Hi guys, alot of crits needed for this boogeyman concept, about design, color, value, finishing touches, etc
Thanks alot in advance!
Hmm, I guess no-one has critiqued you yet because this looks awesome! I particularly like the little faces on the bottom, makes me think that he is the reaper or something. I'm sorry I'm not good enough yet to give you an actual critique, haha. Good luck
..But now that I look at it there's something with the lighting that isn't right. It's a very hard spot light on his body, but very little light on his head so it doesn't seem right with the harsh shadow on the wall behind his head.
I agree. It is a cool concept that was executed well.
I do have issues with the piece being so bright, however. The wall looks illuminated as if the figure was hit by a spotlight, but that would make his shadow much, much darker. The 'smoke' should probably be darker as well. I have the feeling that you're trying to convey the fact that there's darkness oozing out of him or something, but right now, it seem more to me like gray smoke that isn't nearly as intimidating and total as it should probably be.
Oh, and two more things - right now, that hand is groping his crotch. You can of course go with that, but I must say it does look kinda strange right now. Secondly, there are some darker values around his shoulders that make the smoke look like a cape. Strengthen the contrast between the black of the cape and the greys of the body to distinguish this, or make the colors more similar to erase the effect.
If I were to be picky, and I am going to! I would probably say the overall pose is a bit, dull. I would like seeing more of this guy in more haunting poses, more creepy angles, he has SO much potential and at the moment you've limited him to a standing side ways pose. I know from your ability you can do more than that!
Anyway, keep it up!
thanks alot guys, i posted a more finished version on my blog and sites etc, thanks again!
Overall the piece is great, however I have a little bit of a problem with the cast shadows on the wall of those soft tails coming out of his head and back. The edges of, what I'm assuming is cloth, are very soft, yet the edges of the cast shadow are firm.
