I wanted to approach the ecosystem in a more journalistic or nature guide fashion. The notes that go with each creature helped me come up with the creatures as I painted and drew them. I will be adding more here as I get them finished. ENJOY!!

My story involves the same location on Earth at two different points in time (some 65 million years apart). These creatures are a sampling of the low level vermin type creatures infesting the city of the civilization that existed 65 million years before present.
Here is my entry...
And here are a few references that i used as starting points...
I would have loved to spend more time on this, and submit a few more designs, but unfortunately i've been both lazy and unmotivated, as well as busy with work :p ! Maybe next time though, as this exercise has taught me alot (both technically, and time management wise)!
Each creature's background was developed along the way along with some research...but looking at everyone's entries, I missed out on designing my 5th creature which was the microscopic organisms that the Coral Isopod picks up in the seagrass...a more sluggish/crustacean alien creature, along the lines that other entrants have conceived...the other people's posts are fantastic! I recently started a new job...so I was limited in time in pumping out more thumbnails, so I could only get four up. This was a fantastic activity and really got me back on track. well done everyone!

After finding two pages from the presumed lost logbook of Tom Inglesson, a research team under leadership of Sir Jonathan Kingsly went down into the deep in the centre of the Tobacan sea to explore and find out what was true about the forgotten tale of the Tenterticuan.

I first watched the BBC documentary to get an idea of how deep sea creatures look like but then created a not so deep ecosystem. I imagined that part of the Utopia was made up of farms where water plants were grown as food and oxygen supply. You can see the results of the documentary and a rough image of the farm in the sketches. I then started thinking about what creatures could live near these farms, trying to keep them believable and coherent.

Background info on the underwater world:
This world is on a planet in a galaxy unknown to men at this point in time. Basically it is a society similar to Canada, in the sense that it is a land for immigrants. It has been built only 300 years ago. Species from around the universe come here, and pay obnoxious amounts of money to stay in this underwater Utopia. It has been built and ran by some of the richest and most talented individuals from around the universe. The underwater world is filled with a certain mixture of air that most species from around the universe agree with. There are certain cities however, that are filled with different types of water, for immigrants that don't use air, but still want to experience life in the encased underwater cities.
War is never a problem, poverty or hunger is never a problem, the government is never a problem, in fact, there really are no real problems here.
The creatures here are mostly harmless, aside for the Elephant whale of course.
The Elephant Whale is the most dangerous creature found in this underwater world, and also one of the rarest. Besides being almost impossible to kill while it is underwater, it is also the most delicious meat found on this planet. Not many will ever get to try it, seeing as how rare it is to see the elephant whale, let alone kill it somehow. Many hunters dedicate their whole lives to trying to hunt down one of these creatures, and those few that succeeded were able to make a great living for the rest of their lives when they sold the body of the dead elephant whale.
This sea horse is a very popular way of transport when moving around outside of the underwater city. The horses can't deal with air, so the passengers must put of their diving gear, and dive down into the aquariums built for these creatures and strap themselves onto the horses underwater. The aquarium has doors that open to let the horses and their passengers both in and out. The horses can be controlled by a wheel, as their nervous system responds to it's movements.

1. Ablablara - Every civilization needs light to develop itself. This tiny fish was a blessing for the first settlers, who arrived to build Undersea Utopia. Nowadays they keep Ablablaras in the special water-glasses, to light up the darkness of a deep water. Stomach of full fish is producing special extremely illuminating substance.
2. Batooro - this word means "eye". This small animals are bred on a plenty of undersea farms, because of theirs eye shaped excrescence. Like the snails who have got their shells, Batooros have got their "eye". Of course it is only an imitation and it is a delicacy of Utopia's inhabitants
3. Aroru - Every city have got its communication and transport. Tamed Arorus are perfect for this kinds of jobs. It can take all families on trips but also it is able to move all houses!
4. Gagoo - Very cute and sweet creature. This animal is favourite pet in the whole Utopia. It loves to play games with children. Gago swims using mainly it's huge ears.
5. Kerheto - Incredibly hard-working animal. It helped first settlers to dig tunnels in undersea mountains. Nowadays it's main task is finding resources under the ground.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge..."
I wanted to go ahead and provide a little something and the names kinda speak for themselves. All my prototypes are predators. Number 3 & 4 can come out of the water for short periods of times. #2's tenticles can come out of the water with the head exposed to the air but still must retreat back into the water before the skin surface and tenticles dry up. #3 comes out of the water similar to that of a flying fish.
The story is that in the near future, our people discover a water-covered world that is populated by fantastic creatures and beings. Here are few of the creatures that they discovered and named.

great stuff already. here's mine, enjoy.
Here's what I managed to get done... a few scribbles in my sketchbook and a speedpaint... not nearly as much as I was hoping for.... I got a little too busy. I wrote that I wouldnt post this in the final section but thought I might as well... so here it is again.
The Island Giant
These slow moving giants follow the warmer climates around the globe. They live for hundreds of years and can measure in kilometres. The shells of these creatures have layered slates which happen to be perfect foundations to build on for our DEEP inhabitants. Large Guard fish are always near and feed from the giants belly. In turn, they protect the beast and its tenants.
here's one of my inhabitants... http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1214819762
The Upside Down Jellyfish.
Animal domesticated by the CHOW (Central Homo-Oceanic Workers) Republic as an ATV (anemonal transit vehicle). The bouncing motion jelly is great at shock absorption. Natural bioluminescence is used as head lights and back light for the control panel. The animals are a favorite mode of transportation when tackling rocky terrain.
