It's so quiet in here lately. Meh. Maybe I should focus more on Finally Finished forum.
Anyway...here's some speedpainting with mix of traditional and digital. |

I've been keeping with your updates, but I never have anything to critique! Each piece looks great. I like the subtle colors and illustrative style in the latest post. Perhaps the water could be more "watery", and the bottom of the structure is a little flat.

Enjoying these updates. That little gasmask vedor rat (?) is wicked. I'd love to see you take that idea further... like a post-apocalyptic Wind in the Willows.

! How's it going? Are you still keeping up your architectur study? About your scetches I _really_ don't have any critiques on them, everything is pretty sweet, I'm especially jealous of your line-weight variations. This is particularly jummy: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1250274292You're jumping around and ahead my friend! Oh, and could you tell me why there's a "+" behind your nick?

YihyoungLi - Thanks. You're right about the tower. I was too lazy to finish it properly.
Munin Raven - I might add this idea to my new personal project. Originally humanoid rat was inspired by skaven race from Warhammer universe but it can be explored more in different settings. Thanks for dropping by. B-Man - Thanks, man. BlackDelphin - Thanks! dCepT - Thanks! R&F - There will be more inks. I jump back and forth between mediums but ink can be applied in so many ways that's it's whole big world to explore. Really fascinating. Thanks for dropping by. Flaskpost - Thanks man. I'm glad you like it. KingElvis - Thanks! midknight523 - Thnx! ~Faust~ - Haha. I'm just grateful for any comment. That's why the abuse of "Thank" button. Right now I'm finishing my architecture studies and doing final thesis project. It's really a torture because last stages are really laborious and deadline is really close. I'll probably go for some big trip after that to relax a bit. There's big chance I'll go to the workshop too. You don't need to be jealous of line variation . I'm just using several tools for single drawing. Brushes give lots of variation too."+" thing is from that networking feature added to the forum. If you add someone to your friend list, he will have that next to his nickname. Thanks for dropping by. I guess I'll post something to keep this thread going. Unfortunately I don't have much time for more finished or complicated stuff lately. Sooner or later though I'll try to refresh my portfolio a bit because there is workshop coming . That's a good motivation to do something mindblowing (or in my case better than decent). I've been looking more frequently at old masters art and found out to my surprise I often used similar compositions to Gustave Caillebotte. I'm also collecting some painting images of Jan Stanisławski and his students. I love the mood in his paintings. Some thumbnails I do to relax in free time. They don't take much time so they are sometimes good for busy day. Simple speedpaintings. I'm lately doing a lot of custom brushes for different textures. I also try to get rid of bad habit of painting really dark environments.

Thanks a lot yoitisi. Some replies might not make sense now but at least I'm complete. Past, present and future are together in one dot
![]() To spice up this post I'll post some design I've been doing in free time for long while. It slowed down lately but I'll go back to this later. It's going to be spaceship design inspired by old Elite series. Another model after Cobra MkIII. The design will include both exterior and interior. I tried to think about every piece and how to fit it in. Sketches here show how I developed basic shapes and structure. From the three variations on the left I chose the top one. Very rough sketchup models. Some details are going to be changed. In the section pic the hull has no thickness yet but I'm going to include it when painting. |

I am really impressed by your ability to conceive environments from your imagination. The second environment's lighting and composition in your previous post are really amazing. Overall super awesome updates!
Do you work as an illustrator or concept artist?

YihyoungLi - Thanks. Lately I did one freelance job. I wouldn't call myself professional though. It's not regular thing and major source of income yet.

Whoa, suddenly your SB is turning to 50 pages! Glad to see the merging happened, I'll definitely make the time and browse through it
![]() Thanks for sharing your process above, it was really interesting seeing the basic idea evolve into a complex sketchup model. Looking very solid. But my favourites here, as always, are your enviros. My own weakest point are just those, so it's such an inspiration boost seeing your work. Say, I don't mean to leech, but do you possible have any pointers or even tutorials that helped you? Or it it simply pure and hard work? I wouldn't be surprised! In any case, thanks for sharing, these are gorgeous. And your latest piece is fantastic!

Monkeydominator - Thanks! I played with angles a bit in this piece so it's a bit more dynamic than usual. Sometimes though I don't really know what I'm doing
.R&F - Thanks! To be honest I was sketching some architectural pieces before being architecture student so it's not directly connected. Maybe I changed a bit into being more analytical. I dunno. lilnebo - Thnx! Merging sketchbooks was more for people than for myself. Maybe somebody will learn stuff from my struggles. AsaB - Hehe. 50 pages shows now I'm old man here . Thanks for dropping by. Regarding environments... I thought for a longer while on my past discoveries and I can hardly find something totally relevatory. It must be hard work then and lots of minor observations The only environment tutorial that I easily recall would be Ryan Church Gnomon DVD - http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/sto...-Ryan-Church-3. He shows pretty simple process where you first block in simple solid shapes with focus on value, then glaze everything with color and use "Color dodge" brush to add subtle light. To add depth paint on separate layer with soft airbrush that could emulate atmosphere and erase too much of it to keep the silhouettes clear. The problem with this technique is that it always leads to overly melodramatic dark mood which is OK for certain environments but I find it too limiting. Now I'm into braking away from this type of approach and trying to put more thought into what value range I use.As for the pointers. I'd say limit the things you work on at the same time. For perspective pieces try practicing with line only or do some simple environmets with focus on shadow/light in shades of gray only. Also it's good to start with thumbnail and then you just resize it and you have good start (I still tend to start full size but then I often regret it). Maybe I'll show some process for my environments once in a while. I haven't done much of that. Here's something different. For background I painted just single balcony and copied it many times to create whole building. EDIT: Improved. Thanks hp.

I think I need to rethink my approach. I'm gonna keep what you said in mind, thanks again! And that DVD looks interesting, maybe when I'll have some money I could check it out.Fantastic latest picture! Seems like you're exploring something new, I really like it.
