hey guys check it out moleskine books for more than half the aussie shop price, free delivery worldwide too.
I ordered like 8 large sketchbooks. The paper is really nice, but make sure you don't buy the notebook, because the paper sucks.
stock up and get those sketchbooks oozing with sketchyness.
Thx for tip Cam, I've ordered one.As far as my sketchbook goes, I'll try to upload something this week, but I have only recently started sketching a bit more, so need to build up some volume
Hey i am thinking that maybe from now on we should pick one spot, and stay pretty close to that area for the whole day. It gives everyone more of a chance to finish some longer drawings, allows people to get more confortable with each other (more time sitting down and offer the opportunity to be approachable) and when people are late we are easy to find. Less walking and more drawing. Plus it means that each sketchmeet is rather unique and we are not going to the same places all the time.
Would people like to go to monkey isl... eerrr i mean coackatoo island, inner suburbs, maybe even the blue mountains or outer sydney places like that. Make a picnic and go for an adventure with our sketchbooks.
Yeah was good to meet you fin, hope you didnt get sunburnt as I did. Sometimes I feel like people are disappointed and I gotta hype it up somehow, make it more memorable.
We were in the same area the whole day, most people left so we left too...
I dont know how many people would be keen on a day trip, most people can only stay for a few hours.

just so you know, personally I've not been disappointed with the sketch meets and I very much appreciate you organising them. It's always good just to get a chance to meet and catch up with other local artists.
But if you did want to "hype it up" your day-trip idea sounds like a great one.
Also I liked how once you had planned to have some competitions and stuff, I thought that was also a good idea to get everyone sharing ideas and art. Probably wouldn't even need prizes :p
Hope that adds something !
*^ Just added that so u might better know who this is cos I know I hardly post here. Ever. And there's another user with almost the same nick as me now I'm not that guy ! I have a space before my "C" !*
hey is anyone interested in this?

Hey Cam I could give you a hand with organising the next one, dunno what I can do but at the very least I can be a contact point.
Let me know what your thinking and what needs to be done. Early next month or end of May-ish would be good, well for me anyway because I want to start a course in mid July and might be pretty useless for the next few months if I get in !
Hey happy birthday in advance Daz
Someone else is going to have to take the reins of the sketchmeets from now on. My schedule has me occupied on Saturdays so that means I can't attend or organise the events.
If someone is keen to run the sketchmeets please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I can provide you with the email address for the usual attendees.
June 12 Sketchmeet!
When: 12:00 Midday, June 12
Where: Corner of Park and Elizabeth St - inside Starbucks or opposite Starbucks on hydepark corner.
Ahoy sketch fiends, its time for another sketchmeet, this time because of the unstable weather we'll be meeting on the corner of park st and elizabeth st at hyde park, theres a starbucks there so if its raining or just way to damn cold we'll be inside the starbucks, I for one think it would be really cool if it rained because that would allow us to draw an atmosphere we dont normally get to study on sketchmeets. Anyway after meeting up we'll probably go to a cafe or get some food and make a few observational drawings. Look for people with sketchbooks and introduce yourself to them and if you have anyfurther troubles call me on the day.

nice one daz, thanks for organising that!
I should be there unless i've got a job on that has a tight deadline or something
I hope it doesnt rain but if it does i might suggest the art gallery nsw, it's walking distance from that starbucks cafe...
daz are you having an old school warehouse rave for your bday? sounds awesome
Due to a lack of interest tomorows June 12 Sketchmeet has been canceled.
On a positive note however many of the regular Sketchmeeters are busy working on successful projects which means they are making it in the illustration industry.
So I encourage anybody out there who's dream is to be an artist to keep studying; paying attention to perspective, anatomy and form.
I would love to come meet fellow Sydney sketchers too. I work near the city so weekdays would be awesome, but after work hours. XD
Where's the regular location?
dwardo - Coogee to the city shouldn't be too hard- there are plenty of buses going back and forth.
rodrigo, your artblog is amazing.
Ok so hands up for whomever is still keeping an eye on this thread. I'm thinking of taking over the planing and organising of these sketchmeets so i need to know if people here on CA are still interested.
If so could you either pm or email me at comixnutatgmaildotcom so i can add you to the list, but not to worry i will also post it here!
Hey Rod, yeah man that night was pretty damn cool. Loved catching up with so many friends all in one place. I saw the 'consequences' of you showing your sketchbook to Adam. LOL Now he's also gesso-ing some pages and seeing where it goes. I am doing the same but instead of oils it's for acrylics.
Anyway the plan that i am formulating in my noggin is to have a regular day that everyone know where we will be each month and the possibility of a second day every so often to try to include those that have always wanted to show up for some reason Saturdays (or whatever day the regular is) is just never free.
I think there was one or two guys from Ashton's that fall into tha group at least if not more.
Anyway, let's see what we can see.
lol i doubt it i use matt medium myself not gesso but hey to each his own eh
I'm gonna be crazy busy for the next month but there is a dr sketchy's on 21st September and I know some of the drawing book peeps are gonna be drawing/drinking too so that should be fun if you're interested!
I'm Xavier, a regular attendee of the Brisbane Sketch Group. Going on a week-trip to Sydney in late Sept to early Oct, and I'm curious to find out when and where you guys meet up. Been digging but I haven't found a definitive answer.
Thought to come out of the ice and give you a shout! Give me a time and place and I'll try to make it. =]
Ok so it's time to get back on this beautiful horse of ours and flog it until it's dead! This is my first 'official' Sydney Sketchmeet as organiser so you better all show up and make it a good one.
Time and date: Saturday, 2nd of October 2010 - from 10am - 4pm
Place to meet: Hyde Park, Sydney CBD at the Archibald Fountain (please see map).
What to bring; A sketchbook and something to doodle with.
Goal for the day: to Sketch (i have high goals).
Contact: PJ 0404 35 35 89
The idea here is the same as always to get out of the house see other artists and get to know each other and at the same time sketch. We all need the fresh air (me more than some ) and we are all doodlers. Come, say hi to everyone, give us your name and start chatting and sketching away. I will do my best to make sure that everyone feels included, so sit close (no closer, closeeeeeeeeeeer) and feel free to start a conversation. Better yet ask to see people's sketchbooks and share yours.
We shall try and make it a one place sort of event for each sketchmeet. That gives stragglers the chance to know where we are no matter what time they show up. I like Hyde Park and particularly the area around the Archibald Fountain so from now on (or until it starts not really working for people) that will be our meeting place. If we decide to go somewhere else i will try out the idea of walking from there as a group but we can leave that for the next one (which i am hoping will be on the 6th of November).
There are plenty of cafes around and other interesting places for people to explore. Lots of people to draw and always plenty of interesting characters.
Extras: It might be cool if we can give the idea of coming up with a logo for the group another try. The more people the merrier so bring your friends.
Any questions, queries, suggestions don't hesitate to call me or email me.
Hope to see everyone there.
