied attempts to get something good out of the topic (which sucked balls imo)
#2 to #5: very liquid landscapes
they look great and I don't have anything to crit here
#6: I'd cut it of kinda like this
#7: very muddy colours
I kind of don't know where to look at (sharp/crisp focuspoint)
#8 & #9: charas
I'm very glad you do them
even though those could even be abstract landscapes ^^
studies from reference:
the orange one looks flat and the face seems too large for the head
I wish I was able to bring myself to train enviros like you train faces D: (selfrightous sobbing)
1 hour studies: you rly nailed the big brush to small brush technique
you should try to do the exactly same task with pencils and/or other medias
it's 3 o'clock in the morning and I can't sleep
thx for sweeteing up my time
I'm already looking forward to your new posts
btw: could you post the Craig mullins ref? I'd love to see that
(god damn I just realized there is no way to still enter this weeks CHOW with my half assed entry and still being able to go to uni tomorrow)

Mutant Zombies, I like those, great update!
wow awesome man. these 1 hour studies seem like an awesome idea man. so let me pick you brain about that if you don't mind. is it a good idea to do these kind of thing using paintings as ref or photo's? you are using paintings right, so how do you study it? do you try to re-make as much strokes as possible?
The video in post #1145 is great, I think if you cropped out the tool boxes you've got performance art. What is the first song in that video?
I have a question about something you do a few times in your video... You take your whole image... looks like you duplicate it and then bend it around and shape it the way you want it... my question is... how do you duplicate the entire image and keep all your layers... usually if I do something like this I have to flatten my image then duplicate the whole thing.. It's probably something simple like select merged layers or something but I just figured I'd ask you because I see you do it in your videos.
Thanks Tom, and thanks for the good links to the art sites in each of your posts.
hey, just wanted to pop in here again. Love your LSM pic and the 1 hour studies are a great idea. i just went to a class where they discussed utilizing time like this. great work. (...and in response to your earlier reponse, yes i'm attemping to DRAW landscapes, not painting them yet i dont have the confidence!)
just wanted to tell you man! that i really like your work keep it up! please!!
Your progress from page 1 is motivational, I was happy to see a two year expanse, it gives me hope. You rock

Excellent work, very inspirational!! I love your palettes, and you do a good job really using your brush strokes to sexy effect. Also cool to see so much experimentation, keep it up!
