Great studies, sarah, very cleqan as always. The portraits looking good as well.
If you're doing the balance stuff don't use posemaniacs. Why? Because they don't have any weight. It's good for warming up, but then use real models or if you can't get any, try to browse gymnastic videos and the like on you tube. This way you can feel your figures much better, as you can see them in motion.
I can do some with you todqay, if you like
Just keep it up.
@ north pole: Thank you! I´ll try a different way soon, someone told me it would be cool to render all muscles as they are with light and shadow. Want to see if that works for me...
@ AvisNocturna: Stoped imediately and went on sketching from life.
@ Melfey: Thanks! You should update more often, didn´t hear from you for a while.
I should have posted much earlier...
I´m still on that comicstars contest, now there is only me and one more person in the bet. The final round is in september and I hope so much I can make it. Have to work muuuch harder, I guess...
But I´m on it.
Did a lot at the contest workshops. Tried storyboard, conceptual character design and so on... hardcore drawing! But I can´t show the stuff as I didn´t get back everything. Maybe they´ll upload it, then I can show it off.
But let´s start with a friend of mine´s dog:
I went to zoo with a friend I know since the contest. So I sketched some animals.
The fish, the bird, the monkeys and especially the dolfin were hard to sketch as they moved very, very quickly. Also, the koala sleeped the whole day exept from when we came to draw...
And some very loose figure drawing exercises. Did those very quickly.
Cool zoo sketches! I like them a lot, the camel is great..
Post more stuff and good luck for your contest
Hi! I'm trying to see why you say your drawings look flat, but I can't . I think you've got a good sense of volume and perspective. The studies on post 60 are very well done, and I love the turtle on 65!. Maybe you just need a little more patience with values. Take your time to compare the degrees between the areas and be gentle with the pencil.
Your penciling is almost perfect!
My Sketchbook [ACTUALLY UPDATED!]
I have 800 posts
Здравей! (means Hello in my language)
Very good start! It is a humble SB without many drawings but I should say that you have a very accurate hand and you patience will lead you to a big improvement if you keep that way. The studies are really fine. I do not know you age but your skills are getting better and every page is proof for that. I must say that the drawings from life are very well made. You should draw from your mind most of the time .
May I give you an advice. Start Burne Hogarths Human Anatomy book. It will help you gain a certain feeling about the muscle reaction in different pose of the limbs. It was my pleasure and thank you for visiting my humble SB! Take care - George

very nice sketches you have here on your last page! i really like the foot ones and the flamingo
on your first page i really like those sketches too, the ones with the negative space in particular and the fly on your 2nd page has a nice defined body with highlight!
i also dig those anatomy studies of the legs and the posemaniac job!
you have quite a varied study going on here!!
have a nice day~
@Demodeus: Thank you very much! Smiling camels are coool. XD
@AvisNocturna: Miss you. Q___Q
@Konstruktion: You´re right... I guess you can never deny where you come from. I love comic and will probably never really get away from that even if I try. Thank you very much anyway!
@Raúl.Arbeloa: Compared to you, I definitly see why. Thank you very much, I think you´re right with the values. I purchased a pencil that will give me a better darker tone. I felt like my pencil can´t go darker. Let´s see if that works!
@chuck18mp: Thank you! I´ll try to get better every day!
Thank you very much for commenting. I am 21 years old. And yees, I should do more. I do, but that is comicwork and I don´t want to show it as I fear this is not the right community for that.
Thank you for the recomentation, I didn´t get that one but Dynamic Figure Drawing. It helps a lot! And I´ll do more from mind. The next two drawings are.
@BlackDelphin: Than you! I´ll try to do more and more!
So, here are two fantasy figure drawings from mind. I used a few pictures of snakes and deers/horses for reference, but most still is from mind. Hope you like it.
And I´ll be back in bed, feel like I got sick...
hey, you have a solid bunch of work here, good to see all the studies and life sketches keeps you loose hehe.
the two drawings above are pretty good, there´s a sense of motion and expression, but, you somehow stopped applying the same feeling to the faces. these are very neutral.
Adjust them a bit and you have something great hehe
coooool improvement!! just one note: on the last character, the right hand (vom betrachter aus ) is tooo large. its actually as big as her face, and thats very unusual, however,
bist du die katanasoul von mexx? deine skizzen sehen auf jedenfall danach aus! so liebevoll wie alles ausgearbeitet ist ich finde deine letzten beiden bilder grandios! das zebraren ist toll *__*
allgemein gelingen dir tiere unheimlich gut!
ich behalte dich im auge :3 *watch*
Really nice pencil works in here and your studies are awesome too keep posting!
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all art and science.
Nice drawings. will they become paintings?
@Darkside: Thank you very much. I see your point and reworked them a bit. When I am finished, I will post them again and hope it became better.
@HumbleEgo: Than you! ^^
@jatherip: You´re right with that... Uff, I will need to correct that... Thank you very much for making me notice that!
@Hanny Honeymoon: Japp, die bin ich. ^^ Dass man das an Skizzen schon sieht... Sehr spannend! Ich freu mich!
@Melfey: Here it is! I haaave to speak with you, gonna write you a note. *hihi*
@latigid: Thanks a lot. I will!
@Max Challie: Thank you very much! I fear most of them won´t as I lack skill as a painter. I am very bad at colours and light at the moment and it just won´t become better. I hope I can change that in the future!
You thought I was dead, but I am indeed not. I was more that busy durring the last few months, but now I can actually show and tell why.
First of all, I got a contract with a comic publisher and am working on that now. I musn´t show my work yet, but stay tuned.
And yesterday, I had my entry exam at the design college in Münster. I always wanted to study illustration there, and now at my first try, I made it!
So I´ll show you my exam works. I had to bring a portfolio, too, which I will show later as it is all fixed on big sheets of cardboard.
So here I go:
The topic was "What does the egg have to do with the suitcase?"
We had four hours of time.
First of all, we had to draw... Well, an egg and a suitcase (which had to look like that).
Than, after brainstorming, six illustrations about similaritys and differences.
All brush pen an watercolour.
Then, we had to put down six ideas with typography. I never did that before!
And at the first day of the two-day-exam, I was at the zoo and (about) sketched away my worries. It was one day of waiting whether my portfolio was good enough to let me through and do the exam on day two.
Brush pen again, and very fast moving animals.
Thanks for your words, your sketchbook is great
Hard work pays off, you get what you put in.
Nice work in here, you have a very cute style, the animal sketches look greatm nice smooth rendering quality and good lines. I feel your character work could have a little stronger anatomy knowledge and posing - I find quick 30sec pose sketches help a lot with this!
@Harvest-ink: You´re welcome!
@MoKhi: Thank you, your words are very cheering! I fear my coloured stuff is horrible, I´m glad that there still is lineart which I feel more confident about...
@AlexTooth: Thanks a lot! I will definitely work on that!
I guess I really need help...
I can´t use colours, whatever I do, it completely sucks. I´m already getting depressed on that.
Tonight, I tried to do a still life. If anyone knows what I can do, please tell me. (If it does not include buying a new computer with adjustable screen colours and less lags when working...)
A friend of mine and I especially argued about that light in the shadows. (That white on the right side of the apple.) She said there could never be highlights in shadows, which I believe, but it WAS there. I´m sure I saw it right. What could that be?
i agree..."highlights" in shadows FTW! but, they're not TRUE highlights...they'll never be as light as something on the light side of the object. nice work.
@ jatherip: I´ll definitely keep an eye on that, thank you very much!
@ purb36: Thank you! I think these areas seem so bright as saturation is so low... Maybe that´s it.
Wohooo~~~ CHOW this time! I try to do a pencil drawing. My digital work still sucks and I kinda feel ashamed.
I wanted The Morrigan to be bald- headed first, but I tried black hair later. I think it fits her more.
Hello there Katanasoul!! haven't bin here in quite a while and i am so glad to see you post such lovely pencil work once more!!
Your two characters from MIND are really awesome!!!
And i see your CHOW coming along nicely too perhaps that left breast of hers is a bit off?
Thank you for your help down in my sketch book!! You really helped me fix her up even more, and i think she looks much more decent now, thanks to you
Good luck with your little war goddess.
@BlackDelphin: Thank you very much! You´re always welcome, I´m happy if I can help. Just ask me if I can help you. And thank you for your advice, I guess that needs to be corrected.
Here are two self portraits, one done tomorrow and one today night. I think the one I did today is better (which I think is good), and I am actually more postive now that there is some hope left with me and colour. Let´s find out...
Yesterday. It´s actually too orange, I feel. (Even if it was pretty orange, my walls are painted orange by the way...)
Rendering seems to help... I do my best to get at it. Still now I see I forgot doing eyelashes... Well, It´s 3:23 in the morning now, forgive me.
