I'm participating in Group Shows. The websites may need to update images but those are the right galleries. I believe contact info should be on the sites if you want to confirm my work showing. Oh oh, the sun is coming up. gotta hit the sack...

Always a fan of your work and this one is stunning as usual. The shadows on the raised hand make this extra special for me

Wow!....your treatment and control of watercolors is truly amazing and inspiring. I love the softness of the images (this one and A Moon of My own), as well as the film-grainy-esque appearance.Very nicely done.

I love your warped realism. What kind of reference are you using for your art?

Sweet image. I dig the subtle negative shapes of the left hand and the daringly-designed, yet quiet, nuances of your overlapping plane-shapes, like the stretching dark triangle tip that reaches up and nearly touches the tear duct of the girl's eye... generates nice tension. You're really in the zone on these last few.
Thanks for showing and good luck with your show! kev

Awesome, its very inspiring to see solid traditional work that looks great and more than holds its own among so many digital paintings.

I'm not quite certain why I like this one (apart from the impeccable technique, of course). the motif itself is not just nice-nice, but has some sort of deeper quality, sticks to the mind. I need to think about this more...
I've started painting with acryl on arches only this year, I love the medium, though I have a long way to go. what grain do you use? Last edited by Uli; December 13th, 2008 at 04:31 PM.. |

Thanks ya'll. To answer to some questions. Yes I used a model. Had a friend kind enough to pose for me. I always use a model. The tough part is not becoming a slave to your photo reference. But I always recommend using reference and doing your research prior to painting. I think without the model I would miss out on a lot of the subtle details which are some of my fav parts. I've been painting on Arches 300 lb hot press(although I don't like hot press at lighter weights) I'm sure any quality wc paper would work fine.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if it's the same in English as in German/french- is your paper satine or grain fin or-- ?
I have to thank you again, because I just realized that it was your blog that made me start with acrylics on arches, about half a year ago before I came to CA. You showed your technique there and that was a big help and inspiration. I keep practising :-) |

There's a great story about Pablo Picasso. Some guy told Picasso he'd pay him to draw a picture on a napkin. Picasso whipped out a pen and banged out a sketch, handed it to the guy, and said, "One million dollars, please." "A million dollars?" the guy exclaimed. "That only took you thirty seconds!" "Yes," said Picasso. "But it took me fifty years to learn how to draw that in thirty seconds." teh sketchbook teh portfolio |
