The design for the Monarch of Duality is taken from chess pieces, mainly the white king and the black queen.Smiling sweetly, the Evil Queen reached her hand toward the defeated Good King. Offering him her hand in marriage, for the unity of their kingdoms. The Good King had just lost his queen in this very battle, slayed by the Evil Queen. His army of white soldiers were annihilated by the black legions that followed the wicked queen.
He had no other choice.
Both signifies the opposite forces they are, Good vs Evil, Offense vs Defense.
The color red often signifies war, the evil forces. Often paired with black for the sinister effect. In here, the color proudly worn by the Evil Queen. Her sharp spiky armor is sure to at least leave a scratch if you bump against her, supporting her preferred action to go with all out attack. And she's known to be particularly ruthless with her morningstar.
The color green, the complimentary of red, often associated with peace, the good people. Often paired with white to create the feeling of safety. In here, it's the color worn by the unfortunate Good King. His armor design is based on rounded forms and tortoise shell design to signify his preference to stay in defense. His trusty shield had protected him through many battles, but maybe not this one..

Monarch of duality
I learned a lot working on this, thankyou
Monarch of Duality : The Two Faces
I started with the concept of a monarch (or, a monarchy) that has two functional 'faces'. A front one, which is public, adored-loathed, and gleams under the limelight; then a back one, which is hidden, unseen and silently moving forces.
Neither is more evil, neither is more --morally speaking-- good, both equally lie. Each is simply 'necessary'. The front face is all about image, a painted skin and smile, a beacon to guide, with a plume that serves as its own backdrop that catches the light. The back face is contained, protected inside a ribcagelike-'fence', a shadow that wears role-mask and cocooned within himself; he absorbs into himself.
Inspiration for the design was taken mostly from Chinese opera for the painted faces and swirling fabrics, while chunkier jewelry provides accents. The front face queen has the burst of a Lionfish (a poisonous, attractive fish), while the back face king has the chitinous structure of a Spider Crab (that carries the aspects of a weaving, trapping spider and an armored crab). Color scheme is straightforward: white and metals reflect light best, while dark, nearly black colors and burnished surface escape from sight.
Both faces rule in their own right as equals, as two sides of the same mirror.

Awesome work everyone!
Final - Monarch of Death and Monarch of life
OKay.... I'm posting... I *know* it's over the deadline, but I'm hoping for some awesome Chow Mod mercy *puppy dog eyes*
Monarch of Duality! Ice and fire, angels and demons, peace and war, any and all of those things in an image of the things I love painting most! Been awesome fun, albeit not as polished as perhaps I'd like.
Not a lot of entries, though very high quality stuff everyone!!!
I voted for Zephyri, Dranyer and Schwager
@Schwager...your entry is so cool, i think you deserve more votes! Maybe the reason for that is that your concept is a little too much outside of the box, i don't know. Anyhow, i love the composition and style ...and the contrast of humor with suffering. An unique aproach, i really enjoyed your concept/illustration.
@elephant's stroke: Thank you so much for your kind comments... really made my day
Personally I think that my style has a lot to do with it. It's just not everyone's cup of tea, I guess.
Really glad to hear that you like it so much, though.
