Hello...Help in making thes guys rock! I really want them in my portfolio..
Anything constructive will be appreciated
So to start it off, Sauron portrait...
It started while i was viewing Craig Mullins "Jungle Knight" illo.
Very low key lighting, so I thought I'd try it like that.
And this Venom was also studying the great Neville Page dvd about rendering flesh. What I noticed is the face is not in perspective and I think i really need something to reference the retractable teeth? And maybe it's more spidery like.
I mean some problems I'm aware, but I hope some more added criticisms before i take it to a finish would be nice.
Hmm.. it feels a li'l like you're on to the dressing up part before you really are done with the foundations. It needs more contrast in certain areas, for instance, Saurons eyes totally get lost and his horn kinda is disappearing too. Everything seems equally important in 1 area, so try to be more careful with where you place your brightest higlights. With Venom, all attention goes to his eyes, downplaying his more dangerous teeth.
There are some really neat textures and patterns here, but i personally think the portraits could be more dynamic/interesting. Why do you put these guys against a bg in the same/similar color? Why aren't you letting them stand out more? The textures are pretty, but they are also distracting and unnecessary.
Is there a reason you're hiding the heads in the background colours instead of showcasing them?
some highlights in key areas would really pop this out, dont think it would hurt!
(lips teeth eyes esp.)
did a quick paint over, practice for me, hope it helps a bit

reaxion's paintover worked wonders on your venom (who looks a little like spawn here)
i think you have some very nice drawing skills but are lacking some depth and color theory... just keep at it and you'll be fine..
