hey man, you are updating like a crazy person, great going ^^
I enjoy the last couple of characters, they have that space retro style to them, really cool take.

I enjoy your exterior envos quite a lot, splendid work but your interiors get a little busy at times, watch that.

Keep rocking this man, you are doing great things.

Thanks Yeah the space retro style is what I'm intending for all of them. But it seems so much easier for me to show it with the characters, then with the exteririors, etc. Oh well, need moar experience!

Todays update! A mutant, rawr. And some ship designs, I'm very insecure about stuff like this, so I just did the side views, to get the idea across atleast. Instead of spending hours, I dont have, on getting it right. Bah deadlines.

Hey Duq. Great to see you posting so often again.
Sorry to butt in, but konw that I am subbed to your thread, so i'm a fan as well as a critic

Thought I'd comment about your ship profiles - they seem a little bitsy.
You should try thinking about what you want the shape to be like - ie. aggresive/passive. Is it an attack ship or a freighter? What is the species like? Warlike? Aquatic? etc. And then link it back to shapes we know. If its a completely new shape it looks like bad design cos it is too alien. If it bears a resemblance to a shape we know, no matter how altered or recontextualise, we will accept it more easily. And probably find it more pleasing.
I think if you also made the silhouettes solid black and found a good shape before cutting back in for internal details with a small white brush, then you would find yourself less destracted by making it look like a ship.
The detail can come later.

Also for something like a ship, hold shift when drawing so your lines are ruler straight. Sketchy is cool, but wonky lines just make industrial designs look amatuer (this was a crit someone else gave me recently on an environment sketch and it was spot on - improved my piece heaps when i applied their comment). I can see you are doing it for the horizontals etc, but some of the sketchy diagonals just don't sell for me. Try turning down the brushes minimum opacity setting and doing your diagonals with the shift key too

Also a technique I saw the guys using in the Industrial Design of the Week thread a while back - they were taking existing pieces of industrial design that they like - one guy took his phone charger, one a pair of headphones - and base a ship on that shape. That way you are borrowing an existing sense of balance, and consistent shape language for your design. I thought that was a great idea
Hope that helps some? Good luck matey. Deadlines are great motivators, but still do the best work you can!

Matty

Some very nice black and white works there I like the graphical look they have. And they seem to get better for each one as well

Your characters looks nice so far as well, small things here and there, but nice overall.

Keep working, nice to see so much from you

plop

matty: Thanks Yeah Yoitisi from the ID mentor stuff already kicked my ass for the same thing. The thing is that I'm just overthinking it, it must be a ship, or it must be an envirioment. A bit in the same way like what I used to do with characters. Need some more experience, get rid of those ideas and just make cool stuff

Thanks for all the advice, its really appreciated ^_^

Sorky: Thanks Yeah everything has it bugs so far. When I got some time left of my deadline I will fix everything. But right now, quantity of quality sadly.

Todays update. I worked abit on the religuous faction of the world. Not really a fan of the envirioments, but the character turned out oke.

I actually like your characters quite a bit! But your environments are really nice too! I think I second the guys comment up there about using the black brush to find your shapes then coming back with white to really get it all out.
That's a technique that I'm going to start using when I get back into digital painting.
Anyway, crits...
The guy aboves hands look a little flat for the direction. You definitely have a feel for cloth, so that's really great.
Hehe, your environments look pretty nice. Very clean. Spruce 'em up with a splash of one other color. It will make them look really interesting, plus draw the eye and keep it there. Kind of how Sin City did it.
Those ships up there could def. use some refinement. Don't play it safe, play it dangerous ;D Most people get the coolest results when they do that.
Anyway, ready to see more... never stop drawing

Update! Woooo. Not a good one, havent drawn alot since June and kinda need to warm up again.

SO what do we have, one IRC thunderdome deisgn. Some 20-40 min speedpaints, hard stuff . And a 100 torso gestures, I just dont seem to get a nice variety with it though.

=//=

Malakai SinClair: Thanks for your crits You got some very good points in there

petitemistress: Yeah, I just dont seem to manage lightweights very well. I'm just pressing to much when I start covering the sketch with cleaner lines

John: Thanks John ^^

ohomoho: Thanks man

Slash: I UPDATEDED SLASH

Good work on the gestures and the environment, some strong moods in them. Next update will contain 100 gestures including all appendages, rite? ees time to step it up!

//edit: and don't forget to give them boobs! T_T

//edit: what is your reference source for the gestures? or did you gung-ho it from your head?

You are getting really good mate, cheers!

This stuff rocks. I saw some of the b&w stuff at the Sketchmeet but here I see much progress. I like the last environments for the looseness. Have you ever thought to participate to EoW? It's a valid exercise...

yarr update. Some drawings from the train and travelling. And a bunch of Min studies. SHould do arm and hand studies

=//=

slash: thanks man! Still no boobs this time though :p. I mostly just do them from my head. Or from ref at times, it depends how annoyed I am with my lack of knowledge :p

PM: thanks! And I forget about the CHOW

Buckster: Thanks again!

Revenbo: Hey man, cool to see you here Yeah I thought about the EOW, but I want some more practice first, these where just getting lucky with random brushes I'm afraid And I had no clue what I was doing.

Shalite: Haha, man if it was magic it would be awesome! First think I would do is grind them up in magic dust, and conjur me a little scanning monkey!

More selfportrait, this one failed. Hard. I should sketch it out first, this painting without lines is not my thing I guess.

this one is bettar, but you keep eating bits off the cranium! it's actually a great exercise to start without line, BUT aint nothing wrong with going bag when you're at this stage and verify some shapes with light linework...

I'll post my first SP of the day in my sb today as part of our training agreement I'll keep doing it if you keep doing it! X3
