damn good stuff, mate.
I knew I loved your stuff. That Christmas card is really cute. Give me s'more!
Rook - thanks for the input. As you saw, I changed it a bit on the final printed card. I think the glitter worked well ^_^
Oreg - Thanks!
Hito: Awh, thank you There's rarely much to see in my sketchbook since I usually sketch on marker paper at my table as of late. That stuff just makes love to col-erase pencils. and OH! Tell Kiril to email me ASAP!!!
Carnifex - Is this what you meant? http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58074
Caledonian - See above Happy Holidays to you as well!
young_paddy - thank you so much ^_^
jtheanswer - thanks so much, comments like that make me get off my ass and do more life drawing... well, in theory. I'm such a lazy turd >_<
interceptor - Thank you! Thread's easy to miss, I hardly update X_x
blkn - thank you!
crazy - will do my best!
Zebz - Thanks much!
This is shamelessly cross posted from the Sketches section, but hell, I double-dipped in college, I can do it now!
I need more turns for the 'folio, so here is Sutefu.
crits, crits, crits! I am doing one more pass on this series, then inking the final drawing in vectors. How's it look?
AWWW the horse eating the tree is absolutel gorgeous! Nice style.
Crits about the turnsheet character...
I believe she has a Scorpio over her head, or??? I thinks you should make the scorpios eyes waaaaaaay smaller. Even though it is cute to have big eyes, too many of them next to each others makes it look disturbing. Especially if you want your girls´ eyes to show more, now the five others are distracting too much. Otherwise good. Liking it.
I REALLY digged your animal sketches, the penguins, the other birds (with the sepia ink especially!), and the cuteness of the crhristmassy pics in the end of 2nd page. And I think you should try to finish the game, looked too nice to abandon!!! Your elephant sketches for that were SOOO coool!
Will be back, okay?
I really like how I can feel the shapes with your stuff. You have a really great fullness with your drawings. plus I am like your style. The pic of the unicorn and the tree is fantastic.
wow nice one theses are excellent, i do have one crit, now as far as 2d animation goes i think its pretty mcuh set, from a 3d perspective the 3/4 view is not a clear ortho, you have a little bit of a top down perspective when it comes to the shoes and the elipses of the glasses may be a tad off, but thats nitpicking, these are awesome.
you probably get this all the time, but your avatar is freakin' cool! did you do it? i LOOOOVE animation
i have yet to look right through your SB, but i've seen enough to know how much i like your stuff..... i really like your style/s
i can't think of anything to critique at the moment so asspats for now
your christmas card is mighty cute, and that board game design is really nice, be sure to post the finished version, i'd love to see it. i also really like your turn around character sheet(and the poses and stuff from the first page)...is this for 3D modeling or animation....or just getting the character idea firmly in your head, btw her tuft of hair is missing in the three-quarter view.....(so is the badge/medal)
i'd love to see more of your stuff here, keep it up, i'll be stopping by often
fooxoo: Thank you! She seems to be kind of popular, even after the holidays
Patch: Thank you, I hope to get out and do some more soon!
Hiipi: Agree with you about the eye problem. I'm in the vector stage now (see below) and can mess with that more freely. I hope to be posting some eye/color variants in the next couple of weeks. Thank you SO much for taking the time to pick the turns apart, I am struggling to find good feedback on them!
ATLAS: Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear that my characters can hold a sense a volume, hopefully it's reading that way in the turns too.
Rook: You think? How would you remedy the shoes?
Kronos: Actually, you're the first to comment on the avatar! Yup, I animated him; it's a cycle from my puppet animation final. You can see it here if you are so inclined: http://flyingclam.com/animation The board game is on hold and I might end up doing the most unprofessional thing ever and drop that project, after it is MONTHS overdue. -___- I just don't have the time to focus on it.
Carnifex: That it is! Or as my roomie calls her, STFU!
Ok, I'm here to prove that I still have an art pulse. I managed to squeak out a couple of spare-time pieces during the week.
For a thread at ocremix.com; basically you just draw someone from the forums (might be cool to do in the lounge here!) and this is my contribution:
Next, some doodles while waiting for the bus at Harvard Square; I need to work on my gestures and shading. Badly.
Finally, I've started vectoring Sutefu. I was going to post this in the Sketches/WIP section, but I want to wait until I have all 4 poses inked. You can see I have also discovered the magical gradient tool, so I want to play around with different shading styles.
Having issues with the goggles and the stoopid tail. DFSAHKJHGDFJGAHKJAGDHKJ. Argh, better.
Please share any thoughts and be mean in your crits if you like. Just as long as your helpfully mean.
you forgot to colourize her eyes beneath the goggles in the second view.
otherwise lovely as ever.
but whytf you change your name?
toxic waste boy is excellent i love that drawing many much
gestures: When your shading your gestures try avoiding cross hatching jes once, you know try it out and instead shade a flat surface all in one direction, maybe define your shadows with a line first. Might help, might also not at all. And my final point there floating a little, drop in a shadow beneath yoru characters and youl get a whole diffrent effect and really ground them, even if its not a big shadow, throw in some bits of grit and dots on the ground that should help.
Turnarounds: Oy think, about your colour theory! im assuming the middle un is the only finished un, which is fine. But why is your shadow, so much more saturated then your mass light, thats the amin thing that throws me off. Look at your shoes, cool down the green alot not so saturated and rich.
Also i know its a style choice but i think the harsh line of the original colour is hurting it and throwing off the sense light and shadow, making it flat, if you stretched those gradients to the edges i think it would help alot.
still im being hella harsh cause you asked for it, stil really awesome work
Wow! Lots of stuff here I haven't seen!
The sketches from Harvard Sq are tight! How did you know that chick was thinking of a hamsteak? You've gotten really good with being loose with your lines constructing the form. Nicely done with working the shading in without making the form too stiff.
waay. you gotta update more often!
Self-improvement is masturbation, Self-destruction on the other hand....
fox: Thanks much!
Carnifex: Yeah, I caught that too. In the current WIP, her eyes are outlined in brown ^_^ And uh, I changed my name so that people can remember it - a name like "Laberis" is tough to pronounce, spell and remember.
Icey: Honestly, I agree with you 100%. Part of the challenge I'm facing is preserving that charm while I clean things up. It's damn hard and for this round I think I'll just have to work with vectors for what they are, rather than fight to make them feel more like sketches. Time will tell which media works out better!
Rook: This character was inspired by poor color theory, remember? I might yellow out the green and make the red a bit more orange in the next pass. And yes, the shadows need much work.
Bumskee: Thanks man!
Biocreep: Thank you as well, awesome of you to pop in and comment ^_^
Sera: Thanks hon! And I could tell she was thinking of a hamsteak cuz um... well, who doesn't think of those at bus stops?
Calle: Doing my best, I promise!
Ok, here we are then! I have some pages from museum trips:
A really neato Asian bird perch and candle holder made from a root:
And a sketch of the dragon carvings in the wooden shudders of the Yin Yu Tang house:
...still not where I want to be in terms of form and shading. I need to hatch more often...
Anyway, my sketchbook wouldn't be complete without the angsty self portrait chibi brigade! These are some doodles for a comic idea I have in my head, about my delicous adolescence, growth as an artist and despite the style, my sexuality. Not sure if I'll be posting the final result here though
...despite the presence of his likeness, Akai Ruku himself will not be in this comic.
And as promised, HAWT CHICKS!
So very, very sexy ^_^ That's to get back at everyone who said my sketchbook was too cute. HAH.

Ya know not sure how I missed this thread before, but I must say happy I found it hehe. Your sketches and gestures floored me, absolutely amazing stuff. Also the diversity in your work is pretty amazing as well; looks like you can do realistic really well, but you also have a really cool cartoony style under your belt as well. gah inspirational stuff all around great work, keep it up!
nice one hon, these are great, thereas a beavar! and a rattie on the naughty hat! awesome. Museum sketches are great the african hunting dog and his speech bubble made me laugh your selfportraits are really good... you know the smiling one is my favourite by far.
and the brides... well they are jes LOADED with sex, i think you need to put an explicit content warning on your thread im not sure how minors would handel it
Ohh! Ohh! An update!
Beautiful work as always! The chicks are totally hot! They're really something that I wouldn't see you drawing..... Which is great! Yay for trying new things.... (feh...something we should *all* take example from )
You look so sad in all your self portraits.... The only one smiling is Rook. O__o;;
*downloads and saves to "special" place*
awesome stuff you got here. an update from you is like a birthday, awesome but not often enough!!
anyway, i really like those hot chicks! hehe awesome characters. you really do have a great skill for character design. where do i sign up for the comic?
nice to see you doing life drawngs. that pen looks like a nightmare to use, atleast for me (i hate pen). but you pulled it off nicely. the lil dog head at the top is my fave, simplest and loosest. you pulled the look of the dog in minimum lines. the sp's are cool. the one with you actually smiling is best : ]
awesome stuff all rounds, but you need to post mooooooree!!!
looking forward to the next batch : ]
those last ones are freakin hilarious.
