thanks for the quick tut man. your stuff has gotten phenomonally better (while my spelling still suffers) i cant give any really solid crit at the moment but its great to see what you have been up to. actually ok one crit on the bump in the night kid. its creepy but i think it can be a helluva lot more creepy. maybe some nice boils on the torso or an ear with a bite outta it...(just brainstorming) some possible variation in the catipillar half of the baby, cracks or uneven shell formations...take what i have to say with a grain of thought though. its just to me that for the hint of creepyness that your giving it the drawing looks a little to symmetrical and clean for this kind of concept. i do want to say that these drawings are hot and i love your rendering style. peace.
nice.. thanks man...i owe u one
would it be possible to take a close up pic of the centipede part of the baby so i can get a better idea of your hatching....i love the clean look.. love love love love love it
. thanks again for taking the time to reply..
damn dude, its been a while since i've seen your sketches, very sexy. - rudy
12.7.04 horror concept - pencil sketch / photoshop cs
12.8.04 horror turn around - 0.5 mechanical lead on printer paper
this one is still a work in progress.
thanks rude, hope you and your family is well
here ya go:
thanks for the comments and input bro. to tell you the truth i was going for something clean. two reasons behind this. A) the initial plan was to tweak a small area of my subject as a juxtaposition against normal proportions. i knew that this type of approach would most likely create that uneasy feeling i wanted. B) i trusted my ability to make something turn weird, and i thought it turned out nicely. onto the next, thanks again dude.
Great stuff! I enjoy your sketches.. and pretty much all of your artwork very much . I was wondering.. what school is it you are going to. At the moment I am a senior in highschool and so far applied to SCAD, and planning on apply to Rhode Island, and Atlanta College of Art... those are basically the few good art colleges I know of. Very interested to learn what others are out there, and which of them are good for concept art.
Hey Killing, that last painting is scary as fuck. Would have been nice in Doom. Keep going with the trip you're on!
you are insane! ... i liek IT!!!!
This was amazing watchin your progress with this guy. All the different posses and the pencil and colored version, all is great. I have no doubt in my mind you will be successful with the career you are pursuing! Great style man, keep it up! Gonna go make folder in my inspiration files, cya!

wow killing, great job on the centi-baby. I turned out really creepy, an with Christmas colors to boot.
I also liked your explanation of the hatching technique, i'll tell people to come here in the future if they ask about it. And speaking of that you did a tremendous job controlling the marks, they are all parallel with each other but going in the right directions to describe the form. I don't think I have that much control over them, which is probably why I end up doing allot of crosshatching.
r u now going to make a model of the baby?
awesome posts dude, always a pleasure.
I was wondering where your crazy cool sketches ran off to! I've been missing your stuff, man! This is great too! I love how fluid the character seems! You've really got that action pose down (the one where he's leaping in the air). Creepy, creepy stuff. How do you sleep at night with that imagination?! Keep it up, man.
wow, those colors are great, perfect match to the creepness of teh baby.
thanks kill... that stuff looks awsome.. the colors looks creepy.. i had no idea christmas colors could be so uneasy feeling
you are the man!
by far the scariest kid i have ever seen.
let it be.

HA! check this maddening movie out! HERE! - here are more david hartman movies: HERE!

this is an animation of my apocalyptic sniper lifting a box. i really enjoyed myself animating this. and holy shit animation is hard! much respect to those crazy animators.
thanks dude, there is no desire to model this fetus of satan at this time

N & B
gaddam... you're awsome. managing time to do both drawing and 3d animation.
ive been watching your stuff for a while
you are making very good progress i think
i commented on your animation at polycount (me=shotgun)
your drawings have improved a lot as well
keep it up
i think the painting u did of the baby maggot isnt as strong as the b&w version. i feel u may have been a little careful with the colors and brushes, and didnt let your personal style and abilties loose on the canvas
Honest love makes one's soul a reflection of the partner's mood.
No sleep - More draw!
laughed my ass off. MAGICK HAUS rules. thanks for that link, this movie made my day. I second everybody's opinion, great progress. I love you horror concept, great execution.
Killing--very nice animation. I'm impressed--lots of realistic movements and some good quirks.
I must mention, however, that view 2 reads better than view 1. This is because in view 1, we cannot see him get his left hand fully underneath the box for that extra heave before he sets it down. So view 1 reads a little funny at that part--it looks like he magically gets extra strength or something.
But from view 2, we can't see the head jerk as clearly. Dangiiiiit! I wish there was a best of both worlds.
anyways, just wanted to say "good job"
wow impressive, love the detail shot.
Color and pencil are both very nice
I also like your hatching very much
Looks like you are using mech-pencil right ?
How do you do when you need a grey tonal, shading with mech-pencil make the shad very unconstant don't u feel ?
You are a patient man! Your meticulous rendering must indeed soak up a lot of concentration. The results are nice, however, so it pays off.
The finished creepy kid painting is excellent. The coloring is superb. Did I mention the kid's creepy? Cause he is.
You seem to be a good all-rounder. I admire that.
Thanks for keeping this sketchbook.
Ra Havok, emily g, Jeff Jaws, Eyal, hito, one2hit thank you all very much for your comments
as i noted, i have been using a 0.5 mechanical pencil as of late.
your question had enticed me to jot down different concepts i use to show you how i shade with a pencil. mechanical pencil has its limitations. the reason i enjoy using a "mech-pencil" is because i would prefer to have a sharp edge at any given time. be aware that these rendering rules shared are constantly scrutinized by myself and are based off of my knowledge and liking.
if anyone has any suggestions or would like to chime in with certain things they have become made aware of, it would be very grateful.
some personal notes on how i render with a mechanical pencil
hey man, thats an interesting little layout. Just wanted to chime in some thanks for posting it. That animation is dope too. What does "draw without greed" mean?
I self-published a book on the fundamentals of drawing from life.
I just got a AHA! moment, thank u killing. I actually took the time to a grab pencil and a paper to follow your hatching tutorial, And I just got a feeling of how it actually works. Your read it and keep hearing it, to follow your strokes along or across the form but u cant see it even though its right in front of you.
Thank you so much for shareing!
12.22.2004 mushies - model: max7 textures: photoshopCS
12.23.2004 quick touch up on the under-belly of the little reynolds blacktop mushie, hehe.
see the skull on the purple one?
i haven't started a project to never finish in a while, so now is as good as any.
the idea is to somehow make a pointless demo that involves my bob-goblin that i had almost finished, running around, being all kinds of nasty in a forest or something.
ideally, from the top of a high ledge will grow a thick pumpkin or mellon patch that can be plucked from and carried away and then tossed below to where bob could try to skewer them onto young trees fasioned into wooden stakes or into water or whatever.
i don't know what program to use for the interactive side of things just yet. i would like to see him running around in a 3d space. i'll see if i can stay interested in creating the assets.
it totally will never get done, but there you have it.
12.24.04 a holy albino pumpkin - max7 & photoshopCS
glad you found those notes useful dude.
"draw without greed" is a motto of mine. i first started writing it in my sketchbooks years ago. i can't define it because i never had, it wouldn't be right - i hope that will make sense to you. i have refered to it in many different ways, so it has many useful messages that are to be pointed inward at yourself.
Great tutorial Cory. It's good to see the technique outlined so clearly - you really hit the mark on what not to do. Esp. since I still do some of the "yuuck" moves sometimes.
Now I can shake some nasty habits.
Cool mushrooms man. I'm pretty envious of your abitlity to make awesome 2d AND 3d. Keep trucking.
Awsome stuff man! I really really love your sic style.
^keep me going by visiting my sketchbook^
