Hey everyone! I'm still new to conceptart.org (kinda) but I'll give it a try! I'm a recent graduate of Laguna College of Art and Design majoring in Illustration and Animation. Since graduation, I've been looking for illustration/concept jobs and as I'm searching, to keep up with my practices I will do a 2 hour study everyday during the weekdays and will be posting them! So heres the first 3 of the week!
and if I'm doing anything wrong, please say so! i'm still new to the website/forum!

Hey buddy welcome. Nice start. Looks like you have a good grasp on the basics in photoshop so i am sure if you put in the right work you will improve quickly.
I guess one thing I could point out as its something i am pretty bad at at the mo is watch that you are rendering with the forms and planes. Looking at the horses legs for example on the upper part you have described it well as a cylindrical form but the lower darker portions look a bit flat due to the way you have made your brush strokes.Plus you have thrown in some odd highlights that look a bit distracting espc on the back leg, so it does not read so well, but overall its a really nice job and your colours are pretty strong too. The sun set study is awesome the way you have rendered the sky and the use of colour and value transitions is very very good. Think you could put some strong environments together, so be good to see more landscape studies. i guess just work from life as much as possible too so you can really study forms and values ect as photos can wash colours out and that darks can be too dark. For example those hills in the foreground are pure black and would not appear totally black to the human eye. But i knows thats just because thats what your photo ref shows so throw in life studies just to mix if your not doing that already. But like i said its a strong start and welcome again and keep it up.
Hey ja1207 thanks! I totally get what you mean!! I'm going try and paint from life possibly next week as I get some free time to! But I totally understand what you're saying! it's nice to get reminders about the fundamentals! I stress that too all of my buddies too! but sometimes you forget yourself haha. Now back to work! and thanks again for the crit! I really appreciate it!
Soo.. I think this is how you keep adding to your post? I'm not entirely sure? But if it isn't please tell me! I want to understand the powers of the forums!
Here's a study of a landscape, I took the photo at Mt.Blady when my friend's and I reached the top of the mountain/hill!
Hey man nice studies and nice updates, maybe the fruit should be casting some sort of shadow on the bowl. Also I guess just watch your edges too what I mean is try and define them really at the mo they are bleeding a bit but I am sure thats something that will just improve as you get better and better at using photoshop. But again nice updates..that landscape makes me so jealous being stuck around buildings and traffic al day i need to get out into the country.
Phew wow, your color works is fantastic! No critique that isn't what *ja1307 has already said -besides maybe that a bit more light tones on the woman would help make her stand out more from the bg? Otherwise it's amazing though
@ja1307, oh yeah! I hear ya brotha! thanks man! will be looking out for that! yeah, i've been trying to catch my edges but I just tend not to get to them by the time limit! Thanks for the feedback! Great to hear from you again
haha! oh man! we can trade for a bit then! I want to be around some nice tall buildings for a change! haha
@Heyriel, Thank you! and yeah! I hear ya! I wasn't able to get to the background before my time limit! even though i should work on the background first.... haha! Thanks!!
I always forget to post here! Sorry guys! but heres my recent studies from the days I forgot to post here!
