Sorry for not having posted much lately.
I've had somewhat of an 'artists block' - I dunno - temporary lack of interest even.
But I have finished this at least.
Not sure how long it took. Couple of weeks on and off.
No references(and thus not flawless, but that's ok with me)
I have put up a "tutorial", or rather a little 'work in progress' thingy at my site as well.
So to see the finished piece and the "tut", you can go to my site:
Thanks for looking.

Hey John P. Looking good man. After seeing your most current piece I was thinking about something. Now I'm giving you a warning because this is "challenging" your whole style of painting thus far...but I would like to see you get a lot looser with your strokes. All of the pics you have posted up have looked like they have been airbrushed which is ok except that it often lacks depth...but I think a more "painterly" style would fit your subjects and style better (just my opinion). I think that's perhaps why it takes so long for you to do these pics...when everything has to be blended completely it takes a long time. I think you have a tremendous drawing ability (drawing that robot from above on your last one is a difficult task for sure) and your concepts I always really like but I would just like to see you branch out. I honestly hesitate to say anything because I STINK at art but I truthfully just want to help out. My suggestion would be to get involved in some of the speed painting that is going on in the DSG thread...Hardcorepixx has a walkthrough of the Star Wars Sith he did that I think is really helpful. He shows his working size and shows how he applies paint. I would try to get involved in the DSG thread and use something in painter or photoshop that moves paint around the canvas so it will be hard to blend anything...so you will force yourself to choose colors and apply them liberally. I hope this helps and I don't want it to come across bad I just think this painting, and your others would be more powerful if a different technique was used.
 - Lemme know what you think...feel free to tell me I'm stupid
Actually for a long time while working on this, my plan was to - when I had finished it 'enough' - flatten it, and then do a paintover with looser brush strokes, to make it more painterly.
So you're absolutely correct.
But I just don't believe in myself enough when it comes to those kind of brush strokes that I wanted to do it in the end, in fear of 'ruining' the drawing. Now I know there's no such thing in digital media, so I'm not sure why I didn't at least try.
Maybe I'll do it just for fun, and see what happens.
The closest I've been to anything like that so far, is the Lynx piece and partially the Vanquish.
On the other hand, the clean, 'paintbrushy' style is...well, a style, so I don't really see anything wrong in that in itself.
But I would like to be able to paint like Foster and dodowa and Aleksi and......(the list goes on and on) after all.
I said this after I had finished the last piece too...
Thing is, I don't spend enough time drawing, and I don't have the energy to do so on a day to day basis.
I don't live and breathe paint, so I guess I won't ever be one of the big guns.
I'll of course try to get better though - that's kind of the point of being an artist.
I don't have that insane drive that some people here seem to have though. Which you probably need to have to become that good.
Thanks for your comments - I appreciate it.
I'm glad you didn't take it as a slam cause it wasn't by any means. Yeah man! Get loose!...make a couple paintings and don't undo anything...give yourself 1 hour to do the painting. Go crazy and don't hit the undo button once...that sounds like fun hehe! Hey I wanted to tell you...I saw your terminator piece up on the website...that's pretty cool!
