loving the feet placement in your characters. this one has a girls face, but a man's body/muscles. i was lookin at the face load and was freaked out that it was a guys body. hahaha!! you got me there!
show us your photoshop crap... i wanna see (and i'm sure later you'll want to see) your progress. because these hard times in photoshop now is your process to getting better. and maybe someone on the threads here can help you of you're lost or can't see something a certain way. ;] expand your horizons!
loving those skull studies as well. it's really great when you can start seeing in 3d, then you can move anything in your minds view and start really seeing. like you said, you're not looking at blobs of color, but thinking of the form in 3d space. cheers!!!!
matt- thanks man
so okay heres one fo my photoshop experiments, really rough still in pretty much every aspect
the main focus here lies on value patterns. I noticed that whatever I paint from mind or from reference, I tend to pick my colors/values too light. So this is about trying out how dark things can get but be still working, and as far as I see it, the result is STUNNING. it's just crazy to see how the snow-color for example looks in the colorpicker-window and how it looks in the painting interacting with other colors. god damnit, it's crazy how dark that snow value actually really is
think that the next step is to actually look for some reference and to push that composition, which practically doesn't exist right now
pushed the composition a bit further, think it looks a bit more interesting now. now the funpart starts
Were those figure studies on page 24 from imagination?
wow, I love this night-time snow scene you're working on. Keep going!
Ok I gotta jump in and say great freaking job man! Seriously love this last piece! I'm just staring at it and geeking out on the values and textures you are playing with. Keep going with this - you are definitely on a right path here!
Daryl Zero: "A few words here about following people. People know they're being followed when they turn around and see someone following them. They can't tell they're being followed if you get there first."
figure drawing looks great just try to use more structure that is not to say you're not using it. It's just that I think it could give volume to your drawings.
MattGamer- thank you maaaan!! pushing it till my eyes pop out!
B-Ren- yepp most of them
LisandroG- Thanks man!
meticulous- thank you so much for the encouraging words!
007-r0b3r7- thanks man! of course you may Currently I am going to an artschool which completely SUCKS in each and every fucking way. So someday in March that year I decided to push myself to the MAX for one year, having a decent portfolio at the end so that I can leave that school and actually start working or at least be able to go to another school. that's basically all its about
andres333- thanks dude! will pay more attention to that
sooooo some work before going to school. pretty much finished with that one. still can't believe how dark it actually is. it seems that you are painting with black all the time if you look at what the color picker gives you, but everything together just looks completely different.
I love the way our eyes work
(one advice: look at it against a black background, much more to see )
really cool works man- lovin post 726 -
cool experiment with that snow and the dark values too.
very nice work all the way around!
Last Digi is looking splendid. Keep it up. Still have plenty of time to improve your work, some 300 days left approximately. Be careful with your figures, they tend to get too unrealistic with the posture. At times you are trying to hide mistakes with attire as well. For instance, the last pencil piece you put up. Get those hands right. You want to exaggerate to the point where it is believable still, but not broken. Check out some Erik Gist. It may help you out a bit. He has a few threads here with his life studies stuff and a thread with tuts on how he approaches his figures. He goes by E.M.Gist here, I believe. Definitely keep it up. I like what I am seeing.
Charles Ratteray- thanks man
Mark Tarrisse- hey dude, cool having you here! Thank you very much!!
Darkside- thanks so much dude, always climbing that friggin ladder
Beelow- thanks a lot for that crit man, gonna push it even harder!!
whew, heres todays baby. my head is fucking bumping, need some rest. gonna put my hands on it tomorrow for some finishing touches
these dark environments are a great idea, I think I will try something like this
the last piece is good, but I would recommend more contrast and strong light like in the last piece as you keep working on it. cheers!
Thomas- thank you man!!
LisandroG- thank you man. hehe your wish is my command
so here are the finishing touches. increased the contrast a bit by adding some "lights" and fleshed out some areas.
This is just SO MUCH fun, it's crazy. Kinda funny that it took me till the last few days to understand what it means when all that badass artists out there say " I would even do it for free". not that I dind't enjoy drawing and painting in the past but I certainly couldn't deny some frustration and maybe even a bit of fear from time to time. But NOW painting hast REALLY become the best thing in the world to me, nothing better, no doubt about that.
Jeeez that "one-year-chellange" started being a deadline for me till I start applying for art schools and jobs but it took about 3 months until now only and this whole thing just changed my view on art and what it means to me completely.
This is not about artschools or jobs anymore, this is about me and my friggin destination. Nothing can stop me, nothing will stop me. I'm just gonna bulldoze through that art-journey becoming the best artist I can possibly be. God damnit that's my purpose, and nothing else!!
i literally saw your eyes pop out. yeahhh that's the way man, goo go gooo!! DRAW DRAW DRAW!! screw those who want to stop you because you cannot be stopped. you are a creative force to be reckoned with. i feel your passion and it's spreading like a wildfire. weeeeeeeeehoooooooooooooooo
these pieces on this page are really nice and give me a sort of peace. can't explain it. the intensity of the fire is strong because of how dark it is everywhere else. really nice mood. i like them very much.
Careful with the light glare in the second last image. I can see what you're trying to accomplish but it just seems like a very perfect vertical strip over the camera, maybe work with shaping the top and bottom tips more, faint them out a bit to make it look at least a little bit more spherical?
You have some incredible works.
yea...thats the attitude you want to have man. THAT is the most important thing to have, it will keep you going. I don't know what your experience will be like when you go to art school, but I can tell you my experience.. most people, even in art school, do not have a passion at all for what they are doing.
good improvement on the second version of the mountains :]
Mark Tarrisse- thanks so much man
Max Martelli- hehe thanks. jeeez now it's just 292 days
Darkside- thanks a lot man! by the way: dude, where are your updates?!?
MattGamer- yeeeesssssssssssssssssss haha yeah, noticed that as well that these low value-key images have some kind of special atmosphere. really cool
teh.meh- thank you, dude! kicking ass? NEVER, theres just so much more to learn, it's crazy!
BlightedArt- man, who gives a fuck about Paintings I did 2 weeks ago?? haha no just kiddin'. know definitely what you mean, thanks for pointing that out
LisandroG- thanks! Actually I already am at artschool, but it just suck so much balls that it's not even funny anymore. That's why I started this "one-year"-chellange. to get outta there to be able to attend some better school or even starting to pay some bills with that stuff
sooooooo one more enviro. Still trying how much i can actually push that low-key paintings. I try to avoid painting a dark piece and then add one bigass bright lightsource into it like I did in the one with the forest at the top of the page. Just feels like a cheap trick to make things easier, and I am definitely NOT about going the easy way. So I'll keep on trying to paint strong pieces without lens-flare lighting action. I truly believe that true skill lies in subtlety.
Spent some more time with that one. Strangely my wrist is not feeling toooo good right now, gonna take it easy for the next 2 days. I think that especially working with a bigger tablet for quite a bunch of hours can kill your hand.
enough talking more arrrrrt!! (again, to really see everything I think its beest to look at it agains a black background )
nice work, man. now play with how close you can get value ranges with no regard to light and dark overall value patterns. look at whit brachna for examples of what i mean. pull up some of his stuff and just run the color picker over it. he manages to get form turns out ridiculously close values all the time. hell, sometimes he doesn't even change the value- he just switches to a complimentary or desaturated color based on the context of the current area and fucking turns form with hue.
looking awesome, though. love that night snow scene. do a few of those and grid them for a portfolio page and people will take note.
haha thank you man! Yeah i was really surprised myself about which effect you can get with working with color shifts instead of changing values and thus keeping them together. Its still crazy for me to see for example in that last piece how close that shine behind that rock and these dark reds really is. I run with the color picker over it and still can't really believe it.
It's like discovering something completely new of which you didn't even know it existed till now
The last one is looking seriosuly AWESOME! I get what your saying about keeping it dark so im not about to say add more light to define things, but definition IS needed and I think some warm/cold could do the trick. Youve already got that going with the VERY unsaturated light parts to make it look yellow (am I right? im guessing) but I mean really crank up the color. Big soft round brush on a color or overlay layer maybe. Just trowin suggestions out there not really a crit, coz it is AWESOME haha
