mm only 1 reply so far, i guess il be second to say something.
i like the dark tone of the whole peice and that hand thats coming out is drawn pretty nice too.
ive tried to figure it out but i really cant tell whats happening. maybe if i could understand the text it would help.
lets see the other pages
thanks for your replies! I know it's pretty hard to understand and actually it wasn't really meant to be understood without the original text. It was supposed to be an illustration accompanying the original work.
Next Part of our project will be to finish the woyzeck story, that has never been finished, since it's only a fragment. Then there'll be no text version to go along with it, and the illustration will be of a more narrative kind.
For those who don't know the story, it's about a soldier (around 1830) who develops (or has developed) a mental desease. He starts to hear voices and a doctor he's continually seeing is certainly not helping the process. He's fascinated by Woyzeck's mental state and uses him as an experimental object. Woyzeck is supposed to only eat peas for a couple of weeks.. to see what happens to the human body. His mental state worsens and he ends up killing his girlfriend (and mother of his little boy) for cheating on him.
My illustrated scene above:
A group of medical students has gathered beneath the doctors window. He wants to study the falling behavior of cats and throws it out the window. Woyzeck catches it and complains about beeing bitten. The doctor loses his interest in his first experimental object and turns to his human object Woyzeck. He shows the effects of one only eating peas for a longer period of time, being shivering and low blood pressure. He treats Woyzeck just like the cat, and subtly shows his evil nature.
The two texts saying (hard to translate):
- "Fellow, he grabs the cat as if it were his grandmother!"
- "Doctor, I feel like it's getting darker"
hey i like the lay out you choose. with the first panel the characters seem to be very short instead of being seen from a higher view and being foreshortened, their upper body looks good, but the lower half is too compact the lighting in the last panel is real effective. using too many refs can feel like cheating to some people, but if it adds alot to your work and you do more than just trace the photo try incorporating it into your work more, good work though, ive just started using painter myself and am liking it
