Now you dont have to read this, but I felt like writing something.
This is my last portrait for my portfolio, before I ship it off to colleges, and work. Of course, I've done a King Kong piece, but nothing like this. Nothing that shared emotion, protection, or love for that matter. And, I've never really painted a girl before to be honest. And here, I wanted ot push my limits and show everyone what anyone can be capable of. Im sure the picture will have it's faults, and im not completely impressed with it, but I felt I did my job at capturing what I wanted to. Kong's protection over Anne Darrow. I wanted to show what I felt when I was in the theater, and to be honest, I've never been attached to a CGI character before, I mean, kind of with Gollum, but with Kong, I felt what he wanted. I felt that way before in a relationship, I didn't have planes shooting me, or I didn't have to wrestle 3 V-Rex's, but I went through a lot for a girl, and this is what Kong would do for her.
I draw for my passion, and even though I could come up with anything that struck my mind, but I wanted to do this. My second, and yes final, King Kong praise and picture. But this is it, this is my picture. Fully painted in Photoshop CS 2. I used reference of course, which can be found at the www.kingkongmovie.com website. I tried my hardest to capture the digital creation, but make this look like a photo. And im not there yet, but hopefully one day I will be. Enjoy.
and now..I give you:
!!! Excellent piece! I like it very much, King Kong looks great, actress looks also fantastic. Congratulations
Its really really good the only thing that i notice... is that it seems the image does show emotion but.. its sort of bland in theposeing position ... not too much of an exciting pose, though you can still get the emotion sort of ....... just friendly thoughts.. ...your amazing! .. i thought this was a photo from the movie at first .. keep it up but maybe next time try and do a more dramatic pose
OMG. The texture on king kong is incredible. And her hair
Wow dude this is amazing!
Very nice work. How the f#Ck did you do the fur ?? PLease tell me
If you want to make it just like a photo you should do more work on the girl.
Because i looked at the ref, the only difference is the girl doesnt look like a photo but king kong does!
How much time did you put in to this?
WOw that fur!! please tell me
I saved this one on my comp.
"FAIL, FAIL AGAIN, FAIL BETTER"
rWdrk: thank you! Yeah, I tried to nail Naomi Watts as hard as I could (uh? that sounded wrong) in the picture, but thats the best I could get. Thanks for the compliment though! As for the fur, id do a solid patch, making a base color, as a new layer, then id go over it, drawing each fur, after I gfot it the way id want it, id dupe the layer and make a full coat over kongs body, after I have a solid fur, id then go and put in many...many hairs, different colors, lengths, knots, etc. Then id use the burn tool, on shadows with a low opacity, and make blotches.
Thats about it =]
Asoir: ty =)
flashrabbit: ty very much!
Dreadzy: i fully agree! But I want to get that quiet before the storm look, Kongs last moment with Anne, and rudly interupted right there.
rawwad: thank you very much!
amaizing, love the texture on kong.
But seriusly on the exact same scene I thouhgt, "woow would be amazing to draw that" :p and the scene when they are on that cliff and look into the sunset, stil in the jungle tho...
