"Jees i'm out of it for a liitle while and everyone has dilusions of grandeur."
Haha your studies are looking great OBX. Sorry i thought i was dying there for a wee bit with pneumonia. The values r looking good on the last one. I think his left shoulder needs to be a bit bigger based on what i can see of his right one.
lol double post, i do them all the time, i feel like sucha noob wen i do too. no big deal. thanx for the comment oki. ill write u one up tonite.
and a long over due page addition. some feng style sillouettes. and then i got bored and did watever i felt like. then refocused and did some new mentler studies.
I like the studies on the last post. Your quick studies and thumbnail sketches show alot more energy and expression. I like the 2nd robot from the left the best. Proves that you don't need a wide range of values to render something convincingly.
Most of the time I find the energy in sketches are hard to translate to final works unless you try to keep the simplicity of the sketch in mind while working.
Haha, that sad bird in your last post is really funny! Those sillhouette studies are cool too. And the tribal guy/gladiator is looking good! Not much to crit on, othar than I agree with putting more expression in his arms. Also a less air-brush feeling to the pic would be cool. More harsh strokes. I think...
Anyway, keep it up!
Cool sillouettes, all of them. And mentler stuff is always hot.
this is as far as im taking that fat warrior dude. took about 4-5 hours. i really dont know how some ppl speed paint and get stuff like this in an hour. they much use speed hacks or sumthin. owell here u go:
I think speed paintings is all about seeing right and being able to suggest forms w/o drawing all the details. Or hacks like you said haha. As much as I believe in seeing right, i'm still in awe everytime I see full size illustrations being done in an hour or less.
Warrior guy came out great. No crits for it.
25/pencil/serp: thanks for the comments, much appreciated.
anyways, heres some more digi-ouettes. starships and some pretty random ppl. not much, i hope to have a big dump this weekend.
damn OBX i gotta do some of them I like them alot!
25: thanks, i hope that ill get some ones i reaaly like and will attemp to take them a step farther into a line drawing... one of these days.
zheng: yep thats a good thought, i just wasnt in the mood tho. its hard to do sillouettes in a 3/4 view and make them readable. the patches of value are to indicate new planes and large armoured areas, to remind me of the dimensions a bit. but i should prolly lay back on posting the sillouette thumbs, cos they are hard for ppl to crit and read.
flynn: haha u should, i wanna see u uping ur sb some more. it'll be tight now that u have a tablet. im jealous cos i think my graphire is startin to go on me, i just use this mother way too much. prolly doesnt help that i put it in my mouth all the time. lol.
thnx everyone for the replies. and now an updateroonigramitoid
nice i really like the texture your making in fat warrior one. He could use a lil more neck. Im lovin the spaceships, really diggin the shapes.
Lol love the notes and the guy licking himself in the mirror lollercakes all the way.
Man I wish you would spend some more time on these things, I really think you should push yourself.
Anatomy sketches look hot. Dig the beefy red guy. Those sillouettes you make, you plan to take any of those beyond sillouette? They look real good I'd like to see a complete concept with one of them.
what brush/setting/opacity are you using? Because your shapes keep on coming out too blurry. Try using a harder brush at a highter opacity and blend less.
Here I just sampled your color and paint over.
I didn't fix the anatomy since I just wanted to show you how to keep things structured.
the mirror guy is great hahaha. Took me a sec to figure out it was a mirror.
same as everyone here great update m8 i promise ill update more often startin today!
Anyways lovin the shoulder study but as master said its a tad blurry, and the mirror guy, hahah! keep it up OBX
The red warrior's anatomy is really convincing, but his left arm looks as if it's bend slightly backwards (I think).
The red beefy man's right foot(viewer's left) isn't standing firmly on the ground, for the rest its good. And I like the mirror man also, did you copy the image into the mirror or redraw?
howdy, thanx for all the replies, and patiently waiting for me to update. sigh*
kresh: yea man i know, i really need to sit down and see wat i can reeeaaaly put together. im trying to take things to a more finished state i guess, but also, i need to become more confindent in my rendering. and im still teaching myself techniques.
boogie: heck yes i plan on taking one of those silloettes to the next stage im working on one atm.
25: this is the second time ill have told u this, but during those drawings i had the opacity set to tablet sensitivity. im starting to experiment tho, cos ive gotten that crit like a kabazillion times, and ive switched my sensitivity to brush size and now have the flow turned off, and the opacity set to 50-65ish. but i never ever did blending before, i would just lightly feather away with each color till i got a blend. but now, ive found a real blending technique that i tired out for the first time today. and ive learned that i gotta blend inside the shape, and not at its edges or it will get lost, kinda like coloring inside the llines. ull see the effect of the technique in single page update.
flynn: thnx pal, glad u like.
wim: yea i know, thats wat i hoped ud see, he is sort of angled a little forward. but i really didnt spend much time on it, if i were to render it, it would become more apparent.
Zheng: thnx for pointing that out. no i didnt copy the image at all, that is pure brush stroke. i just mirrored the highlights into the reflective surface, its not exactly a mirror, i just wrote that cos i didnt really think ppl would understand. its more like a really quickly suggested reflective surface, just cos i wanted to see if i could do one.
and here is my digipage for today. ps has anyone tried that new CA.org paintchat? man its fun, we should get our whole sketchgroup on there.
just trying out this new blending brush i made, its like, wicked powerful lol. these pictures have no real aim to them just trying to figure out who this all works. the technique i found on cgtalk under this thread ( cgtalk )

hey, looking better guy. Especially the glass ball. Good control there. Size jitter is the way to go, i started out with the opacity jitter on too and have found blending with a 60%(or whatever percentage below 100%) brush gives you more control.
Yeah, that's a really cool err... pink-and-yellow animal I like the colors, very vibrant. Also, very clean linestyle in your last drawing, is that some kind of floating city ?
Hot stuff as always. I checked out the paintchat too yesterday and it was real cool. Hurri was in there and drew some crazy shit and later jason and andrew stopped by (left after 10 seconds tho). You're definitely right we gotta get the whole group in there and own the place!
25: yeah thnx, now i just gotta focus and do some kickass real paintings
serp: lmao so funny. thnx
wim: well its kinda one of the spaceships im working on, i took one of the thumbnails to the next step, im still working on it tho.
boogie: thnx, yah id love to go into the pchat, mabey we should all exchange our aim or msn names and setup an oc seshion or sumthing! those are the funnest.
i took this new blending tool i made and unleshed it on that page a few posts back, ill post them next to one another for comparison.
Wow, your updated "red guy-painting" is looking really good, the muscles (and that piece of cloth) seem a lot more defined now. Keep it up !
