Hey Cavematty I've really enjoyed looking through your sketchbook. You are making great progress and I really like your fluid lines in your life drawings. Also love your summer vacation sketchbook, I'm always trying to do the same but the weather seems to always put paid to my efforts! Great to see what you can do though.
Edit: Hmm. Soon as you post, you see the weirdness... something weird with the way he's holding the bow, Like it intersects his raised knee. And his front arm is holding it wrong. Either that or the bowstring is caught in his armpit. Ha. Fail. Will have to keep at this one... but here it is anyway, in all it's gammy-ness. It was good fun.

WOOP! Heya Law.
Still checking your subs? Or just random coincidence
Yeah, thought it would be good to put the sketchy stuff out somewheres again. Only put more finished-ey stuff on the blog and webby these days. This just makes me think more about going somewhere with my sketches.
Here are some watercolours I did during a recent trip through Asia. Didn't do nearly as much drawing and painting as I hoped. Took a million photos and kept a good written journal though. So will do some 'inspired-by' pics at some point.
Thanks for the encouragement! Getting some momentum up again. Feels fantastic
I find watercolour somewhat difficult too - but it's so practical and portable that I tough it out I always take a tube of white goache with me for painting opaquely if I get myself in trouble. Of course using that can make things worse unless I'm very sparing with it, and use it only at the end. It's great to have the option though. Good for problem solving, but also just gives more options. Always feel like a beginner with the medium though. Guess thats just the nature of it. I kinda feel like that will never go away
Here are some colour / lighting studies for the above thumbnails. I'm liking the bottom two the best - the high/low angle just adds a bit more dimension to them I think. Planning to push each of them a step further before making the call on which one to detail up fully.
Here's a wee enviro that I just havn't quite knocked off yet. There are a couple of figures going in the foreground, but they're still a bit munty, so I left them out for now. Will repost once they're happily in their little cave...
Hey Law, it's just 2D, and pretty quick. But I'm glad I could confuse you! Been thinking about perspective and construction a bit lately. I feel like I've still got o-so much to learn. I do still dabble in maya pretty regularly though, so it's not really out of the question.
Today - Christmas Wishes! Thanks CA and all those who have stopped by my sketchbook. Best wishes for 2013 - the year of the water snake. May it be a happy and productive year with lots of artistic growth
