Chow 153 :: Dr WHO: The FINAL DOCTOR

ROUND #153 :: Dr WHO: The FINAL DOCTOR
DESCRIPTION

Dr WHO: The FINAL DOCTOR: A TWO week CHOW

He has been through them all. His lives burnt up through the aeons of time, and The Doctor has reached his final regeneration. There will be no more.

Design the Doctors final form. His last appearance before time claims him, or doesn’t…

With David Tennant stepping down and Matt Smith, the youngest ever actor to play the Dr stepping up to fill his shoes, decide where his regenerations might lead. It could be simple or complex, so go with your imagination. However, try and keep it within the Whoniverse, the world of Dr Who. And remember, this is a TWO WEEK ChOW.

I've seen a lot of Dr. Who's come and go so this could be interesting. I hope I have time to join this one.

Nice topic once again! It will be interesting to see what everyone will come up with to embody the last doctor...
I need to stay away from Christopher Eccleston though, hehe.

Hmmm, I have never actually heard of doctor Who. So, if I do this, I'll need A LOT of research. Don't know if I could do the character justice.

Prolly because of the Dallas WS, KonnA, I know Daestwen is going at least, as well as several participants here, I would imagine

I'm so over this, even if it feels kinda like blasphemy, heh.....

And I also need to get Tennant out of my head. He's ended up being THE Dr Who in my head...

My other favorite is the 4th Doctor... Tom Baker. He is the one I grew up watching on PBS as a kid.
Aside from him being a brilliant Doctor... my reasons for liking David Tennant are not quite so innocent. haha!

Yes, it's because of Dallas, so I won't be around on monday next week, so it's much easier to do a two-parter.

Also, I have something special lined up for ChOW in time for dallas, so keep your eyes peeled!

does anyone know if the doctors have become younger and younger at every new doctor, or is it just a coincidence, if that is the case then maybe the last doctor may only be a young child, and thats why there will only be 13 doctors, or maybe even 13 will be the unlucky age.

I don't think he's become consistantly younger, but it has turned out that way more or less. However, I think the way Dr Who is marketed these days has changed the way actors are selected to play him. A younger more dynamic Dr fits in with the zeitgeist. The Doctor has to be 'sexy' now. We're unlikely to ever get a sixty plus year old William Hartnell again as the Doctor. And yet the most action packed Dr was probably Jon Pertwee, who also did most of his own stunts, and he was about 50 when he took over.

I am not too familiar with the show, but does the Doctor have any special powers? I browsed through the Wiki description, but could not find any.

If I recall that actually is one of the side effects of the regen process...getting younger....I just can't recall if it applied to all Time Lords or not. Though I wouldn't say that the Doctor was an ordinary Time Lord anyway. It will be hard to get Tom Baker out of my mind as well..."The Mind of Morbius" was the first episode I had ever seen....kinda stuck.

At least you should recognize my avatar, eh Daray?

Hmmm, is he in any relations to a Sean Pertwee? The actor who's been Dog Soldiers and Doomsday (besides a few other movies I've seen him in) - cuz, I really like Sean....he's got a rugged sexayness 'bout him.

Awright...enough of my schoolgirl crushes...I LOVE Dr. Who and am rather happy Tenant is stepping aside! I did like Christopher Eccleston's turn, though. Man, I remember catching the eps with either Tom Baker or Peter Davison in the role.

Lots to consider here........

Hahah, great minds and all that. Tom Baker exactly - I totally dig the long, striped scarf. Whenever I think of the Dr., I visualize Baker's version. All.the.time.

Oh My! Such a cool topic! but GAAAHHH! It's gonna be tough designing the final doctor and all, and I agree, the iconic scarf is one image that immediately strikes home when it comes to the WHO. Yet it's gonna be a blast seeing everyone's take on the good doctor

He's got two hearts, so presumably more stamina, has minor psychic/telepathic abilities, can absorb radiation, and a screwdriver that does just about anything from lighting candles to resonating concrete. Also he can McGuyver all kinds of random technology. (It goes ding when there's stuff.)

I don't think it's a side-effect of regeneration... as far as I know, the first couple forms stayed more or less in the same age range and then the 5th Doctor was much younger (hired on around 29?). Something like that. It's actually been suggested that the Doctor kind of sucks at regenerating-- that usually Time Lords had more control. Romana in the old series apparently
"tried on" a bunch of different forms before settling on one she liked. But the Doctor can't seem to do this. Which actually makes this topic much more fun, really.

I don't know if I'll try to do this one or not... on the one hand... Doctor Who omg. On the other... I'm not sure what I'd do. There's the temptation to do a very young Doctor, but... in my head the right age for the Doctor is Tennant, who's 37 or something like that. Mid-30's seems appropriate.

I think the only guideline here, really, is to come up with as wacky and eccentric a costume as possible. Because if you're not wearing celery, a 15-foot scarf, or a crazy overcoat, you clearly aren't cool enough to be the Doctor.

Last Dr. Who I watched was about 6 regens ago, so I've some catching up to do, though I suppose he's been a fairly constant character over the decades in terms of his basic personality. It's all the quirky details that made his various incarnations so interesting.

Gadzooks, all you whippersnappers who watched Tom Baker's Dr. as kids -- my kids watched Tom Baker!!! I feel decrepit...
