Hello and welcome everybody, nice to meet you!
I'm an 18 year old male who hasnīt touched a pencil since ..well, I registered.. I will change that now !
I want to be a professional someday, but I know that I still have a long road ahead of me.
My main reasons for this thread is to see my progress and to motivate me, as well as getting critiques.
From now on I will "draw" regulary. I do paint "digitally" since three days now.
My goal is to become better than Iīm at the moment!

Glad to see you're working hard! I too am on a journey to be a better artist! Have you ever tried reading the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain?" I am working through it right now and it's doing wonders for me! I think it's a great first step, as it can help you to get more out of doing figures, anatomy, or other more in-depth studies. The book is all about how to get into the right mindset to draw and ways of perceiving the world as an artist. I just thought based on your work that it could be good for where you are! Keep practicing, and don't forget to do some longer timed drawings too! Cheers!

My Sketchbook Thread
Thank you for the suggestion Hendecagoner. Your seem to be also working quite hard. I actually stumbled on the book "drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" and others while looking for good art books for beginners on Amazon. I wasnīt sure if I should buy it at that time. Maybe I will buy it now, while wachting you getting better!
Back to drawing: Iīll update my SB in the next four days. I will probably post some sketches then, and explain what I will draw and where I will start
At the moment, I mostly draw on paper. I am also looking at online tutorials and thinking about what I want to draw and where to start, to make positive changes. I want to be able to draw vehicles, enviroments as well as characters in the future!

I will upload some anatomy sketches tomorrow!
Hello, everyone! Here is my contribution for today! I think I will keep on doing humans, enviroments and sometimes animals/creatures regulary.
I have to say, that I learned quite a lot about PS, for example that blending with the smush tool is not a good idea...

you are so kind thanks. check out Ctrlpaint.com so many resources, also do and read about blind contour drawings it will certainly help you get more confident lines.
Thanks for stopping bye my SB. My advice is the same as the guy above me. Check out Ctrlpaint.com .. Instead of using lots of strokes for one line, try giving one confident stroke, it is more pleasant too look at. Keep doing them studies!
I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly!
Hi all I checked the website out and there are really good tutorials, I will do some of them.
I will also work on my line qualitiy, thanks for the advice.
A value study of a banana:
I made a screenshot of a part from her face, so you can see my effort/trouble with the details : D

Drawing with pencil really helps improving. The feeling is quite different!

It took me quite long..to make that.. -but it was really fun!

lovely mate good start, the important thing at this period of your artistic journey is to keep up and keep up breaking through the bad phases that will inevitably occur. Next time that you will feel un-motivated just take a LITTLE break and push again. Ah and be sure that as long as you keep up you will becoming better and better, just at the beginning everything seems a little more difficult. Let me say it again , never give up unless there is a grave reason [at least if thats what you love].
Now lets see, definitely keep up the anatomy studies [doing anatomy helps you improve in several parts of the skill-tree silmutaneously]
Keep up the studies you are doing but dont worry that much about color. I would say focus on greyscale studies, you have to master values. Color without good value foundations cant stand that much. Keep improving on the fundamentals.
lets both keep up!!!
Thank you kingkostas,
you really motivated me
I will keep the anatomy studies up and do more in grayscale to pratice values.
I agree, we all have un-motivated periods or periods where things don't go as planned, but it's important that we dont give up.
I was gone a few days, but Iīm still drawing regulary, just not uploading regulary even when I want to
What I did...
mostly drawn with pencil:

Seems like some of my uploads got deleted because I cant see them in the attachment manager,.....15 or more pictures.
When I try to upload them again, I cant see them :|
Last edited by SeriousMalz; March 16th, 2013 at 11:59 AM.
I lost focus again. The problem is that whenever I try to draw anatomy or from some more detailed reference it takes really long and doesn't look how I wanted it..that frustrates a lot : |.
Instead of continuing, I stop.
I will never get good when I keep it like this. From now on I wont quit and really really study anatomy as well as draw a lot! I will make a lot of boring anatomy studys even when they dont look so good or when I want to do something different!
From now I will try to upload something every day..

Update for today!
Wow, I learned quite a lot today, especially in perspective.
I also practised values with the grayscale painting and from real life today. I think its quite funny that the fish looks like a pokemon or something like that, because of the horns, but these fishes really exists, it was from reference lol.

Two days in a row ^^, well update:
Your stuff already looks much better than when you started! Keep working on perspective as you've been in the last update.
-Thank you Cashmate
Didn't have so much time today but still did something!
The digital painting is really unfinished, just the ruff idea of a road above a deep jungle or something like that, without reference btw.
Some cool perspective studies will come soon and some character sketches which I wanna draw with my wacom !
#25(Days in a row counter): 3
Today I did some perspective studies and also sketches from posemanics. I was never really interested in cars because they were so hard to draw, but thanks to my new perspective knowledge it got a lot easier and was more fun even though they arent perfect yet.
Day Counter: 4
