This topic contains most of my little experiments, either preliminary concept sketches or stuff I do when I hit a snag on one my larger projects and/or want to explore a specific function/feature a bit more closely.
That and random thoughts.

Seems I found this old thing again:
I imagined the head/helmet behind the canopy to be a sort of control module/core that can be swapped out into multiple different bodies/armors.
Here's a shuttle I did to explore some of blenders material settings.
Why focusing only on "speedpaintings"?
Especially when you're starting out it helps soooo much to take your time and paint as long as you need to.
I know, nowadays you see on every corner some freaking good guy how makes an amazing painting in 2 hours, but the key is that he is able to do that because he already knows the fundamentals when it comes to drawing and painting.
After a while you get used to techniques that used to take you very long and you find shortcuts.
So it's basically just practicing.
Speed will come with time so don't hurry too much.

Quite honestly, I'm not so much speedpainting as I'm experimenting.
Try to find out how to get a certain feature to work, then move on to the next experiment.
(while I'm working on something a lot bigger in the meantime, but I'm going to keep that as a surprise for now ^_^)
Next experiments will involve a bit of animation (if I can get it to work properly)

This one has been taking me a lot longer than most stuff on this sketchbook so far.
Give or take five hours so far.
Now I'm in the process of trying to rig the thing.
Since you're doing a lot of mechas try to do some studies of metal surfaces, to see what they look like
What I'd appreciate a bit more would be some solid concrete tips on how to actually get those metal surfaces on my models in a time-effective manner.
Take for instance the act of building a closet.
You can study Pictures for days, draw all the plans you want, but if you don't know how to operate your saw, you're still stuck with a pile of boards.
Your latest 3D model reminds me of the old Transformers with the blocky aesthetics, and have to agree with you on what M. Calza said.

Alright, been experimenting around with textures some more.
Finally got an image on one of my simpler models.
Still going to need to do a lot more fooling around with blenders material settings before I get the hang of it...
Or do something I somewhat dislike doing... Read the f***ing manual.
Todays renders are of a mecha sized submachine gun type weapon I did both in accordance to my planning and as an experiment with materials and material textures.
Have I mentioned today that I dislike reading manuals?
Mesh for today:
A vehicle intended for combat on alien planets.
The wheel assemblies are pivoted allowing the design to lower its center of gravity for higher speed stability and maneuverability.
Another little blender experiment.
I've been trying to make the interceptors stand out a bit more, but I can't get it to work just right yet.
I have something else in store for today...
Still needs a bit of tinkering around, but results are looking quite promising.
