Sorry guys, been moving.
I guess I haven't announced it here yet? I missed the SVA deadline for Fall Semester of '08.
So they extended my internship til' September.
no internet at the new place, which means more drawing!
But still no scanner, so meh =\
FOOTAGE FROM BLACKSTAR
Blackstar is the game that I've been working on at Spacetime before the project got canceled. You can read more about it here!
(Please don't mind the typography... I think a programmer did it)
EDIT: more paint

Trying to come up with a world to draw from... Bronzia. Like the bronze age, but sexier. Much, much sexier.
EDITJust fyi, these are in super rough stages, I know the arm/legs may look disconnected, but it's still heavily sketch stage, and will be fixed later on. If it isn't.. LEMME HAVE IT!)

nice warmth in the costume on that first one, any advice you can give on that topic? thanks ...*begins to analize via eye dropper*
SketchBook Chris Yoakum?
I'm having trouble envisioning the armor turning in space. I saw a lecture once by Baron Storey, where he said that the hues on each side of an object (he was talking specifically about a face) as it turns through space shift predominantly in different color directions. So.... each object has a greener side a redder side a purpler side, etc... not that the whole local color of your object would become "green" but that it helps add dimensionality if you have subtle color (not value) variations for each plane.
I'm reading this back, and I don't think i'm conveying the idea correctly, but try "washing" some colors over everything and see what you come up with. If nothing else it might help you break the image so you can fix it again. Sometimes I don't know what to fix if I don't know whats wrong...so I have to screw something up! Hope that makes sense!
I think I get the gist of what you are saying; although I kind of have my own take on it, I agree that it is an issue. I think another thing that hurts the form reading are fundamental drawing related problems; perspective, negative space, not correctly conveying the form of the object, etc- but I guess I'm gonna sleep on it tonight.
thanks for the comment =)
here is a side-by-side
hey jens, missed your comment;
I'm actually trying to make the armor feel rusted, less like pottery. Not all specularly reflectivy. I do need to take it in a new direction for sure, and I agree it's feeling like pottery, but I don't want it to feel like super gloss metal or gold either. The cartoony shapes are intentional too, help with iconicism. I don't want to make a typical steampunky/mid-evil-y knight chick... one thing david gets on my ass about is going too close to realism, and that I need to push everything (thus the legs, really straight, bending backwards a little to help with gesture, etc.-) so I'm trying to work on that bit too.
Thanks for the input!
EDIT: with the latest change I messed up alot of the forms too :X ugggh.

Nice new stuff Justin - I like the werewolf! The werewolf itself could be a bit darker I think.
