I thought I'd make a thread of a project I started quite some time ago, but never got around to completing. Now that I finally have some time, I'll try and finish it. Sorry that this is starting half way through - I don't have images of the earlier stages of development, but will document everything from here on.
The idea behind the concept is a futuristic form of Home Defence; a robotic that guards your home day and night, eliminating intruders without question. All that's left is for the mess to be cleaned up by the home's occupants!
The wireframes below show the basic idea behind the docking bay for the robot (to recharge itself when not in use). The Sentrybot folds in on itself, allowing it to automatically insert into the charging dock (situated discretely on the wall of the home it guards).
There is also a basic clay render showing where the model's development is at the moment. I intend to go back over it piece by piece, adding more detail and then texturing it.
Let me know your thoughts....
After a bit of a delay I'm back at this. Here's the first element of the Sentrybot that I've focused on updating and detailing (the centre body/gun mount). I know it's pretty boring, but this stuff has to be done ....
hey, looking sweet! I like how the parts fit together. It reminds me of a smoke detector, which is another form of home protection/alarm.
How does this robot move and fire/sound the alarm? It's a little unclear at the moment, but I understand that this is still a WIP. Keep up the good work
After a long time, I'm returning to this WIP, and will hopefully get around to finishing it this time! I was side-tracked by another project, which I've now finished ( Super Hatchback Concept Car).
For this project, I'm planning on doing a short animation to show the SentryBot in action. Basically it will be the robot in a firing range, demonstrating it's abilities.
Over the past couple of days I modelled the environment for the firing range, which you can see below. The SentryBot is the circular object housed within the wall, visible on one of the renders. Here it is in it's folded form, charging itself within it's docking bay. When activated the robot will emerge, unfold, and begin navigating the firing range.
Nightblue - To summarise, the purpose of the SentryBot is to quietly patrol a property, and to detect if there are any intruders. It then simply eliminates them via the gun mounted on it's underside. Quick and (relatively) painless.
Let me know your thoughts.
I like everything I see so far. Especially the textures of the robot and the lighting of the corridor.
I've been developing the animation over the past few weeks, and am getting to the point of completion. I thought I'd post some stills here for feedback and crits - please let me know your thoughts and any words of wisdom you can offer.
Haha, excellent! The video is excellent and the sound design equally so, I loved the 'target eliminated' as it flew away from the cameraman it'd just shot! The rotating green light on the back reminded me of an evil xbox or something ;0)
Only crit I might make is to reduce the time between when the bot appears and when it starts shooting the targets to keep the pacing up, but that's only a minor thing and I'm no expert at editing!
Excellent stuff ;0)
The Dark Power - Ha, ha, thanks The length of time between the bot emerging from it's dock and actually starting to shoot was something I also questioned. But I wanted to give a proper walk-around of the robot and environment, as this whole animation is basically a showpiece for my design work. Also, this video is supposed to be showing a 'test presentation' by OCP, so the guy filming is wanting to gush all about the technicalities of the thing before it gets blasting away. So, i figured I'd just leave it in. But your comment is duly noted nonetheless
