OK I know this picture is really bad and everything and I am totally fed up with it I just want it to be finished so I can move on to somehtig better. My main gripe is wuith the building that SHE is on. It looks so bland... much less interesting thasn the rest of the picture. Any ideas??? Please I'm about to shoot myself!!
All help greatly appreciated, thankyou.
mabey try working on your lights and darks a bit more, theres so many highlights in this picture my eyes just wander around the whole piece. Mess around with different color tones for the wall, add some details in there too (cracks, ect)
I think your main problem is your source of light, mess around with values more. also, mabey try to spreading some color of the sky around the city, and the foreground with the building and character. Personally, id just start on a new piece if this ones driving you nuts...but try to continue with it, mabey youll find something your comfortable with soon enough.
First off, ur shading is too smudgy, just makes the image look too messy, especially if u want the image to look finished. If u want the wall to look less bland, why not try adding some bricks, cracks, loose cement, decals, weeds, anything like that to it, or perhaps just a bit of texture. You could have a look at some traditional pattern designs and perhaps implement some onto the wall to create interest? I also think ya got way too much black goin on there bub, u never get black shadows on the skin etc, it just makes the whole image very dull, perhaps a lick of colour like a sunset or so?
The composition looks pretty balanced to me and works well, but there is a bit of an empty space of nothing smack bang in the middle of the pic. Possibly extending her hair in the wind might fix that, or perhaps another half cloud hidden behind the building.
Anyway good luck dude, im sure u will finish it how u want it lol
ya see, the mountains in the background are so smoggy i thought they were clouds of pollution. You need more colors, reflections, and values.
I agree, use more colors man, really give us some contrast, and give us a light source, that when people look at it, we can tell automatically where the light is coming from.
I don't pray because I don't want God to know where I'm at.
Wow guys thankyou so much, everybody who posted thanks a lot. This was a very problematic piece for me because its like the first time I've tried doing a totally full illustration; that is, a character interacting with a background all in color. But I've learned a lot and feel like I've progressed. Think I'll put it away for a while then look back at it in a couple of months and want to kill myself for how bad it is :E
