I used to do a lot of nonsense music to go behind animations. You know, stuff that moved things along but didn't call attention to itself. I used a program called FruityLoops (now FL Studio), which was great fun to work with. It had really good-sounding synths and you could pour midi files into it.
Do you know how many free midi files are out there, just waiting to be re-imagined for timpani and nose flute?
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).
Well, I did try my hand at a variety of different instruments (acoustic guitar, bass, djembe, didgeridoo, ocarina), but I realized I didn't have a musical bone in my body.
Hey, at least now when I have guests over, they assume I'm talented simply because I have dusty instruments lying around everywhere
