Concept: Moon Ink Driller
One of the thousand of monsters that lives in the undergrounds of the Moon, the Moon Ink Driller uses his ink to color all his surroundings in black and then change his skin to camouflage in the black environment. It can also spray the enemies with the ink for defense as well as use the sticky ink to capture the prays.

If the pic is too big tell me so I scale it down. I'm using the one I uploaded to my site, but I can upload another smaller one.
This is my first COW, I'm sorry if I'm missing something!. I didn't post in the WIP thread because, well.. I started the challenge about 30 mins ago, and seemed like this challenge was about to finish!.

Flying Piranha

Artist: Josu

Concept: Flying Piranha

The Flying piranha was discovered living on the subterrean caverns of the moon, it looks like a bat, but actually is an amphibian. This creature acquired his name cause usually they are on groups of thousands, and when they hunt can devour every moving being in seconds. When they are disturbed for some predator as a defensive method they exhale poisonous gas from their mouth and back.

Concept: Satellite Borer Nymph

Adult satellite borers lay their eggs in natural satellites. Upon hatching, the hungry nymphs feast on whatever nutrients they can absorb from crushing up and digesting the surrounding dirt. As a result of their size and poor diet they are slow moving and can take thousands of years to complete their life cycle. The nymph is well equipped for digging with large front claws. Its tough 'beak' enables it to crush up rock and its spines help it to pull its large body forward through tunnels.

Concept: water leecher
all over the years scientists thought that the moon was dry.what they didnt know was that there is a reason for that.recent experiments indicate dthat there should be water there but there arent any on the surface so after several experiments and sending out probes to the underground caves of the moon the scientists discovered that the underground surface was full of leeches like creatures that were leeching the moon's water ,not letting it to get to the surface thus keeping the moon dry .

Concept: Sub Luna lifeform

Sub Luna Lifeform 13b was discovered on the dark side of the moon in a great cavern below an impact crater. The bioluminescent creatures seem connected somehow to the local flora, acting as an agent for propagation. They are also able to communicate telepathically with our scientist to a certain degree. Testing is ongoing.

Concept: Moonflower
The so called Moonflower (space-latin letters not available) lives several hundred of miles down under the surface of the moon. It searches for pray by using its ultra sensitive ears and other unknown for mankind alien senses. When pray is located (could be miles away) it crushes its way forward into the stonemass with its bonehead until it gets hold of the poor sod that is its victim. It can stay without food for milleniums, wich is also the situation for todays Moonflowers since the moon is a dead piece of stone floating in space. They stay in position until the moon once again gets inhabited...

Concept: NASApoid

Brief fron NASA:

Why do men dream of space travel? The answer lies in the NASApoid, as our best men in the space and aeronautics field have dubbed the creature(s?) now inhabiting our moon. Our call to land on the moon was at first thought to be the race between the Russians and Americans, but new evidence supports the theory that the NASApoid(s?) have developed wonderful ways of telepathically communicating with us to send us up to where he/she/they dwell. Since our shuttles have yet to return due to various malfunctions/explosions/consumption, we only know that the entity(entities?) live under the moon's surface. One thing is for certain, as long as our beloved NASApoid(s) keep showing themselves on the surface, NASA will keep launching shuttles for first contact!

Concept: Lunar Silt Walker
After the twin detonations on the surface of the moon, NASA's research team began detecting what was described as "anomalies". The mass awakening of the Silt Walker species shocked humanity. The species discovery was fascinating at first, but once once pictures of the dark side of the moon were developed, fascination slowly turned to concern.

It's been 6 months since the second LCROSS mission was launched to find out the potential for water to aid in colonizing the moon. The space program has reasserted itself as a driving force of the betterment for society with the successful landing of three astronauts on the lunar surface. Their mission was to find out first hand the likelyhood of extracting water from the inner crust of the moons surface. What they did not expect to find was an even bigger threat from beneath the surface guaranteeing the destrucion of the human dream to one day colonize our smallest neighbor in the sky.
As it turns out, the moon is not ours and never will be.

The big moonworms were discovered upon closer inspection of one of the moons many craters.
The moontunneler burrows into the moon and protects its soft body from spacedebris with its hardened tail. The Moontunneler spends most of its time beneath the moons surface but will typically come up to sunbathe when the Moontunnelers nest is directly beneath the sun.

Finally managed to upload it... "manage attachments" was giving me problems...

After finding the creatures in a dehydrated state, a series of test were implemented, the first of the which consisted in trying to rehydrate a sample, resulting in the sudden revival of the creature. More of them were subjected to the procedure, which soon proved to be a mistake. the recently baptysed "Scalars" started to behave highly territorial once that their numbers were dangerous. This creatures are able to manipulate and make a visible manifestation of dark matter and energy, which they use for defense and locomotion respectively, and made them impossible to contain. The remain crew fled before the attacks were worse.

Concept: Mouligoth

Just as Columbus was not the first to discover the Americas, so too was the story with Space Travel. The Mayans had been sending missions to the Moon centuries before NASA made their first space suit. In acts meant to appease unseen deities, ancient Mayan moon worshipper sects had been using volcanoes to launch missile shaped monoliths packed with animal sacrifices directly to their lunar overlord.

But even before the Mayans - in unseen caverns beneath forgotten lunar craters, the Mouligoths had lived and died aeons before the coming of man, but their primal matter still lingered, needing only the proper host material to take form again. Along come the Mayans and give them a veritable smorgasboard of organic play doh.

Recently NASA began a vigorous bombing campaign aimed at searching for ice beneath the moon's outer crust and unearthed (or unmooned) these surrogate spawn of the ancient Mayans and the far more ancient Mouligoths.

For days after the the test, these giant creatures leaked out into space. NASA has no information on the glowing substance inside the moon, some scientists have a theory that the moon is a giant egg filled with these space worms and the glowing fluid is what they feed off of for centuries. So far 30 worms have been seen exiting the moon and are heading toward the Earth. Soon we will find out if they threaten our terrestrial planet.

CHOW 158 Lives beneath the surface of the Moon

Artist: Harmageddon
Concept: moondigger

When scientists from NASA stared at the screens in anticipation to look for the right signals from the spectrometer that would indicate the presence of water on the moon, they were shocked to find they had just made their first interplanetary kill. Typically, the ESA referred to this incident later as the "American approach", which was dubbed to be "shoot first, ask questions later".

your-description

Sadly after the NASA bombardment of the moon humans learned far too late that these "moons" are actually prisons. Such was the prison of the Ah Puch bringer of death and key to all the other moons within the solar system. Already on its way to other such prisons, it is predicted, (judging the Ah Puch's speed) that each will be opened by the year 2012. Who knows what other horrors lie within them.

I voted for Edward B, with JoshDArtist in a close second.

Edward, I just loved the way you rendered your creature. And you made the pose work so well, despite making the creature look away from us. All in all, my favorite critter of the round.

Josh, I also really liked the sinister nature of your creature. The face spoke of some alien evil, I really liked it. The only problem I had was in it's snake like body. I think too much of it was emerging from the crater, making it look a little awkward.

Nice job to everybody. See you next round.

Hey y'all,

I voted for acb - that's just an awesome alien you got there.
I can definitely picture that living on the moon or some other planet. Also I like the way it looks like it's living in water (with all the tentacles and all). Because water also gives creatures the ability to perceive less gravity as water pushes back.

As for the rest of you:
Tom K - cool concept, nice line drawing in the WIP thread. I just can't read the colored version too well as it's too dark and seems almost rushed in some parts. Too bad, because this has potential.
Arteater - Nice. I mean, the colors, the creatures and I very much like the way you handled the light sources.
Steve somers - Wow. That's just cool. I like this piece a lot, close second. The dramatic frog perspective works very well in your piece.
Doomsupporter - Actually your drawing is deceptively simple. Yet the back story is intriguing. Skulls that turn everything to dust is a powerful image. However, they seem to be living on the surface of the moon, instead of in it.
Samolo - I like your drawing and the story, it's just that it doesn't give me a "lives beneath the surface of the moon" feel, maybe because there's no moon.
Edward B - Like others have said, daring move to show the creature from behind. .. as if we're safely behind the giant beast yet the "this is not good" as it's between the earth and us, has impact.
tsabu - your creature looks a little too nimble to be digging through rock. Other than that, I like the colors and the creature itself.
MasterPete - cool concept, nice colors. But I can't read the image very well. It's a plant that lives inside the moon? As in those blob like structures? Or does it cling to the surface and does the creature include the slice of mooncrust we see breaking away. I'm just curious, that's all.
scorge - awesome! Very active composition, nice colors, I like it. It's just that I liked acb's more.
JoshDArtist - I can't really think of anything that's wrong with your picture, it could definitely be living inside the moon. There's just too much to choose from!
Duman - I can't really see those creatures breaking through rock with those nimble legs. However, it's definitely alien, and the rather monochrome colour palette helps to establish an eerie atmosphere.
Reymus - this one made me smile However, I do wonder... how did it get there? And what made it so big?
ragnj - I would have liked you to make it more three dimensional. As in, this seems a cut through "profile" shot, only one arm and leg are visible. Also a light source would make it more dramatic I think.
evolvingeye -
Vampire Ninja- this reminds me of Terry Pratchett's discworld. I like the colours, the detail you put into it. I am confused by the base of the creature's neck, however. Great piece overall.
Elissimo - very well executed. Also, your new coloring technique seems to work Definitely in the top three.
Menelaos - cool worm, almost as if it's being born from the moon. Brings Freudian thoughts to the surface .
Josu - cool concept. I think your drawing would really benefit from some colour perspective (bleaker colours further away from the viewer). That would make it seem less flat.
Draught - I like the colours, although, like my own, it reminds me of a dinosaur, and not so much an alien.
Mik2121 - Is it a creature, or a machine? (I see wires between leg segments, reminding me of gas pressured machines).

in all great work everyone!

I voted for Steve. I particularly like the choice of perspective and lighting, overall it's an appealing concept.

Harmageddon and Duman(for the WIP thread), thank you for your kind words. Looking at the others though, I realise I could have done more with colour, action and perspective to make mine more interesting... Next round

i voted for steve summers altho i gotta say that it was a really close on with reymus's crit

i dont choose pics by their rendering cuz it is not reflecting the essence of the pic. steves pic i think really makes me feel like this crit really lives there unlike most of the pics in here that i think incomparison to steve's makes you feel like they can no longer stay beneath the surface of the moon and with that view to earth makes it look more alien and dont get me wrong it is well rendered

awsome round every one
