uhm...this is a bit hard for me cause it´s my first posting here and I´m a bit daunted cause of all the fabulous artists and illustrators here.
The pic I was for a college project we worked at last semester. And it has a very stupid title.
The theme was the fragment "Woyzeck" by Büchner.
Our job was to finish the story within our own insane phantasies. And in my ending he was sent to Sibiria to prison and grows peas in the garden there. And the voices in his brain got the form of a pea woman he felt in love with.
And I always wanted to do a big phantasystyled painting. I still have to work on my skills a lot but for my fifth acrylic paining I´m very satisfied with it.
I had no really good references so if I had cleaned my sketch or had used photos it would have turned out much better.
Ah yes, I had to make photos cause it was a bit too big to scan it and my camera is not the best. So sorry!!!
Media: acrylics on illustration board
Size: 50 to 60 cm (19.7 to 23.6 inches)
Time taken: almost 200 hours (I have to become faster!)
This probably belongs more in the "It's Finally Finished!" forum, or possibly the Critiques section.
As far as critique goes, I like the detail and texture you've got here, but there is no overall light source, it seems... each little fold and stone and such is shaded individually, which flattens out the piece. However, this does look to be a in a cloudy environment so that's not necessarily too bad.
I think your anatomy might be a bit off on the guy; his torso seems too short or possibly his legs too long.
A little more depth with the pea plants and stones would be nice; the pea pods don't seem to be "in front" of the wall, if you see what I mean. Again, some more dramatic lighting would help that.
Overall though, a very nice piece. Lots of good detail and an interesting concept. Well done.
I wasn´t sure about the section where to post it. Cause in "finlly finished" I only saw digital artwork so I decided to post it under "fine art". Nah, now I know for the next time. *g*
I know that the pic is not perfect. But thanks very much for your suggestions. For me I learned a lot about my deficits when it comes to drawing and painting while working on that pic, like lightning and drappery.
And I have to get a bit more gamy about working with lightsources and shadowing. But I´m working hard on it!
And for the Torso... I´ll tell my boy his anatomy is off.
But you´re right. The leg is indeed too long.
And while working on the plants I gave up cause of the deadline. I know I could have worked them out more. Nah.. next pic will come soon!
