I have been lurking here for a while and finally decided to register. a couple of friends and myself have decided to try and get into the designer toy market and wanted to post one of our rough ideas to see what you guys think about him. any comments are appreciated! the model is still a little rough and i haven't done any paints in photoshop yet. will try and post those as we do them. he was inspired by and old steamshovel, and has a back-story that i am currently working on. he will have a paint job similar to an old b52 bomber or a luftwaffe aircaraft. i think just for fun i am going to do a shelby mustang version as well, lol.
as for the sharp edges (and the sarcasm ) its for the designer toy market. i.e. vinyl, pvc, kidrobot.com, wootini.com. they are toys aimed at collectors and adults (some call it "urban toys"). hope that helps with the market placement. and not at all trying to be rude or sarcastic(seriously) but toys and cartoons and such typically are squash and stretch and super-deformed. the whole premise is powerful jaws and machinery and steam shovels and such. the head is the focus of the entire piece. maybe i'll post some other views, since the head looks a little bigger coming slightly forward. i'll also play with the idea a bit more...
thanks for the compliments! yes i believe we'd like to come in WAY under 50... depending on costs i'd love to come in around 20-30 dollars. The head is the most important part to me, so i would love to have it articulate up and down and side to side (and possibly have the jaw open and close) we are working to see if we like the legs with any other joint at the knees, other wise he may only have articulation at the hip and feet. and finally i would like to have the tail with at least one rotation point, possibly two. the rings on his steam tank body make it easy to hide those joints i think.
again, thanks for the comments, and i will be sure to post any new stuff we do with him!
i would love to do him 7-8 inches high, but we'll see i guess. money really starts to pile up after the first 6in! :-) but we're really trying to gauge interest since he would be our first mass produced toy. we'll see. but if we don't mass produce him, we may do limited run of 10-20 or so. if it happens that way, missmonster, i'll keep yours at thirty for being the first person to show genuine interest... hell maybe we'll GIVE him to you! and i'll do a custom paint just for the one-off. thanks for the support and the positive responses! i'll get the "paints" up as soon as i can!
