I just arrived back in Sydney a while ago, keen as mustard to get my sketch on. Working week days, and can't attend Art house because I got night class on Mondays. Any of you know another inner city location to art jam? after work is best since I'm working just off King Street close to Art House. Weekends I'm at Freshy Beach.
Tried sketching the bodies on the beach but I just lose concentration after a while and drinking in the sun gets you drunk quickly. then sick.
any time you want to sketch man, im up for it. im usually around kings cross 3-4 nights a week at Deans or Hernandez - good late night spots with colourful characters to draw. There are a bunch of other good places iv hunted down too - day stuff and night stuff.
give me a buzz on 0438070386 and we can meet up. ill be in the cross tonight (till early morning) if you want a jam
had the flu the last couple days, home sick.
Will buzz you soon, have to organise a few things this week. next week should be all good for some sketch sessions.
Stayed late the other night to do some drinking and drawing. ended up drinking too much not drawing enough. caught later bus which skips my hood. fell asleep on bus, suddenly woke up and jumped off before looking where I was. since I was on the last bus I had to walk 2.5 hours to get home.
tried to hitch but no one stopped. bought pizza, sat down to eat it and fell asleep before the first bite. man evening drawing sessions are a hastle.
BIG ARTY PARTY TOMORROW (SATURDAY NIGHT) at my NEW CASA.
Live PAINTING (digital, i think - so we can all have a play!) all night, as well as 4 bands and a dj, a squash court, a manmade beach, a kiddie pool or two, and some projected beach-related movies. All hosted in the coolest pad in the coolest building in the coolest city of SYDNEY NSW AUSTRALIA. Its not too late to book a flight.
APARTAMENTE 308, #342 Elizabeth St SYDNEY - thats right next to central station (too easy!). FEAT. The Phonies, Rappaport, Anklepants, Billy Liar, DJ Jonah. The theme (clearly) is END OF SUMMER - strict dress regulations apply - must be beach-ready. Limited amounts of apparel avail at cloakroom but if we are out, so are you!! so bring your sandy pants and slip slop slaps.
Anyone who wants to join in the live painting is more than welcome. I might even see about hooking up a projected opencanvas with some international guest artists!!!
shit form, you live at hibernian house? nice digs man... sounds like i missed a party.
So I just got the Shawn Barber DVD last week which kicks a donkey's ass right in the face. I'm also putting plans together for a group drawing show. The time is ripe for some sketch action. If y'all are up for something lets burn this city to the ground.
I'm out most nights somewhere between leichhardt and bondi junction drinking heavily.
luke. yeah man, i have my home and also my studio in hibernian. last nights party was epic... we had 400+ come through the door (according to wristband statistics) and absolutely brought the house down. it got a bit hectic for live painting after a while though so took my gear back to the safety of my locked room
I am definately keen for sketching and look forward to talking about the group show. I definately have contacts in that department if you havnt found a space you like yet.
My no. is 0438070386. whats yours?
fuck it lets set a date.
hows about friday the 13th march?
we can go somewhere spooky (maybe that creepy park down near bondi thats all creepy at dusk) and then go back to woolloomooloo (deans or hernandez?) for an all night sketch sesh??
whos in? who can do march 13? please reply here or call me on number in post above.
hmmmm... im far more keen for an all day saturday effort or something like that. I was planning on trying to organise something anyway... Im just not as keen on all nighters anymore too used to wakin up early due to thin blinds and a hot australian sun.
Friday 13th sounds good. I'm in.
Form, I'll give you a call/msg this week. I think we might have mutual friends from around the traps.
Who else is in for the 13th?

come on KIMMY MY MAN!
well im cool to change to saturday if the majority wants to swing that way. i just think the 13th will be a fun night of characters out and about. either way im happy. im a night owl so i will likely stay out the sat night anyway - giving us a longer stretch.
either way. hands up whos in for what days, ill start compiling. spread the word please.
considering 14th (sat) as the better option so we can have the whole day - as a lot of people need to work friday.
Sat 14th MARCH 2009 - 12 Midday
Meeting at HYDE PARK, corner Oxford St and College St (there is a big cannon mounted on the corner at the lights).
From there I will have a few things planned but we can also play by ear.
Please invite anyone with a desire to have a day of sketching or painting! Doesnt have to be ca'ers. I will likely bring a small plein air setup - either oils or if im a bit lazy, a gouache/wc setup. We will do a sketchcrawl during the day - I know some cool urban architecture areas or a few cool spooky parks that would all make for interesting compositions. Then in the PM we can retire to a good late night caffe or pub and do some sketchtrading and have a good jam session.
If you have any questions or ideas give me a buzz - 0438070386 - and please spread the word!
so far I have about 10 people keen for the saturday so its looking good for the 14th.
still locked in for the 14th and gathering more crew.
on another note, a studio has just opened up here in hibernian house for 50 a week. I can hold it for my own recommendation for a few days. For anyone who doesnt know what hibernian house is, you dont know what you're missing!
Hit me up if you are keen. Its right opposite central station
yeah looking forward to this.. I am thinking of filling quite a few pages of our sketchbook that we have to hand in so i am thining some watercolours and ink washes will be cool! did not want to carry a lot like i usually do.
trying to get as many ppl to show up as possible.
my studio in hibernian house (the free one is essentially the same space back one from the window).
saturday is warming up to be the best meet yet It is smack in the middle of a crazy deadline for me, so please maintaing your distance at all times and don't mention character design or bundaberg rum. Cheeeeers!
I am in for tomorrow kids. I'll see you at the cannon. I actually brought my sketchpad to work today in case it was on tonight! I'll see if I can rope anyone else in.
Form, if that studio at HH is still available I might be interested- guess I can talk to you about it tomorrow.
excellent! it seems we will have a good turnout
just a reminder, its rain hail or shine (there is a backup plan), and enjoyment is compulsory...
Yesterday was a great success Thanks to everyone for showing up!
Next time I would like to have some specifically organised things so as suggested, perhaps timing it with a movie premier/art opening/other cultural event would be cool. It was great fun jamming with you and thanks especially to those who went late into the night and partied at Oxford Arts Factory!
Thanks especially to luke (expat) for those evil double tabasco shots. The toilet experience this morning was interesting, to say the least!
Here are some photos and my sketches from the day - lets see yours!
Until next time... A
I think we've heard enough about 'interesting toilet experiences' for a while haven't we?
On another note, I received this email today from the National Art School in case anyone is interested in attending. I'd go but I gotta work:
You are invited to join us in a free lunchtime lecture by National Art School alumnus Guy Maestri, winner of the 2009 Archibald Prize for Portraiture.
Maestri will be the guest speaker at the NAS Art Forum, to be held in the Cell Block Theatre on Wednesday, 18 March 1pm-2pm."
As for future sketch action, how about the zoo? People/animals/cityscapes- something for everyone... except longnecks and flatliners that is.

ah zoo - wicked idea. yeah no flatliners please. but maybe we need to prove ourselves with the old reverse-tequila-shots trick?
nice painting Tom is tat from life? Love the goauche stuff adam, you've restored my faith in that medium.
Yeah the Zoo would be great, but it costs quite a bit, for entry and stuff.
Alot of Animals and Characters just around the city y'know. perhaps somewhere like botanic gardens down near the water.
