This is another alla prima painting on location in La Quinta CA. Total painting time 1hourand the size of the painting is 12x16 inches. The biggest thing to remember painting this fast is to lock in the shadows in the beginning and don't chase the light.
After you establish a drawing block in the big midtone masses of color and value. You see these by squinting at the scene which removes detail. Then work to add information without obliterating the initial passages. You do this by starting with thin paint applications and then thicker application for the later passages.
I use a warm and cool palette of primary colors and mix my greens and blacks as I go.
