ahh true.. thats interesting.... I wouldnt mind doing something like that as well... I would still like to do the sketchbook thing... I like to see hard copies... Im not a very digital type of person... not yet at least.. but, im down... even if the canvas size is large I could just crop the section im going to be working on and print that to draw on.. yeah.. that would work... lets, start that up after the TD entry is due.. that way we can all participate...
Britt, that books looks sweeet... I am going to get a copy...!!! damn.. also Loomer.. I couldn't find that book..damn the site serach function isn't working.. dirty.. hehe.. well I will try again later.. also check out that huntsman book britt bought.. it looks brilliant...
Vigo, thanks for the offer.. I think shipping is going to ruin it though.. Ian's in UK..shipping is so going to hurt.. I better stop whinging.. I am up for digital ones though.. how about we make it a digital sketchbook? with few pages... I can pretty much assemble it in indesign or something and run it into PDF afterwards.. and we can send ebooks!! yay~ sounds like an awsome idea.. We can simply run a page each week and it just goes around. we'll take turns as the first and last person doing it will have the most work I think.
Vigo, you should get into digital.. it's just a tad more convenient.. it's just a medium dude!!! you can do it!! Also we do have to sit and wait for the sketchbooks if we were to ship it.. god how long does the friggen auspost take?? ages... not to mention how frequently they suddenly lose your valuables. and turn around and say "what you talking about??"
I think digital sketchbook is an awsome idea..
this weeks assignment is due tomorrow.. anyone's done it?? hehe just curious..
britt: i like the traveling sketchbook thing but it might take a while to receive and a bit of a hassle with shipping and handling.... i like the digital version better, sounds cool, convenient, and it doest necessariliy have to be strictly digital, u can work on top of the sketch with ball point or what have you ...as u mentioned. the skillful huntsman looks mighty freeken cool i think i will buy it, or steal your copy heheh.
loomer: hey that sounds cool, we can just go crazy with our ideas. i can print mine out and add some brown smudge marks on it and send it to the next man to add more crap to it. it would be cool see what the end result is.
the skillful huntsman is a visual development book featuring the works of scott robertson, khang le, mike yamada, and felix yoon...check it out at budplant..really looks likes a sweet book.
***did you get my other message? i will be patiently waiting next to my mail box everyday. haha
did anyone check out the art of star wars episode 3 yet? i want to get that book as well.
vigostar: if we were to do the traveling sketchbook thing, who would get to own the actual sketchbook? the person that purhcase it?... or maybe we can donate it to a museum at the end. heheh
bumskee: whoa! ebooks? never tried it..sounds like a nifty idea.
hey guys, one more thing, we should all do a sketch trade-off sometime, maybe not now but when all the tdome madness ends, after round 2 perhaps? or whenever.
shit its due tomorrow!!!! fuck... shit.... I didnt even take the pictures yet... I need an extension.. ive been busy working on the C.O.W and the graff battle TD.... I knew I had to do it but, I thought it was due sunday for some stupid reason... grrrr.... ive been awefull with these as of late... imma gonna getback into gear.. im still working on my 20 page update... im about half way there i think.. should get there by sunday.. def... i'll be done with the C.O.W tonight.... hopefully... Shit then I have the Out for Blood TD to work on next week!!! shit, thisis crazy.. pressure.. i kinda like it though... Makes me feel like im actually working for a purpose as opposed to just drawing to draw.. Anyways.. im down for whatever with the sketch trade thing... So, when ever someone starts it give me a heads up..
Bumskee--- yeah im going to get into digital probably starting next year... Im asking my girl to get me a tablet for x-mas... so hopefully she will.. and hopefully i get the full prisma color marker set for x-mas as well... thats going to rock... I'll have tons of coloring materials then and no excuses!!!
i just found these two sites.. these two guys are really great... just wondering if you guys have seen their work??
the first guy is Seung Ho http://henrik.cgcommunity.com/.. I think Bumskee would really like it, being that he's a big digi guy.
the second guy is Joao P.A Ruas http://www.jp-ar.org/- this guy reminds me of a miz between Velionov and N8.
Well... enjoy.. i know I did..
Wow- this thread looks so much better now with their work!
- I don't know Mr. Ho, but i've been a fan of Joao for awhile. he almost never updates his site though...really talented guy there.
-Thanks Magic Man for the link...Bookmarked that puppy and will feed them my cash. That book 'The Skillful Hunter' looks like a must have...I think I'll buy it this very day.
I like the idea of an ebook...sounds cool to me. Also, a sketch trade after the T-dome sounds awesome. I think it's 99.9% guaranteed there is no way I am going to beat Jason Chan in round 2...he's amazing, and I suck it.
- clogik -I got that message! stay very close to your mailbox...if u press your ear against the mailbox, you can actually hear my mail!
- okay..I should uhh...do some drawing. peace sketchlings!
WORD yo... those two guys are really great... I love finding new artist... so, Im thinking about buying some webspace.. i just ran out of space on my photobucket acct.... i know its sucks.. So, I can either a- pay 25 bucks a year to upgrade my photobucket. acct. or b- get some webspace,... Any suggestions.. Then I would have to think of a domain name.... Shit.. i wouldnt know what to do for that either... I was thinking something like Blendedlines.com something that discribes my artwork... what about urshitsucks.com!!! any suggestions??
Vigo dudeeeeeee thanks for those, I am too unfamiliar with all the sick awsome artists... I only know those that come frequently to cgtalk.com or something... those look sweet man.. ooooo those are fully sick.. thanks dude..
I was at the massive book store in sydney, didn't find anything good though except for seeing "berserk" and "blade of the immortal".. sweeet love the art in "blade of the immortal"
webspace?? I recent bought www.minart.net.. couldn't get .com.. someone had bumskee.com too..what the.. yeah.. I also signed up 50mb/10gb BW for $30 I think..I will post the link for webhosting, I saw some sweet deals... you can pretty much get a decent web hosting for around $50USD for a year and domain cost not much.. how about www.vigostart.com? sketchlings.com?
Loomer!! I reckon u will do just fine in TD.. I wish I had entered TD.. :< please tell me next time guys~~
yeah, i forgot to mention that in my last post.. Scott.. dont sweat jason chan he's an amazing artist but, you have a kind of magical aura about your artwork... Theres a kind of purity to it.. thats what put you ahead of your oppenent in round one and I get the feeling that will be the factor in round two!!!
Bumskee- yeah, man... i didnt know about those two guys until I went onto the website for the huntsman book and started to click on links (which is how I find all these different artists).. dont worry, I'll be checking out your awesome work online soon as well!!! vigosart.com sounds cool but, I wanted something thats more representational to my art.. something that speaks for it in a simple terms.
Beautiful stuff, Thanks for posting those most inspirational images Vigostar. Those artist are so freakin' impressive. Its going to be hard to follow that up with these light studies. But they are due today, so here they are. Looking foward to everyone elses stuff.
Britt, awsome studies.. the second one, that's....like a photo.. I thought it was and then saw the brush strokes.. dude that's so...real... love the hair beautiful lighting. Love your work dude!!!!!!!!!!! can't wait to see everyone elses.. eeewwww..
.. ok mine.... no ref so the lighting is a bit off I think.. I don't like doing self portraits because I am an ugly bastard, heheh..
I did have my hair like this before..very messy..
top, had more trouble with the angle of the face though.. and from below.
Hey - sorry I'm a little late on this guys...I got caught up in my birthday celebrations..I'm fuckn' old now...damn. I'll post mine in a little while.
Britt- I love the watercolor studies...so loose, yet elegant.
That digital study of the girl is sweet too... The warm light hitting her hair, as her face sits in a pool of cool purple and blue hues...love it!
Bumskeetskattle- that's really impressive that you did these with no ref...It looks really believable. You look like a hip handsome fella in that self-portrait...The hair is awesome! You don't have it like that anymore? tsk...
No one's face is as atrocious as mine, and I do self-portraits...they can be fun sometimes!
I'm kinda drawn to the last head study...I'm really diggin the loose hair and "feathers?" on her shoulders...at least that's what I think they suggest. Looking real good.
OKAY- I post NOW!
You don't know how big I smiled when I saw that. Above technique, I think true soul and purity is what really stands out in great art. It's something that is so much harder to achieve that technical skills (they are hard enough) - and to hear that you see that in my work makes me feel all my hard work might just be visible to some. Thanks bro.Originally Posted by vigostar
okay...I just got a haircut so don't laugh. My hair is still crazy..
2 in this one- both done from photos I took me-self
brown ink pen, gouache, coffee...also from ref I took
I think I'm going to try doing more of these. Even though I have a stupid fat face, I learned alot from these. I used to do alot of self-portraits (from mirrors) but i've been able to do crazier stuff with lighting and photos, that I couldnt' manage from a mirror before. could always benefit from this shit,ya know? Looking forward to the rest of y'alls studies
you guys zaal gotit gowin on! fully enjoying this fwed!
loomer that sp is niiice.
bumski love the middle one.
virgostar - awsome stuff, love the adidas kid..too funny.great lines.
and clogik - nice nudes dude.
nothing is good - nothing is bad -- osho
(all is well)
Omni 1's scribbles/doodles >>HERE NOW<<
britt: cool stuffs man. i like the loose brushwork on the ink wash studies, they are loose but all the info is there to appreciate.
i like the colors on the girl study, great contrast of light.. and looks like you nailed down the low key lighting. looks like the right side of her (where the warm light hits it) seems to be the slightest bit too wide,or maybe her face is like that. also you could soften the coreshadow a bit, it seems to hard which flattens it out a little. but im just ramblin.
bumskeeety: ahh man good stuff. i still dont know how the hell you bang these out like you are machine or something. great lighting and they are all loose. i like the first one with the messy hair, my hair was messy like that a month ago (afro stylee) but i cut it short because it bugged me..hahah only so that i can continue to grow it out again for the upcoming winter.
loomer: hey i would have to second vigos comment about how your work has soul and purity. your work is purifying. its like i feel refreshed after looking at them. haha. i dont know what that meant. maybe i dont have to take showers anymore after looking at your pieces. tahahah.
as for the studies. i like the first one the best with both head studies on the same page.. really cool. your pencil work is loose, and tight in the more important aspects.. great showcase of varied pencil strokes and mark making.
okee dokee...heres my stuff!!!!
better late than never. im such a procrastinator. haha. pretty much working on them yesterday...
here is an early version of random dude head.....before i added the other face, the colors were mono at first, then i did autolevels and the ps machine hooked me up with a wild color schematic.
heres the after version with the added face on the left.
heres a smoking dude
clogik... awsome stuff!! yes it is better late, wonder where Rob went. nice lighting stuff, love the first one, damn you do know how to use that pink and blue.. freaky... I assume these are without ref right? (I figured that out.. didn't think there would be many that look like that...) Afro head? hehe I think we all had it once before.. I had it twice.. I wish I could do it again but I am sure my workplace will say no..
Bumskee Those studies you did are very entertaining, man. The first and last ones you did have tons of drama. Very Nice
loomer Very nice stuff. Mad props to you for having the guts to actually do self portraits. All us other guys have butt ugly faces.. JK. Good job.
clogic Wow dude, that is some creepy shiznat. Dunno if I will be able to sleep tonight after seeing those crazy faces. Gotta give you the hats off for unique style.
my afros are seasonal. im growing out my hair again to afrotastic proportions, but my hair is thick and hard to manage, when i wake up with a fro i dont even comb it or anything i just throw on a hat. im such a scrub. haha
here are some suggestions:
pages full of hand studies
skeleton studies/ skeleton structure
studies of figures carrying heavy objects or heavy weaponry to show distribution of weight, placement of feet, careful posing of the figure..etc
more lighting studies of anything
facial expression studies
all of those sounds good to me hehe.. something we could all benefit from.. 500 gestures heheh.. that's a handful. that's a very good list clogik.. hand studies? or should we keep puching some face studies?
studies of figures carrying heavy objects or heavy weaponry to show distribution of weight, placement of feet, careful posing of the figure..etc
that's very good I think.. that and "off balance", "twist" and "strech"? oo..
damb.. you guys are doing really well.. im glad to see it... I promise Im going to get grounded real soon.. shit got really crazy for me this last week... but, anyways.... I feel like loser cuz I was the one that started this whole Sketch group thing and now im the one not even producing the art required...
hey vigo! man dont even sweat it, i know you got your hands full with some other important matters. just as long as you dont stop drawing.... but dont worry about posting stuff on time..even i posted super late!! i know ur a busy man.....cheers!!
Ditto V. - you gotta do whatchya gotta do first... things will settle eventually and then you can jump back on the horse.
clogik - those are fuckn' great topics...I started writing down some too, so between what you just came up with, and the possible Sketch Trade after the T-dome we have enough ideas to go through until 2007.
we'll see what britt has to say...when's Infinitum supposed to return?
this was intriguing.."studies of figures carrying heavy objects or heavy weaponry to show distribution of weight, placement of feet, careful posing of the figure..etc" -We could even push it more by having different body types and how they distribute their weight .. skinny ass model type chick, muscular diesel steroid no neck dude, big fat ass cake eating fatty, little kid w/ big head,...etc. But that could be another topic all in itself.
All those ideas sound good though (although the 500 gestures intimidates me greatly!)- what say you!?
hahah.. 500 gestures.. that would be awsome.. we do that for a year, we are all going to be king of gestures but have the shortest patience level ever. hehe.. come on someone call for this weeks assignments.. I am good to go with heavy object or 500 gestures. Wonder when Infi is returning..
Oh yeah and also..
storyboard? for your morning.. I think me and vigo already have done a similar exercise.. hehe.. but more like a sotryboard kinda.. kinda cool to see what everyone gets to in the morning
and your impression of our sketchgroup members, I had thought about doing this for a while, I mean I don't really know what you guys look like but I do visualise a face according to things I see from your art and so on.. so maybe something like that for our creative weekly assignments.. except loomer who does quite a few of SPs.. everyone else..no idea..

i am at a lose.. I love the 500 gesture drawing idea.. im goin go buy a sketchbook just for that!!! as far as any other ideas... i dunno... drawing ourselves would be kinda cool... Ive wanted to do garbage pail kids character from our names... Like... umm... Rob the slob, Scott the Bot, Min the pin.. i dunno... and we should create them like the old garbage pail kid cards... I'll even do it digital!! although it would take me forever!! what do ui think.. maybe we can list all of our topics so that we have it in one page so we can cross them out as we go along!
