It's been quite a while since my last sketchbook and I figured it would be better to start a fresh one instead of necroing the old one.
C&C is appreciated!
EDIT. Moved pictures to the second post for easier thumbnail management.

Some Bridgman and photo studies.

Some Jeno Barcsay studies, few pigs from Terryl Whitlatch's book Animals Real and Imagined and few photo studies. I also tried to apply some muscles on 1min pixelovely sketches.
A quick photo study.
50min or so. I'm currently working on some characters for my bachelor's thesis. I'll be posting early concepts of them soon.
Maybe if I do these every night I learn something in the long run!
I'm working on my bachelor's thesis project, which is to create two 3D characters. I'm still in the design stage and here are the latest concepts for the creature which is going to be one of the two characters. C&C appreciated.
Studies studies. 50-75min
I saw Revidescent practice faces and heads like this in his sketchbook and I wanted to give it a shot. And with the imagination- column of this little practice everyone shall learn my dirty secret: I'm abysmally bad at sketching. It has always been my weak point and for years I've been avoiding it, thinking I could compensate with studies and theory. It hasn't really worked out. I dare to say that I know quite a lot of theory about drawing, painting and art in general and given several hours I can do something half decent in photoshop. But if you stick a pencil and sketchbook in my hand and tell me to draw you something, you will be disappointed. I've started to sketch a lot more this year and it has already had a pretty big positive impact on everything art related. I still don't sketch nearly enough (not even daily), but I have filled two sketchbooks with some crap this year, which is more than I have done in the past 5/6 years in total. I feel really uncomfortable and anxious about showing my sketches anywhere or to anyone. Be it online community or friends. There is such a huge contrast between my digital art and sketches that I guess I fear people's reactions to it or something.
Some faces from imagination. There are more than just these, but the rest are so terrible that I'm not going to bother posting them. These are crude enough.
Some character silhouettes. The character was originally supposed to be a female blacksmith but it is slowly evolving out of that description. I still want the character to be female so I need to work on that. I want the character to have visual aspects from both conquistadors and pre-Columbian cultures, but I'm really worried about the potential clusterfuck + I'm becoming blind to my work and overthinking everything.
Quick eye study.
You look like you are certainly improving your art skills with these studies. Keep it up. P.S. great colors and shapes in animal studies.

Still playing around with the character design here. I think these work better than the ones I posted yesterday when it comes to mixing mesoamerican cultures with conquistadors. I'm pretty happy with the creature design and I was just searching for a nice pose for the concept art.
I started working on the final concept art piece for the thesis monster.
Great start to your SB! Your creature designs are actually quite cool, good job!
I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly!
Thanks V3T & Spelledeg! Here's another photo study of a stuffed hare (at least I think it's stuffed, the picture didn't say but it looks pretty lifeless).
Creature update. I decided to go with the parrot color scheme because it felt more exotic. There's something that really bothers me with the creature though. I just can't put my finger on it. It might be the high saturation or just me becoming blind and bored of it. I also studied hands during the weekend. The fingers are so tricky in some particular poses.
Such awesome work! I love your studies. And that dragon is freaking awesome!! XD Love it. Unfortunately, I'm not an experienced enough artist to tell you what could be wrong with it. One thing I notice is that the closer-to-the-viewer hands seem smaller than the farther away hands. That should be opposite. Maybe also think about pushing the shadows in the scrunched up torso a little darker. Idk. Maybe that will help maybe not. I still think it's cool! =3
Oh my! Subscribing right now. Your eye for color is freaking magnificent. I love the studies, you have a really cool usage of line weight too. Love your style. Love you. Keep posting

Inspirational stuff! Keep em coming!
a wise man listens
wow u are a hardworker, man, also dont just draw hands, look up their construction, and keep practicing like this man!!
and your monsters are awesome, love their designs
i wunt moar!
Niquey Thanks! The legs further back were indeed too large. Shrinking them helped a bit.
the-muddy Thank you! I'm glad to hear that all the photo studies and squinting my eyes trying to figure out exactly what some less saturated color truly is hasn't gone to waste.
Gouda boy Will do!
Yuzero Thanks! I drew a lot of hands from imagination without looking at reference for a good reason: I'm terribad at sketching and doing stuff from imagination unless I have access to photoshop and get several hours to undo/erase and repaint stuff. I took turns between drawing hands from imagination and then copying them from Bridgman anatomy book in an attempt to really learn to draw the hands instead of just copying them. Despite the fact that many of the hands I drew from imagination are really clumsy and have several mistakes, I'm happy with the overall progress.
Since I am taking color reference from blue-and-yellow macaw for the creature I thought I'd do quick photo studies of them.
Lots of awesome studies there Arbinn!! Both anatomy and photo studies are great! Loving those dragon creature designs as well!!! Was also wondering if you'll get the chance to hop into cow 300 when it's up, be cool to see you contribute something!!
Thanks Rob! I'll participate in CoW once the new one comes up today. I've been waiting to get my hands on them.
Thanks shockowaffel! Here's an update for both characters. I'll work on the conquistador beastmaster/hunter/trapper gal more tomorrow and finish the creature later. I still want to address the border between the fur and belly area.
