Thanks meng! Yah, I dig that new Lupe track. I never really got into his album although I dug some of his mixtapes before. Andre 3000 is by far the best mc right now... every thing he's doing right now is pure gold! I'm digging Kanye's album and in turn it's made me really get into Finding Forever even more.
Pleeeeease let me make a plushie out of this dude. The one in the bottom left. I love him! I'll send you it.
& What markers/pens do you use, rather, what ones do you like the most? I love your crispy angular lines, i cant seem to get mine like that, they just look messy. I found one marker that makes good lines like that but it smells so awful that if I use it for more than 5 minutes I get lightheaded =(
I'd be honored and stoked if you'd make a plushie out of one of my characters! I know there's tons of work put into one of those. Please do!!!!
My favorite pen is the Micron 08... it's thicker but not so much that I can't do nice line variation and crisp corners. For some of my more 'realistic' drawings I've been using a black watercolour brush pen and I've found that I can get wicked crisp lines with that... if I'm being patient and cautious. ummm, other than that I dig a couple of calligraphy pens and a couple brush pens. I have a pencil case thing that has two sides... one side I keep all my tested and true pens/pencils and the other I keep my different ones that I'm not too sure about. That way when I'm doing something that I'm stoked on I can play it safe and if I'm just jamming I'll try some of the other ones. I'm finding that I'm moving towards more traditional brushes... prob going to get into inking with a brush.
i always liked the cartoony drawings .. love them ... i cant do even one .. o well but im happy that you put them here ... very inspiering
keep up the good work ... cheers
Dang you really are burning through pages,..
Same thing for me sometimes. It hits me one day what I want to do with art and then a couple days later I'll be thinking something totally different... always a mind struggle
Hey did you ever think about painting on shoes or other things besides paper and flat stuff?
m0uS3r - Thanks! You should try some more cartoony stuff once in awhile... it's really good for learning stuff about shapes and curves. Sometimes I actually find it harder to do than the more realistic stuff. I think just because it has to be super precise.
bhanu - Respect right back to ya. Go ahead and print em! I need to do the same with yours to learn some of the things you're doing.
Mr Joe - thanks, I'm moving towards painting other things as I write this. I bought a blank Baby Qee vinyl toy that I'm going to paint! But I need to buy some more painting supplies and I'm broke so it's taking me awhile.
I'm starting to figure out the direction I'm going and the only way I could do that was just work through it. Of course I'll prob feel like doing something completely different in a couple days, haha.
show us the way
your stuff is so fargin' good!
you make me miss krylon

not only are your characters original and different, your lineweight and composition is also great and pleasing to look at.
i really liked the piece about the paranoid contrasts!
the one thing i like to add.. i would like to see more raw stuff.. more dirty cardboxes torn apart and painted on them, more napkins full of lines..
the urban and honest feel your work has seems sometimes lost when drawn as a perfect vector.
i really like this kind of style in combination with ink splatters, a fingerprint, ash from a cigarette..
making tshirt stencils could be something..(allowing for a more personal style on every shirt)
iam glad your posting here!
Thanks for the support guys and gals! My 'real' job has been super hectic lately and I haven't been able to get too much drawing time in lately but I swear I'll have something new in the next couple days.
monstertree - thanks for stopping by and for comparing me to freakin Jeff Soto! I could seriously get lost in one of his paintings forever... each of his paintings truly feel like a whole new world. I'm moving towards acrylics and other traditional mediums but my hours at work just got hacked in half so I have a very tight budget for a bit.
andreas - I'm stoked you liked the Paranoid Contrasts piece! It's something that I really feel strongly about and I finally feel like I have a theme I could go for with actual paintings.
Also, you're totally right about getting a more gritty feel to my work. It's something that's gnawing at me and I'm commited to work on. It's just getting the supplies and room(I live in a tiny bachelour with my gf). I've really started to feel strongly about art and how it's a part of me... I used to kinda look at it as something for me to make a career out of and make some money. Stick with me and I promise I'll get there!
If anyone can suggest some cheaper acrylics supplies, I'd be stoked! Or like the essentials that I'd need.
Also I haven't recommened an album lately! I've been really listening to a lot of funk and soul lately. The Bamboo's are an excellent band that manage to mix funk, soul and hip hop together really well. Their new one is called Rawville and it's a blast to nod your head to and work away!
Looking good on those last updates.
thanks guys... I've done a tiny bit of everything. If you look back in this thread I showed a couple of the more fantasy/sci fi type stuff I used to do. I'm more about having fun and getting in a grove these days and just letting out what ever I feel like. Normally that has a slight cartoon or graphic feel to it.
So I did this design for a skateboard company in Serbia called Carrot Skateboards...
But like usual I've gotten screwed(about 90% sure). I sent him the design a couple weeks ago and he hasn't returned any of my emails or myspace msgs. I was super hesitant going into this one and I even went and found another artist that was doing designs for him to ask his opinion on the company. And I figured it'd be sweet to get some exposure somewhere like Serbia, even if I didn't end up seeing any money from it. It sucks because the next time someone else asks me to do a design for them I'm really not going to want to unless they show me the money first. Oh, and he has a design from Dalek on his myspace and I'm really starting to wonder if Dalek actually did give him the design. Ah well, another one bites the dust.
it pleases my eyes to open your book
man, you're the coolest cat on ca, nice tee!
