I have found a portrait of a good friend of mine, which I did some time ago ...
Just wanted to show you so here we go
And the first selfportrait in a different angle.
It doesn't look like me at all ... so it should be failed ^^
but somehow I quite like it ... first try with toned paper
FAST ART Thanks And I will!
Loomis, this morning
You are studying hard some really nice stuff in here love the hand studies too i gotta get my drawing hand cranked up!!
nice studies. keep it up!
Yeah it's hard to get the likeness right with self-portraits, but it's more important that you get the general form and value right so don't consider it a failure just because it doesn't look like you ^^ Anyway, great studies dude. I love the first page and all the loomis studies and head studies. Try to stay in the habit of doing studies of that nature between your imaginative work. If you keep going back to those studies over time, you'll be able to extract more and more information to improve your drawings from imagination. Keep up the good work!
hah! Good stuff! And also its good you found your way into the loomis books! They are soooo great ! You can learn alot from them.
Keep up the hard work and youll improve in no time
For the big selfportrait you made watch out for the construction of the skull..
Likeness will come in time,, just keep doing them and then BAM! .. its like looking into a mirror! And its also quite normal to stylize yourself a little when you are doing a selfportrait.. You mind tends to do that
Anyway! Keep up the good work!
Looks like your dedication is taking you in the right direction. Good job. Keep those studies coming.
Cool studies. Nice improvement since start. My only advice - study more
Thank you all for the lot of replies here
That realy motivates me to post more often and consequently to draw and paint more!
Thisisbiblo Thank you
dierat Yeah thanks for the tip! This sounds ok for me Hope to improve that way yeah
rogerb Yeah loomis helped me a lot and I am still in the beginning of the books and my journay Hope that I can show more self portraits soon.
realextension Thanks, I will
GeoD Yeah thanks mate! That seems to be the best thing to improve! Thanks for that motivation, gonna do an b/w environment or some posemaniacs studies (or both ^^) now!
Two 10 or 15 minute portraits I did in the train to/from on friday.
Tried to give him some *what shall I call that grey? tone? ^^*
Hey, good start. Loomis is a great place to learn but you shouldn't just copy his stuff but come up with own poses and so using his ideas. I think your efforts will pay off, keep on drawing
TedNindo Thanks for the tip. I recognised that I always copied ... but I felt more "secure" like this ... I'll try to do both, studies from loomis but also own poses from now. With heads I have tried some yet ... must do more
Here just a little wip of a master head.
I am kinda happy: After that head the next ~10 will all be carravagio studies
great SB Eiki your observational studies are really good!
Keep on drawing
Thanks mysocksrock your nick rocks by the way
So here I finished the head .. played a bit with layermodes ...
And one sheet of 60 sek posemaniacs
Some stuff and I tried too draw a still life with a champagne bottle ... but it looks like a bottle full of iron ... so many reflections but no "transparency" ...
Here we go
Totally love your progress, your studies are much more fluid and dynamic, loving that. I'm also loving how you're not drawing 'pretty' people that are perfectly shaped Drawing people you see is a good way to learn, so props for doing that. Keep up the great work!
I'm lovin' the progress in this SB -- can't wait to see the finished "Family" pic!
Heads and hands are super-hard (and kind of important), so draw draw draw.. Keep at it, don't stop!!!
Look, see! Nifty art! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99803
Hey! Check out my blog here
kuebiko Thanks. The past days I hesitated drawing people in the train ........ Not good Next occassion I will draw again!
AmontilladoAg Thanks for your post and the motivation! Yeah I want to see the family final too :p will work at it!
Today some older eviro attempts ^^, one new head (not really finished but theres some things I like) and some pages of my current sketchbook. Each page looks so different atm
Hey and wanted to show you the cover of my current sb. just doodled on a paper .... but I liked it xD
Feel free to comment and criticize It will help me I am sure, thanks
some fun with earliest frankentsteins monster concept I started ^^
And on page of my current sketchbook.
But the pencil always smears over .... and the lines vanish oder look bad -.- ......
Do you have a good tip what to do against that? In other sketchbooks that stuff looks sooooo great .... I don't know what I can do
Thanks for tips
Worked about 2 hours more on that family piece (men I am slow!).
Worked primarily on the women at the right and on the plate at the bottom.
Darkened the wall a bit (bottom) to draw the attention more to the center of the pic (the family) I hope. Must highlight the very center in the very end I guess.
Next time I'll flip the canvas and try to fix all that mistakes I spotted when I checked the flipped image today ... it didn't look good -.- The original side I work on looks much better aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh ^^
Bah! Here we go! Must draw and paint. I'm away
Now that I am looking at the family pic here on my laptop I realise that in some areas the colors look soooo ugly.... The dog looks black and blue "dotted". On my desktop pc where I paint it looked much better ....
Is there any possibility to get the "right" colors? Does anyone know what I mean and has a tip how to work against that problem?
Thanks for your help! Cause it really annoys me... in other threads everything looks great as well on the lappy as on the desktop ... but my work differs soooo much -.-
For getting the color right, try studying some master artists who used a similar color scheme, such as Rembrandt.
Great to see all this hard work, keep it up!
Hey thanks for your reply Liffey
This family study is a master copy, but the problem isn't that I cannot get the colors right but that it looks different on my desktop and on my laptop...
On my desktop pc were I work I would say that the colors are "right" (perhaps not perfect but quite cool I think ... But on the laptop it looks completely different ....
And that's not good .... does anyone know where this effect comes from or what I could do?
Sorry, this post again without something to show (I am not at home atm)
But this problem here really bothers me ......
Thanks for your help
The only way to help is to calibrate your monitor. You can use this free tool to help you adjust your brightness and contrast (and I think there are other free tools and software out there that you can use; I haven't really looked), or you can buy a piece of hardware that will calibrate your monitor for you (like this one here). Here is an article that talks about different ways of calibrating your monitor.
dierat Thanks for the tip. But perhaps it isn't too bad to have so different monitors, because I might see problem zones, which I wouldnt have seen on my "painting monitor"
Unfortunately not much to show.. but a random doodle and some still lifes....
Here we go.
Only one head, one value study, and one something
one new head and some random scribbles ...
one new head. Didn't scan any other stuff atm ..
Here we go
