Hey guys, this is just a simple little eye study that I did really quick. This is probably the one thing I struggle with the most and I just need some feed back from the experts. The lighting/shadows of the eye is where my troubles lie. I'm sure there are other problems with it, just let me know. So, thanks for any feed back.
Remember structure. The eyeball itself is a three-dimensional form set in a socket, with skin and muscle surrounding and covering it. Get a good idea of the internal anatomy and that will inform how you do your shading and linework. Hamm is a good choice, as is Loomis. Also do studies from anatomy books to give yourself an idea of the underlying structure.

"Skill is the result of trying again and again, applying our ability and proving our knowledge as we gain it. Let us get used to throwing away the unsuccessful effort and doing the job over. Let us consider obstacles as something to be expected in any endeavor; then they won't seem quite so insurmountable or so defeating." - Andrew Loomis
Ah! Excellent references! Thanks guys, I can't tell you how long I spent looking for a good reference guide and both of these are perfect!!!
The eye is one of those place where it really tends to be difficult to draw what you're actually seeing instead of what you sort of assume an eye looks like. Sit down with a mirror and force yourself to not make a single mark on your paper without closely observing first, draw what you see not what you know and spend twice as much time looking in the mirror than at your drawing, good luck
I like to think that it depends on that you want to accomplish, I agree with Nezumi, once you understand what you re trying to draw makes drawing easier. I would also suggest looking at some iris photos, since there are several types of it.

A good place to start is drawing a golf ball sized circle, and that will help you shape the skin around it.
click it, you'll be glad you did
