ill_buny- not at all, pretty interesting stuff especially now since I'm mainly using needle point pens thanks!
Morning studies, hair studies and Loomis, I tried to expand on the loomis stuff not just copy what I saw but really think about all I've learnt beforehand and how it connects with Loomis' teachings if that makes sense.
Also did some life drawing for the first time in AGES! Was good fun but all I had was an a5 sketchbook (all my stuffs in boxes from moving house including all my bigger sketchbooks), gonna go the easel route next time. (also gotta really work on my values next time, was hard when drawing small so didnt really push them)
All in all I think today has been the most productive day I've had yet so pretty happy
Next time I'll push to do more!
Nice sketchbook! I love how you really focus on making sure you’re drawing from imagination Keep up the anatomy studies, they’ll soon show show through in your work! I’m looking forward to seeing your progress
CommandoFilis- Thanks. Aye I'll make sure I do next time! This was about 30 mins then a long break and another 20 minutes, I'm not used to just drawing one pose but that's how it is at that place. People work on just one painting or drawing instead of doing multiple poses. I guess ill just have to adapt and move around the room. Any more tips on life drawing would be greatly appreciated as I was struggling at first and I wanna make the most of it next week.
SophieW- Cheers I guess im trying to draw more from imagination just to iron out all the kinks and see which areas im weaker at then find some ref to practice those areas.
Not much time to do any focused studies, just some fun doodles, Pilot V5 pen.
I promise I'll be adding some more colour to this sketchbook soon!
Hey Tofa, thanks for dopping by my sketchbook. When designing your characters, keep in mind the value of contrasting curves vs straights, it adds contrast and keeps the design interesting by adding rhythm. Anyway I dont usually like doing this because there are a hundred better examples online, and Ive seen them but I just cant seem to find one at the moment, but here is an example of what I mean using my own character.
Actually i see you're doing in much better in that last post....just keep trying it not just with characters but anything you draw, experiment and have fun
For life drawing, the best advice I can give is to take your time when drawing and observe the model. I see others (even myself) rushing through the drawing for no apparent reason rather than breathing and taking my time).
If you're not too used to longer poses (like 30min to an hour), finish the drawing as much as you can then walk around the model. Basically making a 360 of the model, it helps with understanding more about the model in space. Don't do that in all the time, 3hour+ poses are helpful. I find 5min-10min sessions helps before jumping dry into a long pose. OH and drink coffee before the sessions .
This is just how I think, it might change later on or just plain conflict with other people's thoughts. So take my advice if you want or cherry pick what you feel is important.
Sprogis7 - Hey Sprogis thanks a lot for the tip, your example explains it really well, I tried to draw the bottom left woman with that in mind definitely gonna be pushing it in all my drawings, if there's something I suffer from is boring poses.
CommandoFilis - Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it, will keep it in mind for this weeks session. Coffee is a very good idea, I always lose energy near the end of life drawing, that mental drain
I feel bad for not drawing more, having to look for jobs is taking priority right now. pld:
Here's summore sketches and the bottom left drawing was something I spent a bit more time on than my usual sketches, pretty happy with it. Tried to keep it loose and also try and contrast straight and curved lines, it's a different take on the same character in my last post
It's been a while! Fell into a major drawing rut thanks to being preoccupied with job hunting (still ongoing). Managed to crawl out this morning and atleast upload something.
That said it's not much just scraps of doodles and life drawing from 2 weeks ago.
For the life drawing I went bigger and drew on an easel standing up which was pretty uncomfortable and incredibly hard! But I had fun and tried my best. 1st one is a warm up with pencil which just wasnt working out second one was done with charcoal pencil and was a lot less painful. At tomorrows session I'll do the same but start off with charcoal and try to draw bigger (these ones are slightly less than A3)
That year later reply doe, thanks guys.
super giant sizes woah
Some sketches, my scanner is awful and my sketchbook is also too large for it, will scan the rest at work ^^
