I'll try to check it out luke.
If anyone's interested there's an excursion planned to cockatoo island on September the 5th, saturday which is with my life drawing class at friends of national art school.
Not 100% sure of the times so I'll make sure I post them up here, I'll find out tonight.
Probably won't be the usual sydney sketch group crowd, it will be a bunch of older artists, but will still be a great day nontheless if it's good weather.
With that said I'm really keen for some Sydney sketch meat on my sandwich, and I'm vegetarian. Think we're due for one real soon. Be good to catch up with y'all.
ill be sinking all my time into the bigger workshops from now on -- so if you want to organise the regular smaller ones, please go ahead! ill try to make it to all of them! stay tuned for info on lmc2 a
Seeing as Adam is tied-up. I will be organising the next Sydney Sketch Meet. Right now I have just set a date which will be the 12th of September.
Once Adam sends me the emails of the usual crowd I will post a full itinerary.
So the Itinerary should be up tonight/tomorrow. Plus I'll send it out in by email.
Also regarding the Cockatoo island thing. Meet at Cirq quay ferrys at around 10:30am. shouldnt matter if you're late or early, the ferrys there come every hour. My mobile number is 0406 588 345, if you need.
Ok because Adam is organising the next Like Minds Collective event, I've organised our regular sketchmeet so here's the details
Sydney Sketchmeet #5: 12th Septmber 2009
Meeting: 11am @ Hyde Park North, Archibald Fountain. I'll be there from 10am if you wanna get out early. We will be hanging out at the fountain until 12pm midday. Then heading out to The botanic gardens which is just a stroll away. We'll probably go via that food court at Martin Place, a little out of the way but good food and seating there.
From Hyde park we will be going to Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. The place is huge so there's heaps to draw, it's really beautiful. Should be alot of tourists out with funny accents too.
BOTANIC GARDENS IMAGE
Haven't got anything planned for the evening yet, but I'm sure we can find a nice bar/restaraunt to camp at.
For further info you can email me at email@example.com or call me on 0406 588 345

Thanks for picking up the sketchmeat duties. I'll try to come hang out between 12 and 5 but my show is still up at China Heights and I've gotta mind that for a while.
sweet, would be cool to go to some kind of cafe/pub with awesome views.
Ohh yea and there's a few spare rooms at my warehouse if anyones looking for a place to live, 5min bus to sydney cbd. the rent is dirt cheap, excellent for any struggling artist.
Hi guys, first-timer here. The event sounds interesting just subscribed to this thread and looking forward to the next event!
No worries Cam, it was my fault more than yours. Looking forward to the next meet.
Hey Pete, welcome to the sketchgroup!
hey sorry i've been avoiding the cmputer cos I have tendinitis in my shoulder. I've had it for 3 months now but I've got a chance to take some time off drawing and pretty much doing anything with my right arm, sadly. But gives me time to really think about art and really what I want to spend my time on when I get back to it.
Because of the delay I'm gonna push the date til 2 weeks from now which would be the 24th.
The only thing stopping me from sending out the official word is that I don't really have any new ideas about where we should go.
What I have in mind though is pretty much a repeat of one of my favourite spots we went which is starting from cirq quay and ending up at observatory hill.
Unless someone throws out a better idea in the next day or 2 I'm gonna make this the official plan.
And yes I'm typing with my left hand
Recover soon, Cam. Hope you get better soon, too.
What's the shedule, normally? I can join you guys in the morning but maybe not late afternoon
Heres some random ideas- whatever comes to mind. Some have been suggest and maybe already done too.
- Art Gallery NSW: Studies from the traditional wing, either from painting or sculpture. Always lots to learn. Can also use the Asian Art wing for an asian inspired 'challenge'- Character of the Day kinda thing (whatever happened to Longy the Longneck anyway?) or general inspiration. On that 'Character of the Day' concept, you could also take it further by making it two characters- one from the Asian wing, one from the traditional. The Gallery is climate controlled and has a cafe (I've only eaten there once though, think it might be pricey) and pretty easy to get to.
-Zoo: I've suggested this a few times. Heaps to draw, bit too expensive/impractical. A cheaper and more accessible option could be the Aquarium and/or Sydney Wildlife World at Darling Harbour.
-Darling Harbour: Not the most inspiring part of town for me but it has a really close-up cityscape, water views, lots of people etc. If we went up to Pyrmont Bridge you could get all that plus the boats from the Maritime Museum. Easy access to food/drinks/toilets etc.
Other than that I reckon we could also consider a particular 'theme' of a day. -Landscape
-Figure in Landscape
-Challenges (Character of the day, enviro of the day, vehicle etc).
So on that particular day it might be one or a couple of those things and everyone comes with that in mind. Obviously it wouldn't be 'enforced', it would just be a general guide to get things started. It'd take some pressure off finding awesome locations each time too, because we might be meaning to focus on a storyboard day or whatever.
A 'challenge' day could be alright because, lets say its a vehicle design day for example... We could go to the Ferrari dealerships on William St or the Heritage Fleet shipyards or whatever. Vehicles also totally kick my ass so it would be great to get tips from any of you guys who might be stronger in that area.
Anyway, I'm out of ideas for now...
Sydney Sketchmeet #6 (Like Minds Collective Mini-Event): 24th October 2009
Meeting: 11am @ Darling Harbour (Kind of outside IMAX theatre). I'll be there from 10am if you wanna get out early.
The Plan: Drawing, lots of Drawing, and chatting. Really it's just a fun day out to meet up with friends and Artists and learn stuff and share ideas and inspiration.
There's the possibilty of us visting the Aquarium but because we're starving artists we will only go if people can afford it on the day.
Heaps of stuff to draw around the Harbour and usually events on around this time of year.
Mini-Challenges: Going to throw a few challenges and themes of the day into the mix for a bit of fun. I will have prizes on the day such as moleskine sketchbooks and art supplies.
There's gonna be a few of these challenges but I can say for sure one of the challenges of the day will be to design a character that represents 'The Like Minds Collective'.
For further info or ideas for challenges and themes-of-day you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me on 0406 588 345
Public Transport: Closest Train Station is Town Hall, then walk down Darling Walk, and you're there.
Sounds like fun. I'll be there for the first part, at least. "Like Minds Collective" huh? Will do some homework before going... ^_^
I will probably start coming down to these when they're on, later in November and on from that. Final weeks of uni crunch bearing down on me at the moment.
In terms of places to go, for people-watching I always found Hyde Park and Martin Place to be interesting, but they can get crowded.
I'll be moving to Newcastle for my arts course in January and making regular trips to Sydney to visit the rellies ($10 with a student discount..love it), so I might be able to see you guys early next year if there's another meet up.
I'll subscribe and check back here soon.
Sorry real late notice on this but I got a message from an artist from Europe that is interested in a sketchmeet this weekend. So here's the details.
Sydney Sketchmeet at Bondi Beach - Saturday 21 November 2009 (yeah tomorrow)
We will be meeting between 10-11 am outside Bondi Beach Maccas, or around there sorta.
My mob number is: 0406 588 345 if you get lost.
Easiest way is usually a train to Bondi Junction or The city then buses depart from there right to the beach.
hey all Sydney siders sketchers
I got back from my europe holiday 3 months ago, been living out of storage lockers and hostles. finally got a place no in Manly now, I'm keen to get a sketch on this weekend, if that too short a notice then perhaps next weekend would be good too. Somewhere in the city.
My house is pretty good space for entertaining so I'm thinking if we organise a big meet, depending on where it is, you're all welcome to come over and get hammered, and we can get some large papers up all over and have a drunken sketch session.
FORM - let me know how the planning for the workshop is going, I'll be keen on that, and will haelp out where ever possible. cheers mate.
