well, I guess its time I posted something in the finally finished section... it's a self portrait with a bit of meaning.
Has a "mind's eye" thing going on.... c&c welcome
Here's the photoshop mock-up I did before I did the final:
I just started small, enlarged it, printed it out on a few pages and used that to guide me with the final... I did change a few things in the process of transfering the image. Also, this was all done with permanant makers because I'm cheap.
Creates an interesting sence of motion.
Utter absence of mouth bothers me though.
Got any more?
the absense of the mouth is on purpose... its suppose to describe the kind of person I am. I'm not one to speak his mind through words but through what I see... through images... plus my vocabulary sucks ass and I'm dumb LOL.
Hate to break to you, but everyone i know at one point drew a dude with no mouth trying to make a statement. I think it became a cliche at this pointthe absense of the mouth is on purpose... its suppose to describe the kind of person I am. I'm not one to speak his mind through words but through what I see...
Now, using something to seal the mouth shut - that could get interesting.
I don't mean to bash, just sharing ideas.
np.... I actually had a zipper there at one point, but it just didn't go well with the facial hair... kinda got mixed up with things... plus I think I just drew it kind of stupid.
and yeah... I know the zipper is cliche too :p
Nice. I'm kind of curious, Why all the northwest indian based symbolism and color choices?
thanks Inspector Lee... actually there's no real story behind the NW Indian tribal designs (I mean I'm not part Indian or anything like that)... other than the fact that I live in the NW and a also lil while ago I was researching this stuff (specifically Haida Indian designs) for a job I was working on... I just fell in love the the style and the flow and the imagery... I don't know, I was just doing this portrait for the gallery show the seattle sketch group is putting together... I just didn't want to do a boring old portrait, I wanted some style, some meaning behind it.
I like it - alot! Very creative, graphic, moving, disturbing yet calming.
The PNW tribal styling and color choices really stand out and should stand out very nicely in the gallery (wherever that gallery may be) with the other portraits. Have you considered inking/painting in the red veins in the top most eye? Keeping consistent throught, I guess is what I'm getting at.
Let me know where the portrait will be posted, okay?
There is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "i" in meat pie. Meat is the anagram of team...~Shaun "Shaun of the Dead"
sup lou, i think this is one awesome portrait man. kudos on stepping out of the norm. its fresh man....fresh fresh a licious. i hope you do a couple more before the show, i have a hard time imagining your work not selling bro.
i got 2 words for all of you: This is ill, yo!
I self-published a book on the fundamentals of drawing from life.
redehlert - I started out by outlining the veins... I had planned on filling them in (as seen in the rough), but I stood back and looked over it again and thought it looked better without being filled... I just think it makes more sense considering that the veins are suppose to be thin... plus I thought a lil variety wouldn't hurt
Jetpack - thanks man, I actually do plan on doing a few more for the show... especially since I just found out that it won't take place till February (i think) instead of December like I thought it was gonna... so I got alot more time
I really like it. Just using two colors over a background worked surprisingly nicely. The portrait is solid too. Just one thing I noticed is the ear on the right seems significantly smaller than the one on the left. It kinda jumped out at me. But it may be the hair is covering it? i dont know.
Nonetheless, great piece overall.
Keep on Drawin'...
Actually the hair is covering it a little bit plus I just think I fucked up.... but I'll just blame it on some wierd perspective I was aiming for LOL.
