ROUND #176 :: Chow Carnivalé

DESCRIPTION

Chow Carnivalé

Masquerade!

This week we're taking a leaf from Venice and 17th/18th century europe, and holding a masquerade ball!

You are all invited, but remember, you must come in costume, complete with mask!

The rules this week are simple. This is a self-portrait round, where you will be portraying yourself in costume for the event. Masks are a requirement, but that does not mean you have to wear them - you can be holding them, have them off to the side if you want to show the face as well, etc.

Your costume must somehow reflect you, but how it does this is entirely your choice! Maybe it's your favourite colour, or incorporates design elements from your favourite season, or animal, or maybe you're dressing to match your favourite historical period.

The (hypothetical) ball itself is modern day, but with a historical twist, just like most modern-day masques.

ACCEPTANCE TO POLL WILL BE BASED ON THREE CRITERIA:
1: DID THE ARTIST FOLLOW THE BRIEF? (allowance for creative takes will be made).
2: IS THE PIECE ARTISTICALLY SOUND? (Is the illustration "finished?" - did the artist pay attention to anatomy, perspective, other fundamentals?).
3: IS THIS ILLUSTRATION THE BEST ONE?

PLACE THE IMAGE IN A FRAME WITH YOUR NAME/TOPIC
SAVE YOUR FILE IN THE FOLLOWING FORMAT:

THE REST IS EASY:
1: No comments before poll is set. They WILL be deleted with utmost malice and petty grumbling.

Hi!

I took daestwen advice with this one ("your costume must somehow reflect you") and used the gloomy weather outside that influenced my mood. But that helped me (even tough i did the whole thing with the gloves in my hands), this is the period when i am most productive , dark and cold rainy days ... hope it lasts ^^

For this, I wanted to try something new. This was my first attempt at Anime so it was a good learning experience. Part of my heritage is Scottish and I do have natural red hair so to make character "me", I went with a blend of common anime features and traditional Scottish clothing and Celtic designs. Specifially I'm apart of the Scottish Clan Donald, so I used that tartan and crest. The design in the background is also similar to the Celtic tattoo I have going around my left arm.

Also, when I was in the army, a unit tradition we had was to have a watergun fight the day we all returned from the field so I wanted to throw in some of my army side as well without making it too obvious.
