b - what can i say? she has bad taste, but she's paying.
quick environment, and a little more progress: poster flip for composition.
taking a break to work on...other portraits.
oh, and check out the Virtual Art Academy...some SERIOUS learning tools over there. just learned something new and awesome about color and form...
*edit - maa, i'll include an update too.

coming on great! the eyes need a little more life in them.
Diggin' the Ditch?
hmm i think the eyes need a little more contrast...right now she's looking a bit like a twilight char.
the last one looks best because it's the warmest, usually ppl like paintings of themselves to be warm and happy hehe. but tone down the yellows in the hand and shoes.
the whole eye. especially the pupil/colored area. even if the photo looks that way just remember to use a little creative license
lol um this is twilight, it's the latest teen obsession haha
i guess what i mean to say is, she needs a lot more color in her face, she just looks very washed out.
this might be a bit too saturated, i just did it really quick. both are paintovers but right side has some more highlights.
~i think the teeth are bit too light. i just put it in shadow but i would definitely darken them a little.
~she might have puffy undereyelids but i would suggest taking a little creative license to soften it up to make her look younger
~darkened the hair a little bit in the shadow areas
~added some more light in the eyes
feel free to ignore hehe, i just think they're just some pointers for a softer girlier image. and sorry if i got the skintone wrong...wasn't quite sure the ethnicity.
emz - thx for all your help dude! softened some of it, knocked the teeth back slightly (she had wanted them lighter when i was painting it, they were much darker originally), put some more color in the face, and added nose and eye highlights. for the rest of is, i'll have the printer work with it, since his monitors are better. again, thx.
thx to all who helped. gonna go with some tweaks from one of these two, most likely.
definitely the less bright one. now that i'm looking on another comp i realized my PO was a bit too bright.
be sure to post a pic of the final print! who gets you to do these?
emz - thx sooooooooooooo much for the crits, the PO, everything; you were soooo helpful! iirc, we ended up knocking back the lighter one, and doing some minor adjustments. sooooo glad that i reworked my monitors before working on this one, it helped soooooo much, tons less postwork to be done. i don't have a camera (i forgot where i put it, lol) to capture the full-size print, but maybe i'll find something if i look. anyway, i scanned the proof, so this is what it should look like, only bigger and much clearer. at the moment, for my "official" portraits, i have been working pretty much word-of-mouth, trying to build up my portfolio. so the last one was for a family friend; this past one was for my bank teller; she saw my gallery and wanted me to do one of her. so i did. and, i'm really REEEEEALLY happy with how it came out. and thanks to you, it came out even better. but yeah, i take customers where i can get. you buying?
i printed it, honest...here's the proof!
funny ha ha.
nice work - much better now
Diggin' the Ditch?
ditch - thx! it loks REEEEALLY good printed out...hopefully i can get a good picture.
final batch of scans for now...course, i have a bunch of other stuff to scan now. lol. that will come in time...
The new faces/heads look great And congrats on finishing that painting! I am slowly getting back to drawing/posting and I hope to rejoin the sketch group sometime after new years. I'll be following along on the thread and participate in the drawing topics you guys are posting. Keep posting man, it's a real inspiration for me
emz - thx dude! yep, it's from starbucks. i'm trying to start doing more painting from life, to help my speed and my portrait work. i feel like my commission stuff is waaaaaaay cartoony, and i'm not necessarily going for that. so i want to be able to expand my skills and my styles, and at least have some more control over it. more work to go. your stuff's coming along great dude, keep it up!
zhonked - thx!!! it'll be YAAAAAAY to have you back dude, can't wait.
finally...back to the mfa. moar figurz.
hey man! Your stuff is still looking very tight and you even improved a few levels
This isespescially nice: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1258452021
You did that from head?
faust - good to see you on again, my friend. thx for the compliment! i feel like some things are getting better, some things are not really. but, that means keep working, right? the head is from John Asaro's "Planes of the Head" booklet. i was looking into getting one of those heads to copy...still thinking about it, but not enough money at the moment (it's like, $95 for a head, or something like that). anyway, glad you are back, hope to see more from you. talk soon.
more from starbucks, and some heads, courtesy of crayola and my inner child. thx for da visit? not a question though.
Oh yeah! Those studies from life are really doin it. Love them. It seems you're strong working from life, and quite confident too. Loving the sketches in pen. Such an unforgiving medium forces you to think about your marks before you lay them down. I love pen
seage - thx man! honestly, i think working from imagination helps soooooo much in working from life, cause it helps me see, and it's easier to abstract and simplify certain things. but, i reeeally need to work more from my imagination...i haven't been doing that as much recently, and i don't want to get out of practice. i'll have to do more with that. pen is pretty awesome man, i must agree. it also helps deciding not to erase in pencil (unless it's like, a commissioned piece or something). if you mess up, really, what does it matter? it's a learning experience, and it helps remind what to pay attention to next time. hope this helps. thx for stopping by again, and for the message dude. keep up the good work on your side; catch you soon!
another crayola creation!
I like the angle and expression. he looks so calm. One thing though. Think about the ears position. It getas harder to nail when working with strange angles. The ear could be a bit bigger and futher down to the right. Hope to se more from imagination soon.
Take care bro!
yeah, some of the placement looks a little off, but the planes look good!
Diggin' the Ditch?
Dude your colors! It's always a delight to see them, they alone make your pictures heartwarming. The features of the last face are somewhat strange, though. The face is kind of flat (But maybe he's an asian guy) but the nose is way too far down! Heads from that perspective are a killer! You pulled that better of than I could haha!
b - tooootally. the picture is a little off, actually, cause of the angle i took it at. but, the angle probably made it look better than it is, so the placement's probably TOOOTALLY off. oh well...back to the drawing board, i guess.
d - thx dude. i really like the eyes, and especially the form of the nose, but the rest is kinda...meh
f - thx man! haha; yeah, it's an asian guy, but yeah, his face is like, sunken in. not good. more work to do, still at the grind. thx though. i'll keep working to get better.
face is too long and not wide enough though.
