Beautiful work, McLean. I especially like how you handle light in your drawings. Yet another artist from CA to inspire me.
Going back to your toned paper sketchbook, you said you could only find it at your school. What brand is it? I've been looking for a good one for a while now.
Oh my love em all, just wish I could view them all. The first page some aren't loading. Seen your huntress drawing in the finished section too..it's great love the colors.
Also what sketchbook are using to do the first couple of sketches on the colored paper? I want to get a me a sketchbook with some tanned paper like that.
Anyways fantastic stuff!
you know, the book doesn't have a brandname/company name on it, its just a plain brown sketchbook with a black canvas spine. sorry, i wish I could be more helpful.
well, here're some more drawings, a little bit different for me, and fun too.
pretty fuckin amazing I say. Those last posts are killer. Have you ever thought about having a show or putting some of your work in galleries?
I really like your style!
Wow, I find these drawings pretty exciting. (Machine warrior is awesome!)
I love the pencil of the guy with the lion (is that a study? of a photograph? statue?). Its all bold and clear.
Got any tips for developing pencil skills? General Art Skills?
hazamataz- the drawing of Samson with the Lion was a statue, directly from reference (and it was damn hot out, I almost passed out once or twice- no joke) Pencil skills? I guess what I've been thinking about lateley is how every mark you make should describe direction of form and value at the same time. I don't know it that makes sense as a stand-alone comment.
Iconophobian- sweetness, are you a student at ringling? or know him some other way?
afgal- thanks buddy
Orozco- I've considered it for my future, but as it stands now, I don't have the body of work needed, nor have I acquired the skill level needed (in my mind). But thats a really motivating compliment! thanks. I'll get there faster with such positive encouragement.
you got cool stuff here !! I think you will done something really good
uuh wtf ur good... haha those last pencils are re.dac.u.las!!!!!

Nice figure work. And those paintings are dope. The last one with the trees has a good sense of lighting. The portraits are super nice as well, the girls hairline receeds a bit too much, but still cool none the less. Can't wait to see more.
the deamon with the wings looking up -> very nice!
now make some more damn it!
"you don't do your job, I'll kill you myself"
Nice paintings. Like the one with three handed guy a lot. Reminded me of the Sandman.
Its GREAT to see a balance between the ref and non ref stuff, like, really great! Cause you don't see that often, your ref stuff is much stronger than your non ref stuff, but thats not the point. Because I can see you're progressing well...
Gorgeous ! I remember you from the Reznor portrait, but didn't know you had a sketchbook... Until now ! yay ! Gorgeous, your studies are from the best I have saw lately. The finished ones... Wow !
Keep posting the good stuff.
Recursive End- thanks bud
Blog- you're right, inventing out of my head is something i still struggle with, but I'm keeping at it!
Alday.J- I'm flattered that you would remember a piece of mine in this sea of artwork that is CA.org- thanks a bunch.
This is my entry for the CHOW- the theme is Dreamcatcher!!
Insomnia has taken hold of the emperor. After weeks of sleep deprivation he converts one third of his military and magical branch into "dream-catchers," to find and collect dream spirits to facilitate his rest. Awimalich is the most ambitious of all the converted soldiers, with a family of 11 children to feed. This ambition leads him to the higher ranks of the dreamcatch faction. As he earns the gratitude of the emperor, something stirs in the outskirts of the land. Nightmare, mother of all dreams, is angry. She will act on behalf of her children as well...
You have great control over your medium. These all look professional.
Your CHOW rocks, dude ! Made sense for me when I read "Dreamcatcher", looks so obvious. Well done from the topic to the execution. Cheers.
WOOT for 5 stars McBoom, and your Chow doesn't look like anything i've seen you do which is AWESOME, i'm glad your trying new things~*
