Gone for about a month guys, anxious to see what you come up with while I'm gone. Good Times.
"absorb what is useful, discard what is useless, and keep what is essentially your own." - Bruce Lee
Bojee's Monkey Brain
Bojee- it's was great having you participate, and we'll hold a spot for you till you get back.
Aztaroth- cool, we welcome everyone
Skuli- don't worry about it, hell I still do it every once in awhile.
Aremah- this will fall int between both those areas, it is just a concept sketch, but you want it a little cleaner like an illustration, maybe a hint of background. Added greyscale also, thanks for the heads up.
Sounds interesting, and it'll give me a chance to break open the ole sketchbook. I'm not sure which character I'll do first, but I'll post ASAP.
The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance. ~Aristotle
Sounds cool, shame i missed some of the previous assignments. Some would have been great fun to do! But anyway, i don't quite get what you mean by post-apocolyptic (sorry, havnt been at school for 3 weeks now, work experience ) so could you just run it by me in a simpler(stupid person's) view.
"Shes worth dieing for, Worth killing for, Worth going to hell for!... amen" - Marv, Sin City
Post-apocalyptic means after an apocalypse. Think Mad Max or Fallout.
Sadly, it looks like I might not be able to enter this one either. 5 exams this week. We'll see. I'll enter the next one for sure, though.
Here we go... I might not have time to do more before deadline... So I'll post this now.. I'll just edit this post in case I have time to noodle more on it
I chose the Queen of Hearts. She's gotten a fair slimming down from the disneyversion. The cards she hold in her hands can be used as shurikens, and the crown is used as a morning star.
I gave her a gasmask to get the post-apocalyptic feel..hehe..
The weapons are there, 'cuz I kinda saw this game moving a bit like Soul Calibur.
So here she is:
Well, Deadline is a day away, and only one pic in? If everyone is busy and wants to do this activity let me know (pm) and I'll extend it another week.
But Damn- I busted on dCepT in multiple threads, tossed in a great piece, can't leave a fellow artist hanging in there by himself. I hope to see more.
i think it would suffice if you made the deadline weekend....i kinda have a hard time keeping track of all the various deadlines(c.o.w.,sketchtrade...)
I agree. I don't have many deadlines to keep up with on CA, but it would definitely simplify things if it always started on a Sunday or Monday and ended the following Sunday. I could probably even whip up my idea this weekend, since I'll have my exams over with.
Apologies for posting yet another "I'm in on next week's" post, but.. well... Hot Damn! I'm in on next week's! Awesome thread idea, hershey, I was wonderin' if there were any newbie-friendly competitions (with admittedly phenomenal participants )
Ok, well since everyone asked- I'll extend the deadline to saturday night. Sunday will begin a new activity, and that's the schedule we'll be working on for here on out. Hope that works.
extended untill 18th?
well dude i just got into this thread, and il make something, and il follow this thread untill its dead.
there are no winners announced or anything?
there's no winning-rick just gives us pointers about what would be important if that were real briefings.
rick-fine by me.
manslauter- Ideally you all our competing with each other, but there are no said winners. If you think about it like this it helps: If all artists that participate in the activity were going for the same job, who would the publisher hire based off the same samples subject wise? The activity is really a teaching ground for people to help improve their work and also to have fun, to learn to work based off a set of rules and be as creative as they can under those guidlines.
Carnifex- I'm so going to draw better boobs then you
greets! i've already introduced myself on other forums but here goes
i'm sean, a 15 year old graphic design student from london, great britain. hopefully i'll be taking part in more activities from now on
ehh. it doesnt really look like a post-apocalyptic alice, more like a kickass and chew bubblegum alice form today. but nyeh!
main influences: girl from the resi evil 2 film, and lady from devil may cry 3. aand yuffie from final fantasy VII
again, apologies. this is the first time i have ever tried to properly ink something. i'll do it bigger next time. note: i didn't finish it. i'm aware that her hand looks strange, the grenade looks totally off, and the gun in the holster under her skirt is unfinished. but please, crits appreciated
oh, and after much thinking, i decided not to draw the rest of her other arm
If we've got 'til saturday, I'll probably noodle a bit more on her... That's ok, tho, right?
Haha, this sounds like fun.
Here's a quick scetch of Alice and you can also see the killer bunny from the pre-war goverment's top secret super soldier program besides her. I took the basic disney Alice and gave her a pair of desert eagles, headset and a gasmask. I drew this in about 30 mins against a book on my lap, and started to screw up things while inking the lower part and didn't bother to finish it. But anyways, here it is:
ah, screw it. I'm in for this week's.
Here's my quick rabbit. Didn't quite know how to post-apocalyptise him, so I gave him an arm spike, beasty claws and a helmet thing.
I kind of stole the watch on a chain idea from lightchaser... didn't realise until just then that he'd done it... must be selective memory
EDIT:Grayscaled and in.. this is my first real attempt at any type of digital colouring outside of comic style, and I don't have a working mouse, so it's been done on touchpad. That's why it's patchy , I can't tolerate the touchpad for long enough to try and do it well... it's pretty much laying down the shades and highlights on a base grey and making extensive use of the smudge tool. Hope ya like.

great! i'll try to get mine in on Saturday. I just saw this like two days ago and started immediately on some designs. I got working versions of Alice, The White Rabbit, The Cheshire Cat, The Mad Hatter, The Caterpillar, and the Queen of Hearts.
awesome work so far guys. hope i can contribute a little bit to this.
Havent been on for a bit, so here is some of my offerings
just wanted to try a quick piece... stopped at about an hour and half.
- machzero, the thumbs down gets a thumbs down. it really doesn't read well. in fact, I couldn't figure out what her hand was doing until I saw the larger version. try and get some ref. for that one.
I Can't Stand People That Can't Spell.
zeb, gotcha... the entire "right" arm was bugging me was I posted it. Referencing a mirror now. Jiust hoping I don't end up with two left hands.
Finally some time to draw. I'll start sketching out the various concepts I have and thumbnailing in a short while, hopefully I'll come up with something worthwile to show before the deadline
GasTank - I really like the Mad Hatter idea, but all of your pieces could use some more detailing. Could be much more interesting if you gave it more effort.
Dan1989 - post... cute? I like the picture and technique, I'm just not entirely sure about the convention. I had something different in mind, and your Alice could be a poor girl who found a buried rocket launcher somewhere, while the Rabbit could just as well be a victorian take on the character. Just throwing out ideas here.
Lightchaser - nice and clean, I like it. Again, Alice doesn't look too post apocalyptic (fresh clothes, more or less modern headset and guns). Lovely Rabbit, though, pity you didn't ink it. Reminds me of a nasty Gremlin.
dCepT - good job. Only thing is the thickness of her legs bothers me somewhat, and I'm not entirely sure, but they seem a tad bit too short compared to her torso and head (or the other way around).
tie - looks pretty much right to me concerning the 'post-apocalyptic' factor, if it wasn't for the boots. Could be just me, but they look like they're in a flashy colour and shined real well, which doesn't really go with the rest.
machzero - while you're reworking that arm and hand, you could also look at HER left knee; it seems to be too far to the outside (our right). Other than that, I like.
tried fixing the "right arm". Will leave the original with the mistakes.
aremah - the knee is right, it's just I messed up the shading on the entire lower shin area. Needs to be darker to indicate the knee is forward. But I didn't notice my mistake til you mentioned it. Thanks for the heads-up.
thanks to zeb too!
edit> ack... new right arm is casting no shadow... ah well.
