Hey guys, thought id try my hand at an actual "painting" as such, so i went rummaging in my bedroom for inspiration, when i came across one of my old warhammer figures. so i drew him out in photoshop, made up a background and began to render. i got, for me, quite far into it, however im grinding to a halt and was wondering if someone could give any helpful tips/advie in how to continue.
I was also wondering how to further the sense of combat, atm it seems as if theres a crazed officer leading a warband and absent mindedly firing his gun, any tips/suggestions welcome.
Bullets going towards the figures, explosions in the background. Currently the figures are tight together, making it feel claustrophobic, which may be good depending on what you are going for. the background could use a lot of work, and it could help convey the battle you want. I would suggest some type of conflict in the sky, or some more figures fighting. I should say that I do not know anything about Warhammer other than it involves tiny figurines, but if by space marines the ones from Halo (sorry for being stereotypical) fit your description then I would suggest you observe something that resembles what you want. Movement is a huge part of battle, and if I go back to Halo I would point out that they are very mobile, spread out, and we usually see what they are engaging (enemy). What I think you did very well was the muzzle flash, and the blurr effects. Don't be afraid to do a few sketches and studies.
