haha my icon isn't a badger.... i dont know what it is... hmmm maybe a new theme of animals... making them not look like anything but resemble a few things.
wow i like the studies and i also like mentler's comment on them. hehe... it's like my own little tutorial in here. i get to learn and learn some more!
and that frazetta emulation - omg, freakin amazing!! did you learn tons while doing that? i'm thinking of copying a famous artist to learn as well.
I come offering love and praise!
hot dang your stuff is interesting! I really need to learn from you... so, question time!
How long are your life drawings taking, things like :
In particular, i really need to work on getting my lines nice, sexy and silky smooth like that! Any suggestions or things about the way you work?
im SO hot for that, its got "cool" written all over it, tighten it up a bit more, mainly just the guy but possible give the monster thingeh some more saturated colors or something *shrug* Im more inclined towards big snake than thing with wings too, but thats me.
mentler-Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate the crit and will keep that in mind for when I do my 2 hour portrait on thursday.
fukifino-Thanks! You are right about his satche, didnt realize it until you said it though.
MattGamer-Thanks! Yes many people have told me that they learn in my thread, that is good to know. For the emulation, yes I think I did learn alot, but a problem that I am having is for instance the guy with the sword and the snaky thing behind him, i am getting back into some bad habits, but I think thats a huge jump for me from my last digital pieces after doing the Fraz copy.
Jackwhat-Thanks. My figures go from 2,3,5 mins, 20 mins, 2 hours, and I have a 15 hour drawing posted on the 1st page i think. that particular image that you selected was a 20 min drawing. Here is a link to one of my teachers threads, his explanations will probably be better than mine. http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60746. As for that last piece, I will probably have it done in a few weeks, I just have to work on some other stuff first. But for working on your lines, the pencil i use for these is the conte charcoal pencil that i carve a nice taper into it so i can get a variety of different lines, just keep practicing and be loose and not uptight.
good works Man, Keep it up.
very nice man. i like your charaters.try sketching some zombies i bet you would be pretty good at them.
mercenaryFat Boy-Thanks, its been awhile since i sketched zombies too.
Its been alittle too long since i updated this last. Just a few sketches from my sketchbook from the last month or so, copies and doodles of what not. When the TD is posted, I will post my drawing for that.
I really like that concept! I can't say much for the blue you used in the BG... Maybe less green for the moutain part, but I like the sky!
I'm gonna come back to this one for sure.
Really nice studies, and paintings in here. I also like your TD peice, It took me a bit to see he was putting an ace in his collar, very clever.
Nice work Matt and yes i really enjoyed your mirror piece and as far as me and Dartwin go we're not mirror identical we both happen to be right handed. I find it rather interesting that you guys are mirror identical. Anyhow good work fellow Smith i'll be rooting for you if you make it to the next round! Good work i have to get in on these challenges. Good stuff your life drawing is really improving at a rapid rate, Keep it up!!
Pixeldragoon-Thanks I appreciate it!
MattGamer-Thanks, ya our name does rock!
Darktwin-thanks, this one is the final though, yes there is alot of bloooooo.
ashrumm-Thanks. You 2 should do the challenges, they are so much fun.
Here is some work I did at Watts last monday. Now too bad for not doing it for 3 weeks but there are some issues.
guh... man, this is seriously kikin'.
I love the way you render some of these. Like in that poker pic, the to figures to the left.. great.
I would suggest working on proportion tho, sometimes your feet seems a bit big, I could be me tho.
but you got it flowin, me likes the digitals.
Very dynamic work, keep it up!
awesome stuff man, haven't actually seen this sb before and now I'm glad I've found it. I'd just liketo asksomething thatI asked Intern (also a watts dude) how all these life drawings andstudies transfer into ur more conceptarty non ref stuff? Because I mean that is the aim right? To better your understanding of anatomy so that u don't have to use ref? Oh andu've inspired me to bust out the oils, thanks!
bloq-thanks! to answer your question can be alittle difficult but i will try. i would say these life drawings if anything to transfer to my conceptual art is just mileage of drawing. It can be done from books if you want to copy books, i think you learn more from doing life drawings especially when you have good teachers. concept artists arent always the best figure drawers, but they are good designers and concept art isnt always done without refrence, if you cant draw well from your head you should always have a ref. For example, I dont know if you have the first guild wars art book, but alot of the figurative work was taken right from bridgeman. My suggestion though if you want to be a good figure inventor, would be to do alot of life drawings, study and memorize your anatomy and copy other artists that do great figure inventions/have great, dynamic figure pieces.
i see some hyung tae kim characters in those last pencil sketches. hehe i love that guy's girls! i've drawn those girls you drew too... but they're hidden in my archives someplace.
love the painting, is that oils on canvus? very pretty girl
Darktwin-Thanks! Yes he does have some crazy designs.
MattGamer-Thanks! Its oil on canvas board. The image came from national geographic portrait book, the next one will be done from life.
Some studies from bridgeman, skillful huntsman, and a portrait sketch of the midas guy on the brochure while i was waiting for my car to be fixed.
not much to say except great thumbnails and studies. manga stuff looking good too man. keep it up.
