this is project i am working on and im kinda stuck at the moment cos i was told to add something to those black areas. any suggestions/critiques/comments from you guys? bout the hand, i wanted to edit the initial mistake(lower one) but some of my mates told me to leave it alone since its giving some kind motion/movement. i dont know. any help from you people will be greatly appreciated.
Personally, I just can't "get into" portraits that have mouths hanging open...It always reminds me of my mother, who upon finding me reading, watching TV, or whatever, with my mouth ajar, would say, "close your mouth, flies'll get in... "
You really need to address a multitude of anatomy issues with this piece.
* The bottom of the nose is bent at an extreme angle to the LH side, as viewed,
* The head and shoulders are displaying the left arm joined almost directly to the neck.
* The neck, which is almost nonexistant, makes this piece look like the head is stuck almost directly on top of the body.
* The foreshortening of the right arm that puts the entire arm into the picture is far more desirable than the one that is cropped out of the picture, while you have an excess of canvas on the RH side, as viewed...Although if you correct the deformed left shoulder, the left arm will take up more of that side of the canvas...
Did you make ANY preliminary sketches before you started painting this?
