I'm looking for some constructive feedback. Is there anything I could do better or practice before I do my next portrait.
I've stopped short of finishing it (hair, ears etc).
If that was supposed to be Stephen Gerrard then you've captured the likeness very well.
Biggest problem for me is the mouth, the inside would never be all one shade f black like that. There would be a value for the sidewall, for the tongue, etc.
Also I think there would be more creases in the face especially around the mouth, if not in line then in tones.
It's not too bad, but for your next portrait, why not try painting value where you see it and avoid making a line drawing first?
(More like an impressionist approach than a comic book one).
I suggest this because this one looks like a shaded line drawing. Not that there's anything wrong with that style, but it might be good practice to break things down to values instead of facial features.
danlambert - I see what you mean about the lines on his face. I never thought of the mouth after I'd "finished" it so i'll go back to it. Thanks
Zirngibism - Yeah, you are right, It's def someting I'd like to add to my repertoire. It's just that I've never done it that way before, ah well, I'll give it a shot. Thanks a lot.
