Vector Redux!

Hi, hi!

This will be my vectorful sketchbook! With pencil sketches too!

I finally joined CA and DSG a week or so ago and while I'm drawing stuff in there (stuff that's better than I've ever done!) I don't get critiques much... Besides, I need to do more!

I do feel a bit like the odd one out because I work best in Illustrator... and my ideas are kinda funny even when the subject is serious... however! I've spent a lot of time trying to find my own style and while it's still evolving, it's definitely different! :)

And... I want to do kiddy things! Kid's books or something :)

Uh, I made my avatar... and that robo-dog's from a DSG. I normally don't do outlines but I was going quickly.

Undead fairy tale. I'm proud of this. My first time I was able to do really good shading! The borders bother me though, so I hope you can help me there

Awright! Anatomy sketchies. I learn it then start to abstract some 'cos I haven't really figured out how to draw faces in my style from the front. Side and 3/4 are best!

Alright, I'm going away for a week but I'll make sure to draw bunches and I promise, I'll make something really finished again! It just takes time I don't have. So, for now, rough char sketches!

I'll prolly do this in Illustrator... Robots!!!


And this I'd like to do in watercolor... but we'll see how that works out :o

I'm back from California! But... I have no internet D: and the scanner busted the colors. And I'm posting this from a Starbucks ._.

Oh well I haven't done colored pencil... since... two years ago 'cos i had to. Before that, I was really tiny and it was the medium of choice, along with crayons... but it's what I had! These are both book prospects so prepare for story times~

There was a lady, an artist we met in California, who was legally blind but still kept going with her art! She told us a story about this bluebird she'd developed a relationship with: It would come in and perch on her shoulder and eat from her hand... but after ten years she decided to move to another house... so she told the bird her new address if she wanted to come find her! 6 months later, she did! So she comes every day and rings the chimes to tell her she's there. It's true! It's adorable. I want to make a book out of it. Hence the drawing.



My mom keeps showing this book around I made in 4th grade... I guess it's got charm since y'know, I was all young and stuff, and I illustrated it all... POORLY. Geh. Well I decided I'd remake it one day. It was about a boy who lost his teddy bear. And had a dog

For a portfolio website. Funny animals! Hee... Narhwal... I love the illustration bit (and the quote things!) but the overall layout is kiiiiiilling me. Hopefully someone can help out?

Also, somehow I don't have the picture for the links page where monli's (orange elephant) in his space helmet and rocket pack... I guess these weren't the finals... Well, if I find it I'll replace it! And I see the pelican typo

This is my idea for plant faeries! Nerd plant... faeries. They like video games! So they play games on their magic gameboys!

The nerd of life plays tetris with plant cells (they're rectanglyish) to build the plants! The nerd of... death? He plays breakout (also with plant cells) to kill 'em! For fall.

Hm... I think I have good ideas... but I have trouble translating them 'cos they're so involved and random For instance:

"Rogue Healy-bot! He's good for group healing, 'cos he's so big! He went a little overboard... and short-circuited... so now he's roaming through parks vacuuming up everything in sight.

Uh. He sucks things up and then they pop out his head healed."

See, it almost works out but it seems like I'd have to make an entire comic strip about it or something... Well, I don't know, really. Maybe it's good for kids books after all 'cos you're explaining it in the story! Maybe?

Previous schoolwork, sketches I want to remember to vector, and my jaw x-ray! I've had a whole lot of surgeries since 2005 so now I have a titanium plate, 2 metal teeth and a bunch of cool-lookin' scars! The x-ray is cool too, and I'd like to figure out a way to draw something incorporating it... but I don't know what! Suggestions would be lovely

And how do you make thumbnails actually thumbnail-esque? Just resize on my own?

I like what you've done so far, your vector characters look better than your drawings for sure [sorry, that might not be what you want to hear].

I've been trying to get into vector images and unfortunelty I can't help you as you're more experienced than myself.
Any particular tutorial sites and stuff you can recommend would be great.

lol That's about right. See, I gravitated towards Illustrator because I can't draw straight lines. I get all gestural doodly... so anything in pencil, or colored pencil, is either practice or a general base for Illustrator-work. Until I actually do some in watercolor... but we'll see how that goes

This tutorial is the one I go by, since it's all flat, while this tutorial is super awesome but it makes my brain hurt.

Uh... I just got back from England and I'm severely jet-laggy... and I have to pack for schooooooool D: and I didn't draw a whole lot... but I did good ideas for a book! I'll do monsters... The DSG monster thing made me think of that... but I don't think I'll get the chance to do too much 'til I'm moved into school, so vector fun is still hiatus-y...

My brain's a bit wonky. I'll fix up what I meant to say tomorrow.

Alright! So I don't really have much of anything... but I am at least settled! I'll try to catch up with the DSGs but they might get mad at me if I bump all the completely finished topics (and the new guy locked all the semi-old ones o.O)... so I'll put them here 'til I'm ready to go full speed!

Here's a character sketch I did for "A Gothic Woman with Living Hair". I'd done the final sketch before figuring out her clothes... so I figured I should maybe rough those in. Also, I was bored in a class.

Not gonna put the final sketch up here, it's too rough. Will do when it's done! I think it'll look cool... and might try in watercolor... but Illustrator first!

I don't have much of anything scanned so here is a costume sketch! I want to be Lola from Charlie and Lola. I want to be her when she's dressed up like the sun!

Been a bit busy with school. And the no internet This was inspired by the DSG Oxygen King~ with his oxygen crown~ Bah, I'll have to study glass... Anyway, he'll be underwater with a scuba mask, swimming along~ I had him running around with servant boys carrying his oxygen tanks but it's more dynamic with just him. I have to do value studies for it, along with 2 other ideas, so I'll put those up when I finish them! Also, once I scan the other sketches they'll go up too.

Second one is the tweaked version, if you couldn't tell The first one looks like the giraffe has a bangin' beard! :love: I'm totally gonna give one of my characters a beard like that one day

Err... yup! I was supposed to post this stuff earlier but I got super busy. Also, there's a skateboard design. It's Thor! He is propelling you with his mighty lightning! And a robot design too. And some more robots I drew in crayon lol I like robots

Oh hey. I just found the finished ghost story thing. My school's in Savannah, supposedly the most haunted town in America or something... so we did a project on a ghost story. I chose the one of this little boy fell off a roof while chasing pigeons and impaled himself on the spiked fence. One spike was stuck in his head and they had to bury him with it still in there. Now for the spooky bit that someone mighta made up: kids sometimes talk to the fence, saying they see a boy sitting right where the missing spike is. Ooooh~ Anyway, I didn't really want it bloody, 'cos you know I get bored when I try to do serious things, so... tada!

By the way, this was the picture that set off my current style, the very first one I did in it. It happened by accident but I'm very happy it did!

In graphic design we have to do branding for a convention. Of course, I chose a robot convention! Er... the teacher said the logo was pretty good so it'd be hard to do... so I changed it to a family oriented event Here's logo ideas, I narrowed it down to the 3 big ones, and everyone liked the one on the left. I'll be making an entire family out of them. I'll scan it all later

Also, the Thor skateboard design I've started. Not done yet! There's no lightning! Of course, Thor has red hair, but he looked a bit too... Yosimete Sam and Lord of the Rings dwarf guy... so blond! Just like the comics.
