[ This one could easily be either Sci-Fi or Fantasy. ]
[ ...For that matter, it could easily be Character or Creature, but I only had room in the topic-header to choose one. ]
[ The beetle might be vertically or horizontally oriented, that's up to you. ]
[ The helmet look and carapace mods are entirely open to interpretation, of course. ]
[ I highly recommend a little image-searchery for some good beetle inspiration. ]
[ Get it on! ]
Character: HUMAN-SIZED BEETLE HAS CARAPACE MODIFICATIONS & WEARS A HELMET
I'm starting to feel the limitations of Flash.
You guys rock!
Goran back at you, I like the feeling of the piece, but the form gets mushy at points - understandable since this is a sketch group but anyway; I must nitpick!
Oh and Kafka makes me wet
Wasker Thanks, and the halftone filter in PS is hot
Niasyn I feel for you, couldn't live without PS or the like - can't you just download opencanvas; or get your hands on painter/PS etc? OR just do them on paper and scan/photo them in. (& I'm mostly speaking about old flash, since I haven't touched the stuff forever)
EDIT: mostly everything.
Well, I've got PS and painter here at work, I've just really been trying to get my flash skills up to snuff but it can just take soooo long to get the simplest things done in it. PS is just rough to use on my tabletpc in draw mode, I need to get an external keyboard.
I need to comment more. Rise to the participants.
Dan liimatta - Zesty goodness, although it's feet are too compact to support all of that robotic weight, unless it's partially flamingo ancestors help hoister it's quantity.
goran - It's outer shell is an earthworm haven.
Niasyn - Cartoonish reality, reminds me of the WB frog with his showsman's hat off to the audience. Writing a poem about a fruit fly - this may come to be used.
Keep doing you
Vulgar` The lower legs are pure iron baby; well anyway to be honest I somewhat missed out on the whole modification part until I was about to publish it here - so I quickly drew something in.
Still the smaller high-end aeroplane engines are fairly light, and since he lacks any real muscles in the shins it's pretty likely (that is it's all carapace/bone), at least more so then having a bloody engine implanted in your stomach!
anyways thank for the crit, they are always a pleasure, even if "aah" is pretty cryptic.
Hello Everyone. Great sketch forum you have here. I've been lurking for some time now, and today finally sketched something myself. Here goes:
I imagined them as a mount and an owner in Greg Stafford's brilliant fantasy world Glorantha, the carapace modifications are some runes the owner carved in there for strength and good luck. I guess I'll continue to participate in the future, cheers!
It's a Bombardier Beetle - GET It!?

careful, if you click on the sketch book link while you are viewing my ca sketchbook you might get stuck in a causality loop
Great sketches, everyone.
Awesome idea, Jack Frost.
Erm... well, I suppose I went more for "creature" rather than "character". Also, not really... human sized, at that. Uh...
didnt say what size the human had to be =).
with every attempt a little improvement, yay learning!
any input welcome to help me get better.
I intend to live forever - so far so good
Not a sign of communist gold.
Sketchbook! =] Check it out and be sure to leave a crit!
always wanted to cross a rhino beetle with artillery.
I need to do these more often.

Something I threw together. Turntables have been on the mind.
